It is generally accepted that L-asparagine is an important amino acid required for the fast growth of cells. Cancerous cells receive this amino acid from extracellular sources. The depletion of L-asparagine from its surrounding environments by asparaginase enzyme can be used as a therapeutic strategy in cancer patients.

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a progressive metabolic disorder whose prevalence is rising very fast across the world. Diagnosis of this disease in early stages (pre-diabetic stage) plays an important role in reducing mortality associated with this disorder. miRNAs, as key players in the pathogenesis of T2DM, have been investigated in several studies.

is known as a Gram-negative bacterium that has become one of the most important health problems due to antibiotic resistance. Today, numerous efforts are being made to find new antibiotics against this nosocomial pathogen. As an alternative solution, finding bacterial target(s), necessary for survival and spread of most resistant strains, can be a benefit exploited in drug and vaccine design.

Background: In the recent years, hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection has been considered as a risk factor for gastric cancer, but further studies are required to confirm these claim. The present study was aimed to evaluate the correlation between gastric pathology (precancerous and cancerous conditions) with HBV infection in Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) positive or negative patients.

In terms of health, dyes have carcinogenic, mutagenic and toxic properties and can have adverse effects on health and the environment. Therefore, sewage containing to dyes must be purified before being discharged into the environment. The current study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of Alcea rosea root extract in Disperse red 60 and Reactive blue 19 dyes removal from synthetic sewage.

Background: Tumor-targeting peptides are attracting subjects in cancer therapy. These peptides, which are widely studied, deliver therapeutic agents to the specific sites of tumors. In this study, we produced a new form of recombinant listeriolysin O (LLO) with genetically fused Anti-HER2/neu peptide (AHNP) sequence adding to its C-terminal end.

Background: Prostate cancer (Pca) is a heterogeneous disease, and current treatments are not based on molecular stratification. Poly(adenosine diphosphate [ADP]-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors have recently been found to be remarkably toxic to cells with defects in homologous recombination, particularly cells with BRCA-mutated backgrounds. Therefore, this preliminary study was designed to evaluate whether PTEN expression status could have an impact on the sensitivity of invasive Pca cells to the PARP inhibitor, AZD2461.

The CRISPR/Cas9 system is a precisely targeted bacterial defense system, used to control invading viruses. This technology has many potential applications including genetic changes in somatic and germ cells and the creation of knockout animals. Compared to other genome editing techniques such as zinc-finger nucleases and transcription activator-like effector nucleases (TALENS), the CRISPR/Cas9 system is much easier and more efficient.

Objective: Early discharge of some in-patients is the effective measure to create hospital surge capacity in disasters. However, some of these patients may need to post-discharge continuity of care. The aim of the current study then is to explore the barriers of continuity of care, and to provide suitable solutions for potentially dischargeable patients during disasters.

This study determined the association between the levels of interleukin (IL)-17 and IL-23 in follicular fluid (FF), as well as their mRNA levels in cumulus cells from infertile women at risk for ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). In this case-controlled study, the control group ( = 40) was infertile women whose partners had male factor infertility, whereas the case group ( = 40) was infertile women at risk of OHSS. IL-17 and IL-23 concentrations in FF were measured using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method, whereas the mRNA expression levels of IL-17 and IL-23 of cumulus cells were determined using RT-PCR.

The targeted genome modification using RNA-guided nucleases is associated with several advantages such as a rapid, easy, and efficient method that not only provides the manipulation and alteration of genes and functional studies for researchers, but also increases their awareness of the molecular basis of the disease and development of new and targeted therapeutic approaches. Different techniques have been emerged so far as the molecular scissors mediating targeted genome editing including zinc finger nuclease, transcription activator-like effector nucleases, and clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)-CRISPR-associated protein 9 (Cas9). CRISPR-Cas9 is a bacterial immune system against viruses in which the single-strand RNA-guided Cas9 nuclease is linked to the targeted complementary sequences to apply changes.

Interleukin (IL)-10, a multifunctional immune-regulatory cytokine with both immunosuppressive and anti-angiogenic functions, is produced by immune cells including macrophages, T lymphocytes, and natural killer cells. Among other effects, IL-10 promotes tumor cell proliferation and metastasis via immunosuppression. Interleukin-10-mediated immunosuppression is aided by synthesis of tumor necrosis factor, IL-1, IL-12, and chemokines, and down regulation of the surface co-stimulatory molecules CD80 and CD86 on tumors.

Background: The study of microRNA expression can be effective in the diagnosing and treating different diseases. miR-135a is one of the most important micro-ribonucleic acids involved in endometriosis. Among the genes that become the target of the miR-135a and are subjected to changes in the endometrium of patients with endometriosis is gene which is expressed in the endometrium in response to steroid hormones.
