The aim of this study is to verify the correlation between hemoglobin (Hb) and hematocrit (Ht) levels with phase angle (PhA) values in patients with cancer of the gastrointestinal tract and accessory digestive organs. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 82 patients (38 females/44 males) diagnosed with cancer of gastrointestinal tract and accessory organs of digestion. Hb (g/dL) and Ht (%) levels were assessed by the cyanomethemoglobin and microhematocrit methods, respectively.

This study aimed to present educational interventions in the context of the Education Program through PET-Health Interprofessionality (PET-I), carried out in teaching and in healthcare service of a municipality of Goiás state, based on the analysis of focus groups and portfolios made by participants. A descriptive exploratory study with a qualitative approach was carried out, based on the theoretical-conceptual and methodological foundations of interprofessional education, from August 2019 to November 2020. It was observed that students perceived participation in PET-I as an opportunity to interact with other professions, to associate theory with practice and to act as leading actors.

Objectives: Dietary strategies to improve arachidonic acid:eicosapentaenoic acid (AA:EPA) ratios are of interest due to potential reductions in inflammation and oxidative stress following exercise. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of a novel dietary intervention, that is, the ingestion of 30 g of dark chocolate, on blood lipid profiles and gut microbiota composition in elite male soccer players.
Methods: Professional male soccer players were randomly assigned to the experimental group (DC) provided with 30 g of dark chocolate or to the control group (WC), provided with 30 g of white chocolate, for 30 days.

Therapies to prevent osteoporosis are relevant since it is one of the most common non-communicable human diseases in the world and the most prevalent bone disorder in adults. Since jaboticaba peel extract (JPE) added to the culture medium enhanced the osteogenic potential of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived from osteoporotic rats, we hypothesized that JPE prevents the development of ovariectomy-induced osteoporosis. Ovariectomized rats were treated with either JPE (30 mg/kg of body weight) or its vehicle for 90 days, starting 7 days after the ovariectomy.

The Glycine Transporter Type 1 (GlyT1) significantly impacts central nervous system functions, influencing glycinergic and glutamatergic neurotransmission. Bitopertin, the first GlyT1 inhibitor in clinical trials, was developed for schizophrenia treatment but showed limited efficacy. Despite this, bitopertin's repositioning could advance treating various pathologies.

Cancer stem cells (CSC), a small population of neoplastic cells, are associated with worse prognosis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the expression of ALDH1, CD117, CD133 and OCT4; potential markers of CSC; and their associations with the prognosis of women diagnosed with cervical cancer. This retrospective cohort study included 126 women diagnosed with cervical cancer whose biopsies were analyzed by immunohistochemistry.

Hemodialysis has a detrimental effect on fat-free mass (FFM) and muscle strength over time. Thus, we aimed to evaluate the effect of creatine supplementation on the body composition and Malnutrition-Inflammation Score (MIS) in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing hemodialysis. An exploratory 1-year balanced, placebo-controlled, and double-blind design was conducted with hemodialysis patients (≥18 years).

Human bocaparvoviruses (HBoVs) belong to the Parvoviridae family, being currently classified into four species (HBoV1-4). These viruses have been found in association with respiratory and gastroenteric symptoms, as well as in asymptomatic individuals. This study aimed to investigate the occurrence of HBoVs in infants under 5 months old admitted to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) during the COVID-19 pandemic (between March 2021 and March 2022).

The "Lysis and Concentration Technique" (LCTe) involves lysing red blood cells and concentrating parasites to increase the chances of visualization in low parasitemia and in scenarios of evaluators with less knowledge. The lysis of red blood cells reduced the time of diagnosis by 21 s, showing that the effect produced by the treatment is comparable to the effect of the experience in parasitological examination. In addition, the concentration of parasites was 39.

Like other phthalates, diethyl phthalate (DEP) is considered as a contaminant of emerging concern (CEC) due to its ease in migrating from a package to water and food, and hence contaminate consumers, being metabolized and excreted in the urine. Its presence has a negative impact on aquatic ecosystems, especially with respect to disruption of the endocrine system and to reproductive disorders in humans. It mainly enters water bodies via sewage effluents from effluent treatment plants, due to its incomplete or inefficient removal.

The diversity of eukaryotic and prokaryotic communities has been assessed by morphological and genetic approaches, which are used to characterize the microbiota in different environments. Here, planktonic prokaryotic and eukaryotic communities of the Araguaia River, located in the Central region of Brazil, were analyzed based on metabarcoding analysis of rRNA genes to evaluate the diversity of these groups in tropical floodplain lakes. Also, we tested their spatial concordance throughout the Araguaia river.

This study aimed to assess the effect of combining amitraz with essential oils (EOs) from Thymus vulgaris and Lippia sidoides, as well as the monoterpenes thymol and thymol acetate, on Rhipicephalus microplus in laboratory conditions, and to select the most effective combination for testing in field conditions. The chemical analysis showed that EOs were mainly composed of monoterpenes, with thymol and p-cymene as the major compounds. In larval (LIT) and adult (AIT) immersion tests using different concentrations of the oils and terpenes mixed with amitraz, the results showed that both EOs and thymol improved the efficacy of amitraz against larvae and engorged females of R.

This study aims to investigate the effect of the preparation of solid dispersions using supercritical CO (scCO) on the physicochemical properties and the performance of supramolecular gels based on polymer-cyclodextrin (CD) interactions (named poly(pseudo)rotaxanes, PPR) envisaging a transdermal administration. Solid dispersions containing Soluplus, the antihypertensive drug carvedilol (CAR), and CD (αCD or HPβCD) were prepared and characterized by HPLC, XRPD, FTIR, and DSC. PPRs prepared from solid dispersions (SCF gels) and the corresponding physical mixtures (PM gels) were analyzed regarding rheology, morphology, in vitro drug diffusion, and ex vivo drug skin permeation.
