Improvement of clinical outcome, laboratory findings and inflammatory cytokines levels using plasmapheresis therapy in severe COVID-19 cases.

Introduction: Cytokine storm is one of the consequences of the severe forms of COVID-19 due to excessive immune response. In this study, we investigated the therapeutic effect of plasmapheresis and its role on the inflammatory cytokines levels in patients suffering from severe COVID-19.

Methods: In plasmapheresis group, 22 severe cases of COVID-19 receiving three cycles of plasmapheresis with time interval of 24-36 h and 22 COVID-19 patients as the control group were enrolled.

Metabolic risk factors of ovarian cancer: a review.

Ovarian cancer continues to be the leading cause of death from gynecological cancers. Despite inconsistent results, patients with metabolic abnormalities, including obesity and diabetes mellitus (DM), have poorer outcomes, showing a correlation with ovarian cancer incidence and ovarian cancer survival. Since ovarian cancer is the most common cancer in women, and considering the increasing prevalence of obesity and DM, this paper reviews the literature regarding the relationship between the aforementioned metabolic derangements and ovarian cancer, with a focus on ovarian cancer incidence, mortality, and likely mechanisms behind them.

Computed tomography findings in 3,557 COVID-19 infected children: a systematic review.

Background: Although it was assumed in the early stages of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak that the novel coronavirus infection was uncommon among children, the number of infected children has since been increasing significantly. Real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) is the gold standard modality for the diagnosis of COVID-19 infection. In adults, chest CT is performed as an adjunct for identifying suspected COVID-19 cases along with patients' management and follow-up.

The Efficacy of Famotidine in improvement of outcomes in Hospitalized COVID-19 Patients: A structured summary of a study protocol for a randomised controlled trial.

Objectives: This study aims to investigate the effect of Famotidine on the recovery process of COVID-19 patients.

Trial Design: This phase III randomized clinical trial was designed with two parallel arms, placebo-controlled, single-blind, and concealed allocation.

Participants: All COVID-19 patients admitted to Shahid Mohammadi Hospital in Bandar Abbas whose PCR test results are positive for SARS-Cov-2 and sign the written consent of the study are included in the study and immunocompromised patients, end-stage renal disease, moderate renal failure (clearance Creatinine 30 to 50 ml/min) or stage 4 severe chronic kidney disease or need for dialysis (creatinine clearance lesser than 30 ml/min), history of liver disease, hepatitis C infection or alcoholism, Glucose 6 phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency(G6PD), the ratio of Alanine transaminase to Aspartate transaminase 5 times above the normal limit, history or evidence of long QT segment on Electrocardiogram, psoriasis or porphyria, pregnancy, use of oral contraceptives, Dasatinib, Neratinib, Ozanimod, Pazopanib, Rilpivirine, Siponimod and/or Tizanidine and allergies to any study drug are excluded.

Human sperm cryopreservation is a common technique which is used in assisted reproductive technologies. Despite the existence of evidence supporting the production of ROS and DNA fragmentation during sperm cryopreservation, there is little and equivocal information about the cryopreservation effects on methylation of imprinted genes and imprinting control regions. In this study, we have investigated the effects of cryopreservation on DNA methylation in promoter regions of SNURF-SNRPN and UBE3A imprinted genes, PWS-ICR and AS-ICR in the chromosome 15q11-q13 region.

Background: Ultrasound imaging has been suggested for studying the structure and function of nerves and muscles; however, reliability studies are limited to support the usage. The main aim of this study was to explore the intrarater within-session reliability of evaluating the sciatic nerve and some related muscles morphology by ultrasound imaging.

Methods: Three B-mode images from two scans (transverse and longitudinal) were acquired from the multifidus, biceps femoris, soleus and medial gastrocnemius muscles bilaterally from 15 participants with sciatica and 15 controls in one session, 1-h apart.

Objectives The objective of this study was to assess the short-term effects of dry needling on spasticity, gait, and muscle architecture of patients with chronic stroke. Methods A case series study was designed; and six chronic stroke patients with ankle spasticity and gait impairment received a single session of dry needling for gastrocnemius medialis, lateralis, and soleus muscles. The main outcome measures were the Modified Modified Ashworth Scale (MMAS), and Timed Up and Go test (TUG).
