Combined fractures of the femoral head and acetabulum due to hip gunshot injuries (GSI) are rare, and there is no preferred treatment option. Background: Several previous studies have shown cavitary lung lesions in old pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) increase the risk of fungus ball. Detection of galactomannan (GM) in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) is also proposed as a diagnostic approach for the fungus ball.

Objectives: We evaluated the diagnosis of fungus balls and GM levels in BAL samples in PTB patients.

Purpose: Previous studies suggested the possible role of autonomic dysfunction in sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP). The aim of this study is to assess the interictal ECG alternations especially heart rate variability (HRV), as a marker of autonomic dysfunction, in patients with drug-resistant epilepsy and determine the effect of epilepsy type and duration, seizure frequency and anti-epileptic drugs (AEDs) on ECG findings.

Methods: In this comparative cross-sectional study, the interictal ECG parameters of 64 consecutive patients with drug-resistant epilepsy and the same number of age and sex-matched controls were analyzed.

Objectives: The regenerative potential of bone marrow-derived mononuclear cells (MNCs) and CD133+ stem cells in the heart varies in terms of their pro-angiogenic effects. This phase II/III, multicenter and double-blind trial is designed to compare the functional effects of intramyocardial autologous transplantation of both cell types and placebo in patients with recent myocardial infarction (RMI) post-coronary artery bypass graft.

Materials And Methods: This was a phase II/III, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial COMPARE CPM-RMI (CD133, Placebo, MNCs - recent myocardial infarction) conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki that assessed the safety and efficacy of CD133 and MNCs compared to placebo in patients with RMI.

Background: Heavy menstrual bleeding of endometrial origin (HMB) is a major healthcare problem in premenopausal women and affects several aspects of women's health and quality of life (QoL). The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of Persian Golnar (PG) and tranexamic acid (TA) on heavy menstrual bleeding of endometrial origin (HMB) and patients' QoL.

Methods: A double-blind randomized controlled trial with parallel design and block randomization technique was conducted.

Women with preeclampsia, independent of obesity and glucose intolerance, exhibit insulin resistance during pregnancy. The purpose of the present study is to determine whether early diagnosis of insulin resistance during pregnancy can predict preeclampsia. Through a case-control study, 675 pregnant women were selected and their first trimester blood was taken.

The limited experience in treating patients with extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB) shows a therapeutic success rate under 50-60% and there are no publications regarding the outcome of these patients treated with standardized regimens. All multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) patients hospitalized at the Masih Daneshvari Hospital in Tehran, Iran, during 2004-2007 were recruited. Drug susceptibility testing to 14 drugs (including eight second-line drugs) was performed and a standardized regimen with ofloxacin, cycloserine, prothionamide, and amikacin was administered for all patients.

Inhibition of LAT1 (L-type amino acid transporter 1) activity in tumor cells could be effective in the inhibition of tumor cell growth by depriving tumor cells of essential amino acids. Because of the high level of expression of LAT1 in tumor cells, LAT1 inhibitors would be useful for anticancer therapy in suppressing tumor growth without affecting normal tissues. In recent years, cDNA microarray technique is useful technology for anticancer drug development.

The effects of low-level lasers on bone cellular activity, bone structures, bone healing, fibroblasts activity and inflammation process have already been investigated. Considering orthodontic tooth movement, which is a complicated inflammatory process involving simultaneous bone apposition and resorption, the aim of this controlled study is to investigate the quantitative effects of a pulsed 850 nm laser (Optodan) and a continuous 630 nm laser (KLO3) on the orthodontic tooth movement in rabbits. This experimental study was conducted on 18 male albino rabbits divided into three equal groups of control, Optodan and KLO3.
