[Bronchospasm and flushing after vaccination with 23 serotype pneumococcal polysaccharide in chronic patients].

Objective: To describe the clinical-epidemiological characteristics of a series of suspected systemic adverse reactions registered with the 23 serotype pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PNEUMOVAX23®). Calculate the cumulative incidence of the reaction and know if similar and/or compatible cases have been described in the scientific literature or in pharmacovigilance.

Methods: Observational and retrospective study realized between 01/12/2015 and 30/09/2017 in the Vaccines Unit of an autonomic reference hospital.

Pre-clinical development of -based nanovaccines as immunotherapies for solid tumours: insights from melanoma.

Gold glyconanoparticles loaded with the listeriolysin O peptide 91-99 (GNP-LLO), a bacterial peptide with anti-metastatic properties, are vaccine delivery platforms facilitating immune cell targeting and increasing antigen loading. Here, we present proof of concept analyses for the consideration of GNP-LLO nanovaccines as a novel immunotherapy for cutaneous melanoma. Studies using mouse models of subcutaneous melanoma indicated that GNP-LLO nanovaccines recruite and modulate dendritic cell (DC) function within the tumour, alter tumour immunotolerance inducing melanoma-specific cytotoxic T cells, cause complete remission and improve survival.

JAK-STAT inhibitors for the treatment of immunomediated diseases.

The Janus kinase (JAK) pathway is implicated in the pathogenesis of many inflammatory and autoimmune diseases including rheumatoid arthritis (RA), psoriasis, and inflammatory bowel disease. There are a lot of proinflammatory cytokines involved in such diseases using this pathway to transduce intracellular signals. In the last years, JAK inhibitors (jakinibs) have appeared with a great success, showing that these kinds of drugs have a great applicability in clinical practice.

Gastrointestinal lesions in chronic kidney disease patients with anaemia.

Introduction: Despite the frequency with which anaemia is present in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), its relationship with gastrointestinal lesions has not been studied.

Method: A cross-sectional, analytical, observational study involving one year of recruitment was carried out to determine the prevalence of endoscopic gastrointestinal lesions and associated risk factors in asymptomatic patients with chronic kidney disease stages 1-5 and anaemia who had a positive qualitative immunochemical faecal occult blood test.

Ceftolozane/tazobactam for the treatment of multidrug resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa: experience from the Balearic Islands.

A prospective, descriptive observational study of consecutive patients treated with ceftolozane/tazobactam in the reference hospital of the Balearic Islands (Spain), between May 2016 and September 2017, was performed. Objective: Hazardous drugs presence at Hospital Pharmacies has been demonstrated in numerous studies. This study aims to analyze the  presence and levels of hazardous drugs at Spanish Hospital Pharmacies and the influence of different aspects on them.

Method: We developed a cross test at Hospital Pharmacies hazardous drugs  compounding surfaces of ten Spanish hospitals.

Objective: Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) are widely used but they increase the risk of gastrointestinal haemorrage among other adverse effects. The objective of this study was to compare potentially inappropriate medications (PIM) by NSAIDs using the original Beers Criteria, a global reference for evaluating elderly people's prescriptions, and the Spanish adaptation of the same; and the relation between PIM of NSAIDs and gastrointestinal bleeding.

Methods: The study was a retrospective observational study carried out located in a primary care district in the province of de Murcia, south-eastern Spain.

Objective: To describe the current knowledge and management of aging and  pharmacotherapeutic complexity in HIV + patients.

Method: A review of literature was carried out, including articles, originals or  reviews, published in English or Spanish, from 2007 to 2017, which analysed the aging and pharmacotherapeutic complexity in HIV + patients. The terms  «Polypharmacy»/»Polypharmacy», «Aging»/»Aging», «Frailty»/»Fragility»,  «Pharmacotherapeutic Complexity»/»Medication Regimen Complexity» and  «HIV»/"HIV» were combined.

Nosocomial ventriculitis caused by a meticillin- and linezolid-resistant clone of Staphylococcus epidermidis in neurosurgical patients.

Background: Postneurosurgical ventriculitis is mainly caused by coagulase-negative staphylococci. The rate of linezolid-resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis (LRSE) is increasing worldwide.

Aims: To report clinical, epidemiological and microbiological data from a series of ventriculitis cases caused by LRSE in a Spanish hospital between 2013 and 2016.

Economic impact of the new oral treatments for multiple sclerosis.

Introduction: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic disease affecting the central nervous system and is characterised by inflammation, demyelination, gliosis, and axonal damage. The introduction of dimethyl fumarate and teriflunomide has led to an increase in the number of alternative first-line therapies for MS. The objective of this study was to evaluate the economic impact of the incorporation of new oral therapies at the reference unit (CSUR) at Hospital Universitario Puerta de Hierro Majadahonda.

Pharmacological interactions of monoclonal antibodies.

The pharmacological interactions of biological agents are not well known. Because biologic agents are not metabolised by cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes and do not interact with cell membrane transporters, it is generally perceived that they are free from interactions with small molecule drugs. However, the clearance of biological agents varies depending on the modulation of the immune response or by either increasing or reducing the expression of target cells of the biological agents, which can occur through the action of multiple synthetic chemical agents.

Complementary medicine use in cancer patients receiving intravenous antineoplastic treatment.

Objective: Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) use has grown considerably, although there is little research on the topic in Spain. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of complementary medicine use in adult cancer patients at the same time as they were receiving conventional treatment in a Spanish referral cancer centre.
