Objectives: The reference range for lacosamide (LCM) has been updated from 1 to 10 mg/L to 10 to 20 mg/L. Historically, LCM range was defined from trough-level measurements, but the newer ranges were obtained from peak-level measurements. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the relationship between LCM plasma levels higher than 10 mg/L and the incidence of adverse effects.

Introduction: Brolucizumab is a novel anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) drug administered in a fixed regimen of 8 or 12 weeks which, in the HAWK and HARRIER studies, was shown not to be inferior to aflibercept with respect to the best corrected visual acuity, with a less burdensome treatment regimen. The aim of the analysis was to compare the direct healthcare costs of both anti-VEGF as a treatment in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration.
Material And Methods: A cost minimization analysis was performed under a 25-year time horizon and considering the drug costs, administration, follow-up tests, and management of adverse events.

Antimicrobial stewardship programs (ASPs) have been shown to be effective and safe, contributing to reducing and adjusting antimicrobial use in clinical practice. Such programs not only reduce antibiotic selection pressure and therefore the selection of multidrug-resistant strains, but also reduce the potential deleterious effects for individual patients and even improve the prognosis by adjusting the choice of drug and dosage, and lessening the risk of adverse effects and interactions. Gram-negative bacilli (GNB), particularly multidrug-resistant strains (MDR-GNB), represent the main infectious problem in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and are therefore a target for ASPs.

Objectives: Second-generation direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) have shown high efficacy in the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections in clinical trials. This study aimed to estimate the effectiveness in real-life conditions and their capacity to eliminate HCV infection in the general population.
Methods: In this observational cohort study, patients with active HCV infection who commenced DAA treatment between 2015 and 2020 in Navarre, Spain, were studied.

Growing evidence shows that nerves play an active role in cancer development and progression by altering crucial molecular pathways and cell functions. Conversely, the use of neurotropic drugs, such as tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), may modulate these molecular signals with a therapeutic purpose based on a direct antitumoral effect and beyond the TCA use to treat neuropathic pain in oncology patients. In this review, we discuss the TCAs' safety and their central effects against neuropathic pain in cancer, and the antitumoral effects of TCAs in in vitro and preclinical studies, as well as in the clinical setting.

Chronic Norovirus infection is particularly challenging in patients with common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) because of their inability to achieve viral clearance and the risk of developing enteropathy leading to intestinal villous atrophy and malabsorption. To date, therapeutic options to eliminate the virus are limited and only ribavirin has been shown to induce viral clearance in norovirus enteropathy associated with CVID. We report a case of a 48-year-old female patient diagnosed with CVID enteropathy possibly related to norovirus infection who failed a ribavirin-based therapy despite dosage optimization through drug plasma level monitoring.

In the initiation of a ketogenic diet and when a doctor prescribes a new medication, it is necessary to select the most appropriate pharmaceutical form so that the supply of excipients in the form of carbohydrates from the drugs is minimized. Objectives: the goal of the present paper was to compile a list of carbohydrate and caloric contents in antiepileptic drugs commonly used in pediatric neurology.

Oxidative stress has become a major concern in the field of spermatology, and one of the possible solutions to this acute problem would be the use of antioxidant protection; however, more studies are required in this field, as highly contradictory results regarding the addition of antioxidants have been obtained. Vitamin E is a powerful biological antioxidant, but its low stability and high hydrophobicity limit its application in spermatology, making the use of organic solvents necessary, which renders spermatozoa practically motionless. Keeping this in mind, we propose the use of hydrogels (HVEs) and nanoemulsions (NVEs), alone or in combination, as carriers for the controlled release of vitamin E, thus, improving its solubility and stability and preventing oxidative stress in sperm cells.
