Background: Although scholars have extensively explored the impact of parents on the mental health of children and adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic, the role of living arrangements has not received sufficient attention. Furthermore, the previous studies do not investigate whether living with a father or a mother has differing impacts on the mental health of adolescents, nor does it explore potential differences between biological parents and step-parents in this regard.

Study Aims: This study aims to explore the impact of various living arrangements during the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of adolescents, with a particular focus on parental presence and family structure.

Construction and evaluation of glycoprotein-based nucleic acid vaccines for Marburg virus.

Med Microbiol Immunol

November 2024

Department of Immunology, The Key Laboratory of Bio-hazard Damage and Prevention Medicine, Basic Medicine School, Air Force Medical University (the Fourth Military Medical University), Xi'an, 710032, Shaanxi, China.

Marburg virus (MARV) is a zoonotic virus that can infect humans and non-human primates (NHPs) and lead to a fatal Marburg hemorrhagic fever (MHF), while there is no approved vaccine or antiviral treatment for MHF. The nucleic acid vaccine has unique advantages, including fast and simple preparation, easy to follow the virus mutation situation, and less adverse reactions. Therefore, we constructed the DNA and mRNA candidate vaccines based on codon-optimized MARV glycoprotein sequence, and evaluated the immune effect in mice through ELISA, ELISpot, and Flow cytometry.

Lysosome-Associated Membrane Protein Targeting Strategy Improved Immunogenicity of Glycoprotein-Based DNA Vaccine for Marburg Virus.

Vaccines (Basel)

September 2024

Department of Immunology, The Key Laboratory of Bio-Hazard Damage and Prevention Medicine, Basic Medicine School, Air Force Medical University (The Fourth Military Medical University), Xi'an 710032, China.

Marburg hemorrhagic fever (MHF) is a fatal infectious disease caused by Marburg virus (MARV) infection, and MARV has been identified as a priority pathogen for vaccine development by the WHO. The glycoprotein (GP) of MARV mediates viral adhesion and invasion of host cells and therefore can be used as an effective target for vaccine development. Moreover, DNA vaccines have unique advantages, such as simple construction processes, low production costs, and few adverse reactions, but their immunogenicity may decrease due to the poor absorption rate of plasmids.

Chlorogenic acid (CGA) displays various biological activities in preventing high-calorie diet-induced metabolic complications. The absorption efficiency of CGA in the stomach and small intestine is relatively low, with approximately 70 % of CGA being metabolized by colonic microorganisms before it enters the bloodstream. In this study, we successfully developed CGA-LMP (Low-methoxy-pectin) conjugates to improve the absorption rate of CGA.

To investigate the difference in the development and neurobehavior between aluminum chloride (AlCl) and nano-alumina (AlNPs) in adult zebrafish and the role of triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells (TREM2) in this process. Zebrafish embryos were randomly administered with control, negative control, TREM2 knockdown, AlCl, TREM2 knockdown + AlCl, AlNPs, and TREM2 knockdown + AlNPs, wherein AlCl and AlNPs were 50 mg/L and TREM2 knockdown was achieved by microinjecting lentiviral-containing TREM2 inhibitors into the yolk sac. We assessed development, neurobehavior, histopathology, ultrastructural structure, neurotransmitters (AChE, DA), SOD, genes of TREM2 and neurodevelopment (α1-tubulin, syn2a, mbp), and AD-related proteins and genes.
