Cd (cadmium) is a highly toxic heavy metal pollutant often present in soil and detrimentally impacting the production and quality of horticultural crops. Cd affects various physiological and biochemical processes in plants, including chlorophyll synthesis, photosynthesis, mineral uptake and accumulation, and hormonal imbalance, leading to cell death. The MYB family of transcription factors plays a significant role in plant response to environmental influences.

Plant growth and development are correlated with many aspects, including phytohormones, which have specific functions. However, the mechanism underlying the process has not been well elucidated. Gibberellins (GAs) play fundamental roles in almost every aspect of plant growth and development, including cell elongation, leaf expansion, leaf senescence, seed germination, and leafy head formation.

Chinese cabbage tipburn is characterized by the formation of necrotic lesions on the margin of leaves, including on the insides of the leafy head. This physiological disorder is associated with a localized calcium deficiency during leaf development. However, little information is available regarding the molecular mechanisms governing Ca-deficiency-triggered tipburn.

The S1fa transcription factor is part of a small family involved in plant growth and development and abiotic stress tolerance. However, the roles of the S1fa genes in abiotic stress tolerance in Chinese cabbage are still unclear. In this study, four S1fa genes in the Chinese cabbage genome were identified and characterized for abiotic stress tolerance.

Members of the SUPPRESSOR OF PHYA-105 (SPA) protein family (SPA1-SPA4) form E3 ubiquitin ligase complexes with CONSTITUTIVE PHOTOMORPHOGENIC1 (COP1), which mediates the degradation of photomorphogenesis-promoting factors to desensitize light signaling. SPA2 has been reported to promote seedling etiolation in the dark.

In order to understand the effects of low nitrogen (LN) stress on the growth and development in different genotypes of Chinese cabbage, the L40 genotype with high nitrogen utilization and the L14 genotype with LN utilization were selected as experimental materials. Field experiments and indoor hydroponic methods were used to study the different responses of two Chinese cabbage genotypes to low nitrogen levels. In this study, we also analyzed the genome-wide gene expression profiles of L40 and L14 in response to LN stress by high-throughput RNA sequencing technology.

This study evaluated the genotyping by sequencing (GBS) protocol for fingerprinting , and the data derived were more reliable than the re-sequencing data of . Of the 10 enzyme solutions used to analyze the numbers of genotypes and single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in , five solutions showed better results, namely, A (III, 450-500 bp), E (I+III, 500-550 bp), F (I+III, 500-600 bp), G (I+III, 'All' fragment), and J (I+V-HF, 'All' fragment). The five enzyme solutions showed less than 40% similarity in different individuals from various samples, and 90% similarity between two individuals from one sample.

The use of male sterile lines is one of the ideal means in hybrid seed production. Despite the widespread application of Ogura cytoplasmic male sterile (CMS) lines, the molecular mechanisms remain largely unknown. In this study, histological analyses of floral buds from a CMS line 40MA and its corresponding maintainer line 40MB were conducted, which indicate that microspore abortion was initiated shortly after the tetrad stage.

Powdery mildew is the main disease affecting cucumber cultivation and causes severe economic loss. So far, research on cucumber resistance to powdery mildew has not yielded feasible solutions. This study selected two inbred cucumber lines, XY09-118 (resistant) and Q10 (susceptible) and investigated their responses to powdery mildew infection (harvested 24 and 48 h after inoculation) using RNA sequencing.

Downy mildew caused by () leads to up to 90% of the crop yield loss in Chinese cabbage in China. A transcriptome analysis was carried out between a resistant line (13-13, R) and a susceptible line (15-14, S) of Chinese cabbage in response to . The NOISeq method was used to find differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between these two groups and GO and KEGG were carried out to find R genes related to downy mildew response of Chinese cabbage.

Mitochondrial pyruvate carrier (MPC), which transports pyruvate into mitochondria, is a key regulatory element in the material metabolism and energy metabolism. Since MPC was firstly identified in yeast in 2012, many groups have investigated the function of MPC. As MPC is a classic material transporter, the focus of previous studies has been placed on its role in pyruvate transport.

Background: Light is the main source of energy and, as such, is one of the most important environmental factors for plant growth, morphogenesis, and other physiological responses. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are endogenous non-coding RNAs that contain 21-24 nucleotides (nt) and play important roles in plant growth and development as well as stress responses. However, the role of miRNAs in the light response is less studied.

Salt stress is one of the abiotic stresses affecting crop growth and yield. The functional screening and mechanism investigation of the genes in response to salt stress are essential for the development of salt-tolerant crops. Here, we found that OXIDATIVE STRESS 2 (OXS2) was a salinity-induced gene, and the mutant oxs2-1 was hypersensitive to salt stress during seed germination and root elongation processes.

High-throughput small RNA sequencing and degradome analysis were used in this study to thoroughly investigate the role of miRNA-mediated regulatory network in tuberous root development of radish. Samples from the early seedling stage (RE) and the cortex splitting stage (RL) were used for the construction of six small RNA libraries and one degradome library. A total of 518 known and 976 novel miRNAs were identified, of which, 338 known and 18 novel miRNAs were expressed in all six libraries, respectively.
