BI2536 is potent inhibitor of polo-like kinases PLK1, 2, and 3. The inhibition of PLKs in nucleated cells induces apoptosis by perturbing the cell cycle with consequent engagement of mitotic catastrophe. BI2536 is being tested as chemotherapy in various phase I/II/III clinical trials.

Natural polyphenols are widely reported to have a large range of pharmacological properties, especially antioxidant activities and free radical scavenging capacities. In this study, we investigate the effects of naringin, chlorogenic acid, and quercetin mixtures (NCQ) on renal fibrosis in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic aged rats and its underlying mechanisms for ten consecutive weeks. The oxidative defense system in the kidneys of treated rats was found to be improved.

The performance of a pilot-scale membrane bioreactor (MBR) system for the treatment of textile wastewater was investigated. The MBR was continuously operated for 7 months. Very high treatment efficiencies were achieved (color, 100%; chemical oxygen demand (COD), 98%; biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5), 96%; suspended solids (SS), 100%).

We previously reported the production of high yields of hydroxytyrosol through the bioconversion of tyrosol. In the present work, hydroxytyrosol was subjected to the lipase catalyzed acylation aiming for the recovery of more lipophilic esters that might be easily incorporated in cosmetic and food preparations. Hydroxytyrosyl acetate and hydroxytyrosyl oleate were produced with respective molar esterification yields of 98% and 78%.

BUPM4 is a Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. kurstaki strain, isolated from Tunisian soil, producing an original bacteriocin named Bacthuricin F4. The optimization of the latter production conditions was carried out under several physicochemical conditions.
