Purpose: To evaluate the intra/inter-rater and diagnostic reliability of the sagittal plane adjusted patellar instability ratios (PIRs) compared to tibial tubercle-trochlear groove (TT-TG) distance alone while employing a matched case-control analysis for age and sex to minimize a potential confounding effect.

Methods: A retrospective case-control study was performed of all knee MRI studies of patients diagnosed with patellar instability, between 2005 and 2020 at a regional tertiary medical centre. Using a 1:1 case-control matching of sex and age at the time of the diagnosis, one control subject was assigned to each case of patellar instability.

Aim: The emergency department (ED) is the first port-of-call for most patients receiving hospital care and as such acts as a gatekeeper to the wards, directing patient flow through the hospital. ED overcrowding is a well-researched field and negatively affects patient outcome, staff well-being and hospital reputation. An accurate, real-time model capable of predicting ED overcrowding has obvious merit in a world becoming increasingly computational, although the complicated dynamics of the department have hindered international efforts to design such a model.

Approximately 40% of young-onset multiple sclerosis (MS) patients experience breakthrough disease, which carries a high risk for long-term disability, and requires using therapies beyond traditional first-line agents. Despite the increasing use of newer disease-modifying treatments (DMTs) in this population, data are not available to guide the need for escalating DMTs and there is a scarcity of data on the effects of natalizumab in children and young adults with active disease. We performed a retrospective analysis of the rate of No Evidence of Disease Activity (NEDA), tolerability, and safety of natalizumab in a multi-center cohort of 36 children and young adults with highly active MS.

Explainable multimodal machine learning model for classifying pregnancy drug safety.

Bioinformatics

January 2022

Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology Unit, Drug Consultation Center, Shamir Medical Center (Assaf Harofeh), Zerifin, Affiliated to Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel-Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel.

Motivation: Teratogenic drugs can cause severe fetal malformation and therefore have critical impact on the health of the fetus, yet the teratogenic risks are unknown for most approved drugs. This article proposes an explainable machine learning model for classifying pregnancy drug safety based on multimodal data and suggests an orthogonal ensemble for modeling multimodal data. To train the proposed model, we created a set of labeled drugs by processing over 100 000 textual responses collected by a large teratology information service.
