The Asociación Española de Pancreatología (AESPANC), Asociación Española de Gastroenterología (AEG), and Sociedad Española de Patología Digestiva (SEPD) have developed a consensus document on the standards and recommendations they consider essential for the organization of pancreas units (PUs) within gastroenterology services (GSs) in order to conduct their activities in an efficient, high-quality manner. The consensus document defines PUs and lays down standards relating to their organization, structure, service portfolio, processes, and teaching and research activities. Standards have been categorized as mandatory (requirements to be met to qualify for certification by the scientific societies responsible for the standards) or recommendations.

Purpose: It is unclear whether preoperative serum uric acid (SUA) elevation may play a role in the development of acute kidney injury (AKI) associated with cardiac surgery (CSA-AKI). We conducted a cohort study to evaluate the influence of preoperative hyperuricemia on AKI in patients at high risk for developing SC-AKI.
Design: Multicenter prospective international cohort study.

SARS-CoV-2 infection (COVID-19) has had a significant impact on transplant activity in our country. Mortality and the risk of complications associated with COVID-19 in kidney transplant recipients (KT) were expected to be higher due to their immunosuppressed condition and the frequent associated comorbidities. Since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020 we have rapidly improved our knowledge about the epidemiology, clinical features and management of COVID-19 post-transplant, resulting in a better prognosis for our patients.

Introduction: Post transplant lymphoproliferative disorders (PTLD) are heterogeneous lymphoid proliferations in recipients of solid organs which seem to be related to Epstein Barr Virus (EBV). The use of antilymphocyte antibodies, EBV seronegativity in the recipient, acute rejection and CMV infection have been identified as classical risk factors.
Material Y Methods: We have studied in a retrospective observational study, the incidence of PTLD in a period of 22 years, its relationship with EBV, presence of classical risk factors and outcome in 21546 simple adult renal transplant recipients from cadaveric and living donors, transplanted in 21 hospitals from 1990 to 2009.

The 2021 guidelines on the prevention of vascular disease (VD) in clinical practice published by the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and supported by 13 other European scientific societies recognize the key role of screening for chronic kidney disease (CKD) in the prevention of VD. Vascular risk in CKD is categorized based on measurements of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and urine albumin to creatinine ratio (ACR). Thus, moderate CKD is associated with a high vascular risk and severe CKD with a very high vascular risk requiring therapeutic action, and there is no need to apply other vascular risk scores when vascular risk is already very high due to CKD.

Unlabelled: Tumor-necrosis-factor-α inhibitors (anti-TNF-α) are associated with an increased risk of tuberculosis (TB) disease, primarily due to reactivation of latent TB infection (LTBI). We assessed the performance of parallel LTBI screening with tuberculin skin test (TST) and QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube assays (QFT-GIT) before anti-TNF-α treatment in children with immune-mediated inflammatory disorders in a low TB-burden setting. We conducted a multicenter cohort study involving 17 pediatric tertiary centers in Spain.

Background: The clinical heterogeneity of COVID-19 suggests the existence of different phenotypes with prognostic implications. We aimed to analyze comorbidity patterns in critically ill COVID-19 patients and assess their impact on in-hospital outcomes, response to treatment and sequelae.
Methods: Multicenter prospective/retrospective observational study in intensive care units of 55 Spanish hospitals.

Introduction And Objectives: Transaxillary access (TXA) has become the most widely used alternative to transfemoral access (TFA) in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). The aim of this study was to compare total in-hospital and 30-day mortality in patients included in the Spanish TAVI registry who were treated by TXA or TFA access.
Methods: We analyzed data from patients treated with TXA or TFA and who were included in the TAVI Spanish registry.

Difficulties in the collection of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) from Fanconi anemia (FA) patients have limited the gene therapy in this disease. We have investigated (ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT02931071) the safety and efficacy of filgrastim and plerixafor for mobilization of HSPCs and collection by leukapheresis in FA patients.
