MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play a significant role in tumor progression, and regulating miRNA expression with small molecules may offer a new approach to cancer therapy. Among them, miRNA-20b has been found to be dysregulated in several cancers, including nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Herein, an in silico high-throughput computer screen was conducted to identify small molecules that downregulate miR-20b using the three-dimensional structure of the Dicer binding site on pre-miR-20b.

Histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) enzyme plays a crucial role in a variety of cellular processes related to cancer, and inhibition of HDAC6 is emerging as an effective strategy for cancer treatment. Although several hydroxamate-based HDAC6 inhibitors showed promising anticancer activities, the intrinsic defects such as poor selectivity, stability, and pharmacokinetics limited their application. In this study, a potent selenocyanide-bearing HDAC6 inhibitor, 5-phenylcarbamoylpentyl selenocyanide (SelSA), was evaluated for its antihepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) activity and further explored for its antitumor mechanisms.

Herein, a dual-sensitizer prodrug, named pro-THPC, has been designed to function as both a photosensitizer and a sonosensitizer prodrug for precise antitumor combination therapy with minimized skin phototoxicity. Pro-THPC could be activated by glutathione (GSH) to release the dual-sensitizer, THPC, which simultaneously switches on fluorescence emission and combined capabilities of photodynamic therapy (PDT) and sonodynamic therapy (SDT). Pro-THPC is further formulated into nanoparticles (NPs) for water dispersity to enable in vivo applications.

Pyroptosis is a recently discovered process of programmed cell death that is linked with tumor progression and potential treatment strategies. Unlike other forms of programmed cell death, such as apoptosis or necrosis, pyroptosis is associated with pore-forming proteins gasdermin D (GSDMD), which are cleaved by caspase enzymes to form oligomers. These oligomers are then inserted into the cell surface membrane, causing pores to consequently result in rapid cell death.

The progression of liver fibrosis is determined by the interaction of damaged hepatocytes, active hepatic stellate cells, and macrophages, contributing to the development of oxidative stress and inflammatory environments within the liver. Unfortunately, the current pharmacological treatment for liver fibrosis is limited by its inability to regulate inflammation and oxidative stress concurrently. Gold nanorods (AuNRs) have been considered highly compelling materials for early cancer diagnosis and have aroused a burgeoning fascination among the biomedical sectors. By leveraging the versatile tunable optical properties of AuNRs, herein, we have developed a novel tumor-targeted dual-modal nanoprobe (FFA) that exhibits excellent bioluminescence and photoacoustic imaging performance for early tumor diagnosis. FFA has been synthesized by anchoring the recombinant bioluminescent firefly luciferase protein (Fluc) on the folate-conjugated AuNRs via the PEG linker.

Material And Methods: In this article, 86 elderly patients with chronic wounds admitted to the Affiliated Hospital of Shaanxi University of Chinese Medicine from January 2023 to September 2023 were enrolled, and they were randomly divided into control and experimental groups, with 43 cases in each group.

Carbon-supported zinc single-atom catalysts have received considerable attention in the electrocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) owing to the strong reduction capacity of zinc atoms and the abundant reserves of zinc elements. The common preparation method has been limited to the high-temperature pyrolysis of nitrogen-rich organic molecules and zinc ions, which makes it difficult to further improve the ORR performance. Herein, we first prepared ZnO/PNT/rGO aerogels as precursors via a simple hydrothermal method combined with freeze-drying, in which reduced graphene oxides (rGO) and polypyrrole nanotubes (PNT) together assembled into three-dimensional frames and numerous ZnO nanoparticles were anchored in the three-dimensional skeletons.
