The current study applied an untargeted metabolomics approach by ultra high performance liquid chromatography quadrupole-orbitaltrap high resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-Oritrap-MS) to identify the chemical composition of irradiated goat meat and investigate the effect of irradiation on its metabolic profile and meat quality. A total of 103 metabolites were identified as differential metabolites responsible for metabolic changes in irradiated goat meat, which were involved in phenylalanine, tyrosine and tryptophan biosynthesis, phenylalanine metabolism and purine metabolism. Differential metabolites comprising amino acids, nucleotides and their derivatives were determined as the discriminating factors responsible for the meat quality during irradiation.

Standard fermentation (SF) mainly affected the metabolism of glycerophospholipid and sphingolipid, and increased the total lipid content of goat milk. Content of total lipid was decreased by magnetic fermentation compared with SF, mainly due to triacylglycerol and diacylglycerol. Comprehensive characteristic of lipids dynamic changes during standard and magnetic fermentation was performed using high-throughput quantitative lipidomics.

Novel fabrication of stable Pickering emulsion and latex by hollow silica nanoparticles.

J Colloid Interface Sci

October 2019

The Research Development National Institute for Textiles and Leather, Division Leather and Footwear Research Institute, 93 Street Ion Minulescu, 031215 Bucharest, Romania.

Hypothesis: In conventional Pickering emulsions, solid nanoparticles are usually employed as stabilizers. However, hollow nanoparticles are desirable candidates for the stabilization of Pickering emulsion and latex due to their strong adsorption property and low density stemming from the hollow cavity structure.

Experiments: In order to investigate the superiority of hollow silica nanoparticles in stabilizing emulsions, Pickering emulsion and polyacrylate latex were fabricated using hollow silica nanoparticles as stabilizers.

CA/NaAlg polyelectrolyte complex (PEC) novelly obtained from cationized casein (CA) and sodium alginate (NaAlg) via electrostatic interactions was designed for fragrance (vanillin) controlled release. Structural variation between pristine CA/NaAlg PEC and vanillin-loaded CA/NaAlg PEC were investigated by ultraviolet (UV), fourier transform infrared (FI-TR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Pristine CA/NaAlg PEC and vanillin-loaded CA/NaAlg PEC were demonstrated spherical in shape by transmission electron microscopy (TEM).

Thermally processed diets are widely consumed, although advanced-glycation end products (AGEs) are unavoidably formed. AGEs, clusters of protein-cross-linking products, become less digestible because they impair intestinal peptidase proteolysis. We characterized the impacts of dietary AGEs on gut microbiota through a microbiome-to-metabolome association study.

Scope: The adverse impacts of dietary advanced glycation end products (AGEs) on health are currently of interest. These compounds are inevitably formed during thermal food processing and make foods less digestible because of protein cross-linking. This study examined not only whether dietary AGEs alter cecal microbiota and their metabolites but also their effects on colon permeability.

Hollow silica spheres (HSS) with special interior spaces, high specific surface area and excellent adsorption and permeability performance were synthesized via micelle-template method using cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) micelles as soft template and tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) as silica precursor. SEM, TEM, FT-IR, XRD, DLS and BET-BJH were carried out to characterize the morphology and structure of as-obtained samples. The results demonstrated that the samples were amorphous with a hollow structure and huge specific surface area.

Effect of Linear-Hyperbranched Amphiphilic Phosphate Esters on Collagen Fibers.

J Agric Food Chem

January 2017

College of Arts and Sciences, Shaanxi University of Science and Technology, Xi'an, Shaanxi, People's Republic of China 710021.

The surfactants of the linear-hyperbranched phosphate esters (PAMAM-3-Ps) have been constructed through random multibranching esterification of lauroyl chloride and phosphate ester as a branching agent. Subsequently, a series of surfactant products were obtained. Benefiting from the amphiphilic structure with the hydrophilic core and many hydrophobic tails, PAMAM-3-Ps were able to self-assemble into nanomicelles in aqueous media.

A robust, self-healing superhydrophobic poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) fabric was fabricated by a convenient solution-dipping method using an easily available material system consisting of polydimethylsiloxane and octadecylamine (ODA). The surface roughness was formed by self-roughening of ODA coating on PET fibers without any lithography steps or adding any nanomaterials. The fabric coating was durable to withstand 120 cycles of laundry and 5000 cycles of abrasion without apparently changing the superhydrophobicity.

This paper describes a very simple strategy towards self-stabilized poly(acrylic acid)--poly(hexafluorobutyl acrylate) (PAA--PHFBA) block copolymer particles via reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT)-mediated polymerization-induced self-assembly. Hexafluorobutyl acrylate (HFBA) monomer conversion and number-average molar mass of PAA--PHFBA increased gradually with the increase in the pH value of the aqueous phase. When pH < 10, the molecular weight distributions of PAA--PHFBA were narrow, however, when the pH was raised to 11.

Biomimetic superhydrophobic surfaces by combining mussel-inspired adhesion with lotus-inspired coating.

Nanotechnology

August 2015

College of Resource and Environment, Shaanxi University of Science and Technology, Xi'an 710021, People's Republic of China. Shaanxi Research Institute of Agricultural Products Processing Technology, Shaanxi University of Science and Technology, Xi'an 710021, People's Republic of China.

Superhydrophobic surfaces on PET textiles were fabricated by combined bioinspiration from the strong adhesion of marine mussels and the two-scale structure of lotus leaves under mild conditions. Dopamine can spontaneously polymerize in alkaline aqueous solution to form a thin adhesive layer of polydopamine (PDA) wrapping on the micro-scale fibers. The as-formed thin PDA layer worked as a reactive template to generate PDA nanoparticles decorated on the fiber surfaces, imparting the textiles with excellent UV-shielding properties as well as a hierarchical structure similar to the morphology of the lotus leaf.

Superhydrophobic surfaces were fabricated via surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization of fluorinated methacrylates on poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) fabrics. The hydrophobicity of the PET fabric was systematically tunable by controlling the polymerization time. The obtained superhydrophobic fabrics showed excellent chemical robustness even after exposure to different chemicals, such as acid, base, salt, acetone, and toluene.

With oleic acid grafting modification, a series of hyperbranched-linear polymer surfactants (HLPS) were prepared by hydroxyl-terminated hyperbranched polymer (HBP), which was gained through a step synthesis method using trimethylolpropane and AB monomer. The AB monomers were obtained through the Michael addition reaction of methyl acrylate and diethanol amine. The structures of HLPS were characterised by Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometer and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), which indicated that HBP was successfully modified by oleic acid.
