Objective: The treatment and prevention of delirium in the intensive care unit (ICU) have gained significant importance in patient care in recent years. Some studies have linked delirium with increased risks of mortality, prolonged hospital stay, and more days of mechanical ventilation. This study aims to analyse the use of psychotropic drugs initiated in the ICU and their continuation upon hospital discharge, as well as to evaluate their contribution to polypharmacy and associated adverse clinical effects.

Reconstruction of the tip of the nose following the excision of skin cancer is a cosmetic and surgical challenge. We propose using a crescentic nasojugal flap, also known as a perialar crescentic advancement flap, to repair such defects. We present a series of 13 cases in which cutaneous carcinoma (mostly basal cell carcinoma) was excised from the lateral nasal tip with clear margins and the defect repaired with a crescentic nasojugal flap.

Targeted temperature management (TTM) through induced hypothermia (between 32-36 C) is currently regarded as a first-line treatment during the management of post-cardiac arrest patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The aim of TTM is to afford neuroprotection and reduce secondary neurological damage caused by anoxia. Despite the large body of evidence on its benefits, the TTM is still little used in Spain.

The rapid analysis of genomic data is providing effective mutational confirmation in patients with clinical and biochemical hallmarks of a specific disease. This is the case for nonketotic hyperglycinemia (NKH), a Mendelian disorder causing seizures in neonates and early-infants, primarily due to mutations in the GLDC gene. However, understanding the impact of missense variants identified in this gene is a major challenge for the application of genomics into clinical practice.

Objectives: Most of the studies that evaluate the association between red blood cell distribution width (RDW) and mortality assess it on a single occasion instead of doing so through serial measurements. Very few studies have investigated repeated measurements of RDW and its prognostic value, and most of them are focused on patients with cardiovascular diseases. RDW is a dynamic value so we aimed at determining the prognostic value of sequential RDW assessment in the last years of life in patients enrolled in a Department of Geriatrics.
