Objective: Evidence from observational studies suggests that Sjögren's syndrome (SS) may contribute to an elevated risk of Parkinson's disease (PD) and dementia. However, few studies have been undertaken to summarize and assess the consistency of the data quantitatively. Therefore, we evaluated the risk of dementia and PD in SS patients through a systematic review and meta-analysis approach.

Department of Chinese Materia Medica and Natural Medicines, School of Pharmacy, Air Force Medical University, Xi'an, China.

The chemical constituent investigation on the root bark of leads to the isolation of a new -carboline alkaloid, 14(),15-dihydroxy-6-methoxy--carboline (), along with nine known alkaloids. The structure of new compound was elucidated on basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis, especially two-dimensional (2D) NMR techniques and the absolute configuration of C-14 was determined by ECD calculation. The neuroprotective effect of the isolated compounds on PC12 cells against the serum deprivation injury was evaluated by MTT method.

The therapeutic application of neural stem cells (NSCs) in the central nerve system (CNS) injury is a promising strategy for combating irreversible neuronal loss. However, a variety of obvious inflammatory responses following nerve injury rapidly create an unfavorable microenvironment for survival and neuronal differentiation of NSCs in lesion area, limiting the efficacy of NSC-based therapy for CNS injury. It remained unknown how to effectively increase the neuronal differentiation efficiency of NSCs through transplantation.

Introduction: Despite the growing evidence for the anticancer effect of metformin or its combination with epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs), the efficacies and side effects of such strategies in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with or without type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are not well understood. This meta-analysis was performed to determine the efficacy and side effects of metformin combined with EGFR-TKIs (MET-EGFR-TKIs) for the treatment of NSCLC with or without T2DM.

Methods: PubMed and Cochrane Library databases were used to retrieve relevant studies through August 2020 using the keywords "metformin", "EGFR-TKIs" ("gefitinib" or "erlotinib" or "afatinib" or "icotinib" or "dacomitinib") and "lung cancer".

Licochalcone A inhibits IgE-mediated allergic reaction through PLC/ERK/STAT3 pathway.

Int J Immunopathol Pharmacol

October 2022

Department of Joint Surgery, Xi'an Hong Hui Hospital, Xi'an Jiaotong University Health Science Center, Xi'an, P. R. China.

Licochalcone (LicA) is a flavonoid commonly derived from the licorice plant that is reported to have a variety of pharmacological activities. However, few studies have focused on its anti-allergic properties. IgE-mediated passive and systemic anaphylaxis mice models were used to assess the in vivo anti-allergic effect of LicA and its underlying mechanism, while degranulation, cytokines, and chemokines released from laboratory of allergic disease (LAD2) cells were used to assess its in vitro anti-allergic effect.

Aims: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a common and irreversible neurodegenerative disease accompanied by extensive synaptic loss. Previous studies found that moxibustion had good therapeutic effects on AD. We here investigated whether moxibustion could alleviate the cognitive impairment of AD by promoting the "astrocyte-neuron" interaction and enhancing synaptic plasticity.

Cytotoxin-associated gene A (CagA) and vacuolating cytotoxin A (VacA) are the keys to the pathogenic role of and the high-risk factors for the progression of gastric precancerous lesions. Autophagy can stabilize the intracellular environment, resist infection, prevent the accumulation of damaged DNA, and inhibit the proliferation of gastric precancerous variant cells. However, CagA and VacA can inhibit the activation of upstream signals of autophagy and the maturation of autophagy-lysosomes in various ways, thus inhibiting the autophagy of gastric mucosal cells in precancerous lesions of gastric cancer.
