In semi-arid and arid regions, mulching with various materials is one of the highly significant ways to keep soil surface coverage. This approach helps efficiently reduce drought stress and soil erosion, thus preserving soil composition and ecosystem. The research aimed to pinpoint the physicochemical alterations and fungal diversity brought on by food waste mulch (FWM) in the desert soil.

The Effect of Total Thyroidectomy on Trace Elements, Namely Zinc and Copper in Patients with Thyroid Diseases.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of total thyroidectomy on serum levels of trace elements, namely zinc and copper, in patients with thyroid diseases. In this cross-sectional study, 42 patients with thyroid diseases according to laboratory and fine needle aspiration (FNA) results divided into two groups, including differentiated thyroid cancer group (papillary and follicular) and non-cancerous group (MNG: Multinodular goiter). Before the surgery, blood sample was taken to investigate the zinc and copper levels.

A State-of-the-Art Review on the Recent Advances in Exosomes in Oncogenic Virus.

Background And Aims: Oncogenic viruses are responsible for approximately 12% of human malignancies, influencing various cancer processes through intricate interactions with host cells. Exosomes (EXOs), nanometric-sized microvesicles involved in cell communication, have emerged as critical mediators in these interactions. This review aims to explore the mechanisms by which EXOs produced by cells infected with oncogenic viruses promote cancer growth, enhance viral transmissibility, and act as immunomodulators.

Association between chronic kidney disease and cardiovascular disease risk factors in elderly: results from the first phase of Fasa and Shahedieh cohort studies.

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with increased cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors and morbidity in the elderly population. This study aimed to examine the association between CKD and CVD risk factors in the elderly population of Fasa and Yazd (Shahdieh), Iran, using the data from the enrolment phase of Fasa and Shahedieh cohort studies.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional analytical study using data from Fasa and Shahedieh cohort studies, which enrolled 1487 and 1507 participants aged over 60 years, respectively.

Application of cloud point extraction coupled with derivative spectrophotometry to remove binary mixture of Cresol Red and Methyl Orange dyes from aqueous solutions: Box-behnken design optimization.

Cloud point extraction (CPE) was employed to eliminate Cresol Red (CR) and Methyl Orange (MO), as anionic dyes in a binary mixture from aqueous solutions. To remove these dyes Triton X-100 and NaCl at pH 5.7 were utilized.

Circular RNAs: novel noncoding players in male infertility.

Infertility is a global problem being associated with emotional and financial burden. Recent studies have shown contribution of a group of non-coding RNAs, namely circular RNAs (circRNAs) to the etiology of some infertility conditions. CircRNA are transcribed from exons and form a circular RNA molecule, being abundant in eukaryotes.

Kidney stones or Nephrolithiasis are the most common health condition associated with the urinary system. Dietary factors stand as important factors in the occurrence and development of kidney stones. This study aimed to examine the potential link between dietary insulin index (DII) and dietary insulin load (DIL) with prevalence of kidney stones.

Phage-Derived Endolysins Against Resistant Staphylococcus spp.: A Review of Features, Antibacterial Activities, and Recent Applications.

Antimicrobial resistance is a significant global public health issue, and the dissemination of antibiotic resistance in Gram-positive bacterial pathogens has significantly increased morbidity, mortality rates, and healthcare costs. Among them, Staphylococcus, especially methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), causes a wide range of diseases due to its diverse pathogenic factors and infection strategies. These bacteria also present significant issues in veterinary medicine and food safety.

Developing guidelines for ethical response to infectious disease outbreaks in Islamic Republic of Iran.

Background: Ethical considerations are important in pandemic preparedness and response, however, there is a noticeable scarcity of ethical codes that are tailored to disease outbreaks and health emergencies.

Aim: To document the development of guidelines for ethical management of infectious disease outbreaks in Islamic Republic of Iran, as a model for low- and middle-income countries.

Methods: We conducted a non-systematic scoping review on PubMed and Google Scholar for drafting the guidelines for ethical management of infectious disease outbreaks in Islamic Republic of Iran.

A two-stage deep-learning model for determination of the contact of mandibular third molars with the mandibular canal on panoramic radiographs.

Objectives: This study aimed to assess the accuracy of a two-stage deep learning (DL) model for (1) detecting mandibular third molars (MTMs) and the mandibular canal (MC), and (2) classifying the anatomical relationship between these structures (contact/no contact) on panoramic radiographs.

Method: MTMs and MCs were labeled on panoramic radiographs by a calibrated examiner using bounding boxes. Each bounding box contained MTM and MC on one side.

Degradation of piroxicam and celecoxib from aqueous solution by high-energy electron beam as a Sustainable method.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are one of the most commonly prescribed drugs that can reduce pain. This study aimed to measure the concentration of piroxicam and celecoxib in Iranian hospitals, as well as the effect of electron beam irradiation on the degradation of these pollutants in synthetic and real samples. The high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used to detect the residual analytes in the samples.

The role of mir-214-5p and mir-548-5p expressions in endometriosis.

Background: Endometriosis is a benign gynecological disease that affects about 1% of all women and up to 15% of women of childbearing age. To date, none of the proposed theories exhaustively explain the pathophysiology of the disease or the associated clinical manifestations. As part of efforts to introduce new methods for the early and non-invasive diagnosis of endometriosis, this project investigated changes in the expression of miR-214-5p and miR-548-5p in ectopic and eutopic tissue compared to normal endometrial tissue.

Professionalism assessment of students in clinical education through Situational Judgment Test (SJT).

Background: The study aims to assess the situational judgment capability of students in various professions, including medicine, surgical nursing, anesthesia nursing, and emergency medical technology, using a validated and adapted Situational Judgment Test (SJT).

Methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted at Qom University of Medical Sciences in 2023-2024. The study consisted of two steps: (1) adaptation and validity assessment of the SJT in various health professions, and (2) evaluation of students' situational judgment capability using the adapted SJT.

This study aimed to compare the effect of three oils of sesame, canola and sesame-canola on cardio metabolic factors across genotypes of rs174556 variant in patients with type 2 of diabetes. This study was a randomized triple-blind three-way cross-over clinical trial.

Impact of Maternal Hormone Profile and Paternal Sperm DNA Fragmentation on Clinical Outcomes Following Assisted Reproduction.

Background: Success of assisted reproductive techniques depends on multiple factors including maternal endocrine status, hormonal balance, and paternal sperm quality. A comprehensive pre-treatment evaluation allows better prediction of outcomes and avoidance of unnecessary procedures and expenses.

Methods: To examine the impact of female hormonal profiles and sperm DNA damage on the success of assisted reproduction, medical data were extracted from the clinical records of infertile couples including couples' age and levels of maternal anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), and prolactin (PRL), as well as the DNA fragmentation index (DFI) in men.

The Impact of Endometriosis on Reproductive Outcomes in ART Cycles.

Background: Endometriosis is defined as the existence of endometrial glands and stroma outside the uterine cavity. This disease is responsible for about 15% of the indications for assisted reproductive technologies (ART).

Materials And Methods: This study is a retrospective cross-sectional study on 1382 women aged 18-42 who underwent ART in Yazd Reproductive Sciences Institute during 2018-2022.

MicroRNA-mediated regulation of Ferroptosis: Implications for disease pathogenesis and therapeutic interventions.

Ferroptosis, a form of iron-dependent regulated cell death, is characterized by the accumulation of lipid peroxides and distinctive morphological features. Moreover, the reduction of intracellular antioxidant enzyme expression or activity, specifically glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) results in activation of the endogenous pathway of ferroptosis. In this review, we aimed to explore the intricate interplay between microRNAs (miRNAs) and ferroptosis, shedding light on its implications in various disease pathologies.

Autosomal recessive -related disorder: comprehensive analysis of phenotypic variability and genetic mutations.

A newly identified subtype of hereditary axonal motor neuropathy, characterized by early proximal limb involvement, has been discovered in a cohort of 34 individuals with biallelic variants in von Willebrand factor A domain-containing 1 (). This study further delineates the disease characteristics in a cohort of 20 individuals diagnosed through genome or exome sequencing, incorporating neurophysiological, laboratory and imaging data, along with data from previously reported cases across three different studies. Newly reported clinical features include hypermobility/hyperlaxity, axial weakness, dysmorphic signs, asymmetric presentation, dystonic features and, notably, upper motor neuron signs.

Background: The fast spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic and its high mortality were quickly considered by the health community. Dietary patterns play an important role in strengthening or weakening the immune system and thus incidence of diseases.

Aim: The present study can provide a comprehensive picture of the association between adherence to unhealthy plant-based diet (uPDI) and COVID-19 incidence.

Bacteriocins, natural antimicrobial peptides produced by bacteria, present eco-friendly, non-toxic, and cost-effective alternatives to traditional chemical antimicrobial agents in the food industry. This review provides a comprehensive update on the classification of bacteriocins in food preservation. It highlights the significant industrial potential of pediocin-like and two-peptide bacteriocins, emphasizing chemical synthesis methods like Fmoc-SPPS to meet the demand for bioactive bacteriocins.

Sexual health counseling improves the sexual satisfaction of breast cancer survivors: a randomized controlled trial.

Purpose: Breast cancer and its treatments can cause sexual problems both physically and psychologically by the changes it brings. This study aimed to investigate the effect of sexual health counseling based on acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) on the sexual satisfaction of women with chemotherapy-induced menopause (CIM) in breast cancer survivors.

Methods: Seventy women with CIM were randomly divided into two intervention (N = 34) and control (N = 36) groups.
