Article Synopsis
  • - Cancer involves the uncontrolled growth of cells, influenced by various molecular factors, particularly abnormalities in the death-associated kinase (DAPK) protein family, including DAPK2.
  • - DAPK2 functions as a tumor suppressor, promoting cell death through apoptosis and autophagy by interacting with proteins like TNF and IFN and signaling pathways such as AMPK, mTORC1, and p73.
  • - Due to its significant role in cell regulation and the promotion of cancer cell death, DAPK2 is a promising target for cancer treatments, particularly for types like gastric, ovarian, and breast cancer.

There have been very rare reports on the migration of foreign bodies that are left or implanted in the body, and so far, they have only been reported in the gastrointestinal tract and intestines (a process similar to phagocytosis), later manifesting as an obstruction in the lumen. Meanwhile, no such cases have yet been reported in the cardiovascular system. The case reported here is a 14-month-old girl who had undergone pulmonary artery banding (PA band made of PTFE) around the pulmonary artery at the age of 8 months due to severe pulmonary hypertension and failure to thrive.

Purpose: Fascioliasis is a common parasitic disease in humans and herbivores which is caused by Fasciola hepatica and Fasciola gigantica and has a worldwide distribution. Serological tests such as the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) technique play a prominent role in the fast diagnosis of the disease. However, there are diagnostic limitations, including cross-reactivity with other worms, which decline the specificity of the results.

Background: There are two main causes of exudative effusion including malignancy-induced effusion and tuberculosis. Considering that in reactive ejections, such as tuberculosis-induced effusion, the role of B lymphocytes and in the malignant effusion, the role of T lymphocytes are more important, in this study we analyzed the frequency of CD4, CD8, CD19, CD56-16, CD64, QuantiFERON in the pleural and serum samples of patients with exudative lymphocytic-dominant effusion.

Methods: In total, 73 patients were enrolled in the study by exudative lymphocyte effusion, and finally, 63 patients had definite diagnoses.

Several factors are necessary for the growth and survival of healthy follicles in the folliculogenesis process, including endocrine and paracrine glands, and a regulated ratio of granulosa cells to oocytes. One of the most powerful methods for studying folliculogenesis is the culture of ovarian follicles and oogenesis within a completely controlled environment. Follicle culture systems are highly developed and are rapidly evolving.

Osteoporosis is a common bone disease that results in elevated risk of fracture, and delayed bone healing and impaired bone regeneration are implicated by this disease. In this study, Elastin/Polycaprolactone/nHA nanofibrous scaffold in combination with mesenchymal stem cells were used to regenerate bone defects. Cytotoxicity, cytocompatibility and cellular morphology were evaluated in vitro and observations revealed that an appropriate environment for cellular attachment, growth, migration, and proliferation is provided by this scaffold.

Purpose: Recent evidence has indicated that miRNAs play an important role in both initiation and progression of many pathologic processes such as diabetes and can be used as an important and more sensitive tool to predict the development of the disease than the currently used biomarkers. This research aimed at comparing miR-7-5p and miR-33a-5p expression levels in the diabetics and pre-diabetics with the control group.

Methods: In this study, we compared expression of miR-7-5p and miR-33a-5p in plasma of three groups including pre-diabetic patients ( = 20), T2D patients ( = 20) and control group ( = 20), using RT-qPCR.
