Introduction: While the relationship between narcissism and empathy has been well-researched, studies have paid less attention to empathic accuracy, i.e., appreciating the precise strength of another person's emotions, and self-other distinction, in terms of the disparity between affective ratings for self and other in response to emotive stimuli.

Background: The venom of contains both procoagulant and anticoagulant components that can either promote or block the blood coagulation cascade, and some of these components affect platelet function in different ways.

Objectives: The present study focuses on setting up a procedure for the purification of crude venom and designing appropriate clotting tests in order to characterize the procoagulant and anticoagulant fractions of venom.

Methods: Chromatographic methods, including gel filtration, ion-exchange chromatography, and reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), were applied for purifying these fractions.

Article Synopsis
  • IGF-I, a human growth factor produced in E. coli, is a 70-amino-acid polypeptide that has been successfully expressed in high yields using this bacteria.
  • This study investigates the effect of N-hexanoyl-L-Homoserine Lactone (HHL) on enhancing E. coli cell growth and rh-IGF-1 production in a controlled culture.
  • The results show that increasing HHL concentrations leads to higher bacterial mass and increased rh-IGF-I levels, suggesting that AHLs could serve as effective inducers for protein production in bacterial systems.

Sulfur mustard (SM) is a cytotoxic chemical agent which can cause severe irritation and irreversible damages to body tissues. The effect of SM gas on respiratory tract is one of the main causes of short and long term disabling complications. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) have a critical role in controlling extra cellular matrix remodeling and inflammatory responses in lung tissue and are involved in many various chronic pulmonary diseases.
