Photocatalytic nitrogen (N) fixation over semiconductors has always suffered from poor conversion efficiency owing to weak N adsorption and the difficulty of N≡N triple bond dissociation. Herein, a Co single-atom catalyst (SAC) model with a C-defect-evoked CoP distorted configuration was fabricated using a selective phosphidation strategy, wherein P-doping and C defects co-regulate the local electronic structure of Co sites. Comprehensive experiments and theoretical calculations revealed that the distorted CoP configuration caused a strong charge redistribution between the Co atoms and adjacent C atoms, minimizing their electronegativity difference.

In today's social environment, the objective reality of people's increasing life pressure, environmental deterioration, and enhanced ultraviolet rays caused by the destruction of the ozone layer has led to the aggravation of people's oxidative stress. Therefore, exogenous antioxidant peptides have become a hot topic in research. In the context of insufficient protein supply and resource recycling, almond meal was used as raw material in this study.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Liver fibrosis is a generic fibrous scarring event resulting from accumulation of extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins, easily progressing to end-stage liver diseases. Tao-Hong-Si-Wu-Tang (THSWT) is a traditional Chinese medicine formula applied in clinics to treat gynecological and chronic liver diseases. However, the role of THSWT on thioacetamide (TAA)-induced hepatic fibrosis and the specific mechanisms remains unclear.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is characterized by fibrotic matrix deposition and irreversible aberrant tissue remodeling. Their mechanisms of action are associated with the activation of macrophages and a disturbed immune environment. We aim to determine how these activated macrophages influenced the pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis.

FBXO28 is a member of F-box proteins that are the substrate receptors of SCF (SKP1, CULLIN1, F-box protein) ubiquitin ligase complexes. Despite the implications of its role in cancer, the function of FBXO28 in epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process and metastasis for cancer remains largely unknown. Here, we report that FBXO28 is a critical negative regulator of migration, invasion and metastasis in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in vitro and in vivo.

Background: Research on Jinshuibao (JSB) for chronic renal failure (CRF) is limited, its clinical efficacy on CRF has not been evaluated. Our aim is to systematically evaluate the efficacy of JSB for the treatment of CRF in Chinese patients, and to provide evidence-based medical advice for clinical practice.
Methods: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) which compared JSB combined with conventional treatment (CT) with CT alone in CRF were searched in 8 databases including PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Web of science, China Biology Medicine disc, Wanfang, Chinese Scientific Journal Database (VIP) and China National Knowledge Infrastructure form inception to March 31, 2023.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is widely believed to be a leading risk factor of colorectal cancer. Gut microbiota is a known vital player in the progression of UC. Si-Ni-San (SNS) has been considered to effectively treat colitis in clinical practice during thousands of years, yet whether SNS ameliorated acute colitis mouse model by modulating intestinal flora has not been distinctly elucidated.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Hyperlipidemia is the systemic manifestation of abnormal lipid metabolism, characterized by elevated circulating levels of cholesterol and triglyceride and a high risk of cardiovascular events. Radix Bupleuri (RB) is a traditional Chinese herbal product used to treat liver diseases. Our previous study demonstrated that Saikosaponins (SSs), the most potent bioactive ingredients in RB, ameliorate hepatic steatosis.

Background: This prospective, multi-center, intensive monitoring study aimed to systematically assess the occurrence of adverse events (AEs) and adverse drug reactions (ADRs), especially thrombocytopenia and bleeding, as well as their risk factors in Chinese ST-segment elevation myocardial infraction (STEMI) patients receiving bivalirudin as anticoagulant for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
Methods: In total, 1244 STEMI patients undergoing PCI and receiving bivalirudin as anticoagulant were enrolled in the present study. Safety data were collected from hospital admission to 72 h after bivalirudin administration; in addition, patients were further followed up at the 30th day with safety data collected at that time.

Background: Metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is a progressive chronic liver disease, yet there is still a lack of effective pharmacological therapies at present. Saikosaponin D (SSd) has been reported to exhibit hepatoprotective and anti-steatosis activities in our previous research.
Purpose: The current study aims to further investigate the underlying mechanisms of SSd on MAFLD from the perspectives of the crosstalk between fatty acid (FA) biosynthesis and catabolism to provide strong support for further clinical management of MAFLD.

The Xu's Medical Family, from the Northern and Southern Dynasties, was called an official family with medical background by Fan Xingzhun. Its genealogy was traced back to the end of the Sui Dynasty and the beginning of the Tang Dynasty. Based on the local chronicles, epitaphs, history books and relevant medical historical artifacts, this paper explores the development of the Xu's Medical Family in the Yuan and the Ming Dynasties.

We report a crystallization-induced emission fluorophore to quantitatively interrogate the polarity of aggregated proteins. This solvatochromic probe, namely "AggRetina" probe, inherently binds to aggregated proteins and exhibits both a polarity-dependent fluorescence emission wavelength shift and a viscosity-dependent fluorescence intensity increase. Regulation of its polarity sensitivity was achieved by extending the conjugation length.

There might be a thick "protrusion" in the visceral surface of hepatic quadrate lobe during the laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC), which affects the surgical fields and consequently triggers high risks of biliary tract injury. Although n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate (NBCA) glue has been applied to laparoscopic upper abdominal surgery for liver retraction, there is still no consensus on its safety and feasibility in LC. In this study, we investigated the safety, feasibility, and effectiveness of liver retraction using NBCA glue for these patients which have the thick "protrusion" on the square leaf surface of the liver during LC.

Unlike amyloid aggregates, amorphous protein aggregates with no defined structures have been challenging to target and detect in a complex cellular milieu. In this study, we rationally designed sensors of amorphous protein aggregation from aggregation-induced-emission probes (AIEgens). Utilizing dicyanoisophorone as a model AIEgen scaffold, we first sensitized the fluorescence of AIEgens to a nonpolar and viscous environment mimicking the interior of amorphous aggregated proteins.

Background: Ovarian cancer has the highest mortality rate among gynecologic cancers, and most patients are diagnosed in advanced stages. Enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2) is a major tumor marker and an effective therapeutic target for ovarian cancer, but the underlying molecular mechanism remains unclear. The present study investigated the biological effects of EZH2 knockout in SKOV3 cells and and explored the molecular mechanism by integrated analysis of messenger RNA sequencing (mRNA-seq) and chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing (ChIP-seq) data.
