Achieving an effective biocompatible system for siRNAs delivery to the tumor site remains a significant challenge. Selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) modified by chitosan (CS) and hyaluronic acid (HA) were fabricated for siRNAs () delivery to the bladder cancer cells. The HA-CS-SeNP@siPLK1 efficacy was evaluated using and models.

Background: Coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) is a widespread disease all over the world that has caused many psychological complications such as health anxiety (HA) and low quality of life (QOL). Mindfulness-based approaches could improve these complications. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effect of Internet-delivered mindfulness stress reduction combined with acceptance and commitment therapy (IMSR-ACT) on QOL and HA of caregivers of patients infected by COVID-19.

Purpose: Labour market integration is a widely accepted strategy for promoting the social and economic inclusion of persons with disabilities. But what kinds of jobs do persons with disabilities obtain following their integration into the labour market? In this study, we use a novel survey of workers to describe and compare the employment quality of persons with and without disabilities in Canada.

Methods: We administered an online, cross-sectional survey to a heterogeneous sample of workers in Canada (n = 2,794).

Impairments of blood flow and autoregulation have been implicated in diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma. Thus, identifying biomarkers of retinal vascular compliance and regulatory capacity is of potential value for understanding the pathophysiology and evaluating onset or progression of disease. Pulse wave velocity (PWV) represents the speed of the pulse-propagated pressure wave within blood vessels and has shown promise as a marker of vascular compliance.

Background: People with epilepsy (PWE) and people with intellectual disabilities (ID) both live shorter lives than the general population and both conditions increase the risk of death further. We aimed to measure associations between certain risk factors for death in PWE and ID.

Methods: A retrospective case-control study was conducted in ten regions in England and Wales.

The lack of cost-effective methods for producing antimicrobial peptides has made it impossible to use their high potential as a new and powerful class of antimicrobial agents. In recent years, extensive research has been conducted to decrease the cost of recombinant proteins production through microorganisms, transgenic animals, and plants. Well-known genetic and physiological characteristics, short-term proliferation, and ease of manipulation make E.

Summary: 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) lyase deficiency is an inborn error of metabolism resulting in a lack of ketogenesis and leucine catabolism. Hallmarks of decompensation include hypoglycemia without ketosis (or hypoketosis), metabolic acidosis, and hyperammonemia. Management includes avoiding fasting and restricting dietary protein and fat.

This study investigates the effect of different mixtures of gums [xanthan (Xa), konjac mannan (KM), gellan, and locust bean gum (LBG)] on the physical, rheological (steady and unsteady), and textural properties of sliceable ketchup. Each gum had an individually significant effect ( < 0.05) on viscosity; however, the addition of Xa in combination with other gums had a greater effect on viscosity.

Ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury is a tissue damage during reperfusion after an ischemic condition. I/R injury is induced by pathological cases including stroke, myocardial infarction, circulatory arrest, sickle cell disease, acute kidney injury, trauma, and sleep apnea. It can lead to increased morbidity and mortality in the context of these processes.

Salivary levels of disease-related biomarkers in the early stages of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease: .

IBRO Neurosci Rep

June 2023

Research center of pediatric infectious diseases, institute of immunology and infectious diseases, Rasool ‎Akram Hospital, Iran University of Medical Sciences (IUMS), Tehran, Iran.

Introduction: Finding a non-invasive and repeatable tool has been recommended to make an accurate diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD).

Methods: 70 volunteers participated in three groups: 24 with mild dementia of AD, 24 in the first and second stages of PD, and 22 healthy controls. After valuing the scores of cognitive tests, the salivary levels of phosphorylated tau (p-tau), total alpha-synuclein (α-syn), and beta-amyloid 1-42 (Aβ)‏‎ proteins have been evaluated.

The accumulated oxygen deficit as an indicator of the ischemic retinal insult.

Exp Eye Res

May 2023

Department of Ophthalmology, University of Southern California, 1450 San Pablo St, Suite 4700, Los Angeles, CA 9003, USA. Electronic address:

We here attempt to improve quantification of the ischemic retinal insult, that is, what is imposed on the retinal tissue by ischemia, especially in experimental models of ischemia. The ischemic retinal insult initiates the ischemic retinal injury (or outcome). Accordingly, it is reasonable to assume that the better the quantification of the insult, the better the correlation with, and thereby estimation of, the injury.

A systematic review of sarcopenia prevalence and associated factors in people living with human immunodeficiency virus.

J Cachexia Sarcopenia Muscle

June 2023

Physical Activity, Lifestyle, Ageing and Wellbeing Faculty Research Group, School of Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

People living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) (PLWH) appear to be at an increased risk of sarcopenia, which can have a devastating effect on their life due to consequences such as physical disability, poor quality of life, and finally death. This systematic review examined sarcopenia prevalence and its associated factors in PLWH. A systematic search was conducted using the keywords in the online databases including Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, Embase and Cochrane databases from the dates of inception up to May 2022.

Molecular modifications have been practiced for more than a century and nowadays they are widely applied in food, pharmaceutical, or other industries to manipulate the physicochemical, bioactivity, metabolic/catabolic, and pharmacokinetic properties. Among various structural modifications, the esterification/-acylation has been well-established in altering lipophilicity and bioactivity of parent bioactive compounds, especially natural polyphenolics, while maintaining their high biocompatibility. Meanwhile, various classic chemical and enzymatic protocols and other recently emerged cell factory technology are being employed as viable esterification strategies.

Hydrogen peroxide (HO) production in microbial electrochemical systems (MESs) is an attractive option for enabling a circular economy in the water/wastewater sector. Here, a machine learning algorithm was developed, using a meta-learning approach, to predict the HO production rates in MES based on the seven input variables, including various design and operating parameters. The developed models were trained and cross-validated using the experimental data collected from 25 published reports.
