In this study, an ultrasonic assisted dispersive magnetic solid phase extraction leveraging FeO@nitrogen-doped carbon@Pd core-double shell nanotubes was developed for the extraction of organophosphorus pesticides (OPPs) in trace levels from real samples. Incorporation of Pd species into the structure of the nanosorbent could enhance its interactions with sulfur groups in the structure of OPPs. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction, brunauer-emmett-teller, field emission scanning electron microscopy, and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy were used to characterize the nanosorbent after its synthesis.

Background: One of the main reasons for cancer resistance to chemotherapy is the presence of cancer stem cells (CSCs) in cancer tissues. It is also believed that CSCs are the unique originators of all tumor cells. On the other hand, the Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition pathway (EMT) can act as the main agent of metastasis.

Unlabelled: Growing evidence demonstrates that cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAF) are responsible for tumor genesis, growth, metastasis, and treatment response. Therefore, targeting these cells may contribute to tumor control. It has been proposed that targeting key molecules and pathways of proliferative functions can be more effective than killing CAFs.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) immunotherapy by anti-PD-1 monoclonal antibodies: A rapidly evolving strategy.

Pathol Res Pract

July 2023

Department of Life Science Engineering, Faculty of New Sciences and Technologies, University of Tehran, Tehran, Iran. Electronic address:

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the deadliest cancers in the world, with a high relapse rate. Delayed symptom onset observed in 70-80% of patients leads to diagnosis in advanced stages commonly associated with chronic liver disease. Programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) blockade therapy has recently emerged as a promising therapeutic option in the clinical management of several advanced malignancies, including HCC, due to the activation of exhausted tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes and improved outcomes of T-cell function.

Accumulating proofs signify that pleiotropic effects of mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) are not allied to their differentiation competencies but rather are mediated mainly by the releases of soluble paracrine mediators, making them a reasonable therapeutic option to enable damaged tissue repair. Due to their unique immunomodulatory and regenerative attributes, the MSC-derived exosomes hold great potential to treat neurodegeneration-associated neurological diseases. Exosome treatment circumvents drawbacks regarding the direct administration of MSCs, such as tumor formation or reduced infiltration and migration to brain tissue.

Magnesium, iron, and copper are three vital metals that play essential roles in cancer cell proliferation. This study aimed to evaluate the metal chelation of new derivatives of pyrazino[1,2-a]benzimidazole and investigate their antiproliferative properties. The density functional theory method has been employed to evaluate the complexation properties of new synthetic pyrazino[1,2-a]benzimidazole derivatives possessing the 4-OMe, 2,4-dimethyl, and 3,4,5-trimethoxy substitution on N-2 phenyl ring with divalent magnesium, iron, and copper.

In this work, we have synthesized twenty five new 2-(5-(5-nitrofuran-2-yl)-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-ylimino)thiazolidin-4-one derivatives bearing an aryl or heteroaryl methylene group on position 5 of thiazolidinone and evaluated their antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive and -negative bacteria as well as three metronidazole resistant Helicobacter pylori strains. Most of the compounds were very potent towards tested Gram-positive bacteria and showed an antibacterial efficacy substantially greater than ampicillin as the reference drug. However, no effectiveness was observed for the Gram-negative microorganisms.

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are crystalline porous organic structures with two- or three-dimensional (2D or 3D) features and composed of building blocks being connected via covalent bonds. The manifold applications of COFs in optoelectronic devices, energy conversion and storage, adsorption, separation, sensing, organocatalysis, photocatalysis, electrocatalytic reactions, and biomedicine are increasing because of their notable intrinsic features such as large surface area, porosity, designable structure, low density, crystallinity, biocompatibility, and high chemical stability. These properties have rendered 2D and 3D COF-based materials as desirable entities for drug delivery, gene delivery, photothermal therapy, photodynamic therapy, combination therapy, biosensing, bioimaging, and anticancer activities.
