Background: By 2025, an estimated three-quarters of the global population aged 60 and older will live in Latin American and Caribbean countries (LAC), leading to a rise in age-related conditions. The main goal of the Panama Aging Research Initiative - Health Disparities (PARI-HD) research program is to create a platform for multidisciplinary clinical studies that focus on mental health and its diseases such as age-related cognitive decline. This platform would generate a large amount of clinical, neuropsychological, lifestyle, genetic and biomarker data following standardized research protocols.

Cognitive Neuroscience Centre, University of San Andres, Victoria, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Background: Dementia impacts the way individuals perceive and describe everyday events. Alzheimer's disease (AD) notably affects processing of entities manifested by nouns, while behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD) often presents a detached, third-person perspective. Yet, the potential of natural language processing tools (NLP) to detect these variations in spontaneous speech remains explored.

Background: Neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS), including depression and circadian rhythm disruptions, are early non-cognitive markers along the Alzheimer's Disease (AD) continuum. These pathological states are thought to resemble AD pathogenesis, both of which are characterized by a marked decline in adult hippocampal neurogenesis.
Method: 96 elderly participants divided into three groups based on the global depression scale, neuropsychiatric inventory, clinical dementia rating, and mini-mental status examination.

Background: We are conducting a biomarker-based study to describe the demographic and biomarker profiles of Panamanians. The objective of this report is to present the main findings on CSF, genetic and serological biomarkers' distribution and their association with cognition in a cohort of elderly people in Panama.
Method: Informed consent was applied to all participants, demographic data, medical history, and neuropsychological and functional status were collected, and non-fasting blood samples were obtained.

Background: Co-morbid Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology is a major risk factor for cognitive impairment (CI) in PD, but whether and how AD co-pathology affects the clinical phenotype of PD-CI is incompletely understood. Recently validated plasma biomarkers for AD pathology, such as ptau217, hold great promise to revolutionize the diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases. Here, we used plasma ptau217 to detect AD co-pathology in a well-characterized cohort of PD patients with CI and examine its associations with APOE4 genotype, cognitive profile, and cerebral hypometabolism on FDG-PET.

Cognition plays a central role in the diagnosis and characterization of dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). However, the complex associations among cognitive deficits in different domains in DLB are largely unknown. To characterize these associations, we investigated and compared the cognitive connectome of DLB patients, healthy controls (HC), and Alzheimer's disease patients (AD).

Unlabelled: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a pathology that mainly affects the young population, causing irreversible disability without treatment. The national multiple sclerosis program improves access to diagnosis, treatment, and prognostic of patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS).
Aim: Describe the biggest cohort of patients with RRMS in the Chilean public health system, analyze the impact of the national program in the clinical evolution and the diagnostic opportunity (time in years between the first outbreak and entry into the program) before and after 2010, date of incorporation of the pathology to the explicit health guarantees program (GES) of the Ministry of Health (MINSAL).

Objectives: To characterize the serum cytokine profile in myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated disease (MOGAD) at onset and during follow-up and assess their utility for predicting relapses and disability.
Methods: This retrospective multicentric cohort study included patients aged 16 years and older meeting MOGAD 2023 criteria, with serum samples collected at baseline (≤3 months from disease onset) and follow-up (≥6 months from the baseline), and age-matched and time to sampling-matched patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). Eleven cytokines were assessed using the ELLA system.

Purpose: Stroke is one of the leading causes of disability with life-long implications requiring assessment and treatment of several functional domains. This review identifies the results from research into music-based interventions (MBIs), including music therapy (MT), for executive functions (EFs) and emotional well-being (EWB) in adults with stroke and highlights opportunities for clinical practice and future research.
Methods: APA PsycInfo (EBSCOhost), and CINAHL (EBSCOhost) were searched, in addition to grey literature.

Introduction: Since mechanical thrombectomy has allowed ischemic stroke thrombi retrieval, its exhaustive study has involved a better knowledge of physiopathological processes implied in its formation.
Development: Thrombotic pathways involved in the different vascular beds shared common mechanisms conditioning difficulties in the identification of specific patterns associated with stroke etiology. Other factors as clot formation time, associated inflammatory status or activation of additional immune and coagulation pathways [Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) delivery, platelet aggregation, endothelial activation and VonWillebrand Factor release] have been described as determinants in thrombus characteristics.

After peripheral nerve injury, axon and myelin regeneration are key events for optimal clinical improvements. We have previously shown that early bone marrow mononuclear cell (BMMC) transplantation exerts beneficial effects on myelin regeneration. In the present study, we analyze whether there is a temporal window in which BMMCs migrate more efficiently to damaged nerves while still retaining their positive effects.

Objective: Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a surgical technique that alleviates motor symptoms in Parkinson's disease. Surgically implanted microelectrodes stimulate the basal ganglia to improve patients' symptoms. One of the training challenges for neurophysiologists is to identify during surgery the target area of the brain in which the electrodes must be implanted.

Cortical hypometabolism on FDG-PET is a well-established neuroimaging biomarker of cognitive impairment in Parkinson's disease (PD), but its pathophysiologic origins are incompletely understood. Cholinergic basal forebrain (cBF) degeneration is a prominent pathological feature of PD-related cognitive impairment and may contribute to cortical hypometabolism through cholinergic denervation of cortical projection areas. Here, we investigated in-vivo associations between subregional cBF volumes on 3T-MRI, cortical hypometabolism on [F]FDG-PET, and cognitive deficits in a cohort of 95 PD participants with varying degrees of cognitive impairment.

Childhood and adolescent abuse (MTIA) is a serious and complex global public health problem with potentially devastating effects on the physical and mental health and well-being of people throughout their lives. This is a health issue that, although it was not recognized until a few decades ago, has very serious consequences on the lives of these future adult children and their families. By adopting various forms and modalities (violence, abuse, neglect and others), it is highly prevalent and has serious repercussions on personal development and both mental and physical morbidity.
