Vanillic Acid (VA) is an aromatic acid extracted from traditional Chinese medicine such as Angelica sinensis and Panax ginseng, which has demonstrated potent anti-cancer activity, inhibiting the onset and progression of various malignant tumors. This review highlights the principal mechanism by which VA exerts its anticancer activity, including apoptosis induction, specifically promoting the generation of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS), which in turn triggers mitochondrial apoptosis. Furthermore, VA disrupts the cancer cell cycle, arresting most cancer cells at the G1 phase, curtails cell migration, invasion, angiogenesis, and potentiates the therapeutic efficacy of chemotherapeutic drugs, all while minimizing adverse reactions.

The two-dimensional (2D) "sandwich" structure composed of a cation plane located between two anion planes, such as anion-rich CrI, VS, VSe, and MnSe, possesses exotic magnetic and electronic structural properties and is expected to be a typical base for next-generation microelectronic, magnetic, and spintronic devices. However, only a few 2D anion-rich "sandwich" materials have been experimentally discovered and fabricated, as they are vastly limited by their conventional stoichiometric ratios and structural stability under ambient conditions. Here, we report a 2D anion-rich NaCl crystal with sandwiched structure confined within graphene oxide membranes with positive surface potential.

To compare the efficacy and safety of pegylated recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (PEG-rhG-CSF) and rhG-CSF in the recovery of neutrophils after induction therapy in ALL patients, PEG-rhG-CSF was injected subcutaneously within 24 ~ 48 h after the end of intravenous infusion of daunorubicin/idarubicin during induction chemotherapy. In rhG-CSF group, patients were given rhG-CSF. The main outcome indexes were the incidence and duration of grade 4 chemotherapy-induced-neutropenia (CIN, ANC less than 0.

Background: The increasing prevalence of myopia among Chinese children and adolescents, especially at younger ages, has emerged as a significant concern in recent years. Pre-myopia is a key period for myopia prevention and control in children and adolescents. Previous studies suggested auricular acupressure (AA) therapy might offer a viable approach to prevent and slow down myopia progression.

Background: Preeclampsia (PE) is a severe pregnancy complication characterized by hypertension and proteinuria. PE poses a substantial threat to the health of both mothers and fetuses, and currently, there is no definitive treatment available. Recent studies have indicated that the transcription factor GATA1 may be implicated in the pathological processes of PE, but the underlying mechanism remains elusive.

In van der Waals (vdW) architectures of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), the coupling between interlayer exciton and quantum degrees of freedom opens unprecedented opportunities for excitonic physics. Taking the MoSe homobilayer as representative, we identify that the interlayer registry defines the nature and dynamics of the lowest-energy interlayer exciton. The large layer polarization () is proved, which ensures the formation of layer-resolved interlayer excitons.

Mercury (Hg) is a global pollutant with substantial risks to human and ecosystem health. By upward transport in tropical regions, mercury enters into the stratosphere, but the contribution of the stratosphere to global mercury dispersion and deposition remains unknown. We find that between 5 and 50% (passing through the 400-kelvin isentropic surface and tropopause, respectively) of the mercury mass deposited on Earth's surface is chemically processed in the lower stratosphere.

Fluid displacement within layered porous media is more complex than in nonlayered ones. Most of the previous studies placed a focus on the porous media with layerings perpendicular to the flow direction, and the effects of pore topology were often ignored. Therefore, this study aims to reveal the flow physics in porous media with layering parallel to the flow direction by accounting for the specific pore topology.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a major cause of chronic liver disease. Although interferon-free direct-acting antivirals have led to significant advancements in the treatment of HCV infection, the high genetic variability of the virus and the emergence of acquired drug resistance pose potential threats to their effectiveness. In this study, we develop a broad-spectrum aptamer-based proteolysis targeting chimera, designated dNS5B, which effectively degrades both pan-genotypic NS5B polymerase and drug-resistant mutants through ubiquitin proteasome system.

Feature selection (FS) is a key process in many pattern-recognition tasks, which reduces dimensionality by eliminating redundant or irrelevant features. However, for complex high-dimensional issues, traditional FS methods cannot find the ideal feature combination. To overcome this disadvantage, this paper presents a multispiral whale optimization algorithm (MSWOA) for feature selection.

The development of dynamic covalent materials with repairability, reprocessability, and recyclability is crucial for sustainable development. In this work, we report a new strategy to adjust the thermomechanical properties of boronic ester cross-linked poly(β-hydroxyl amine)s through side-group engineering. By tuning the side groups of the poly(β-hydroxyl amine)s, we have developed self-healable, reprocessable, and shape-programmable materials.

Soil contamination with heavy metals is a significant environmental issue that adversely affects plant growth and agricultural productivity. Biochar and microbial inoculants have emerged as a promising approach to solving this problem, and previous studies have focused more on the remediation effects of single types of materials on heavy metal soil pollution. This study examined the impact of both standalone and combined applications of distiller's grains biochar, thallus, and the bacterial supernatant on the availability of cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), and zinc (Zn) in soil, its physicochemical features, and its enzyme activities; this study also examined the growth, physiological and biochemical characteristics, and heavy metal accumulation of Sorghum-sudangrass.
