[Detection of nephrotoxics and dose adjustment in patients with low glomerular filtration rate in community pharmacy: methodology].

Farm Comunitarios

October 2023

Farmacéutico comunitario en Valencia. Profesor asociado Universidad Cardenal Herrera - CEU. Universidad Cardenal Herrera España.

Abstract: Chronic kidney disease is a prevalent problem without specific treatment. Early detection is important and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) is a very affordable test that can be performed in community pharmacies. If present, it is very important not to further damage the kidney by avoiding the use of nephrotoxic drugs and adjusting the doses of other renal elimination drugs and the community pharmacy is very well positioned to do this.

Residual cardiovascular risk of lipid origin. Components and pathophysiological aspects.

Clin Investig Arterioscler

October 2019

Unidad de Lípidos, Servicio de Medicina Interna, Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón, Universidad Complutense, Madrid, España. Electronic address:

There is no doubt about the relationship between LDL-c and cardiovascular risk, as well as about the benefits of statin treatment. Once the objective of LDL-c has been achieved, the evidences that demonstrate the persistence of a high cardiovascular risk, a concept called residual risk, are notable. The residual risk of lipid origin is based on atherogenic dyslipidemia, characterized by an increase in triglycerides and triglyceride-rich lipoproteins, a decrease in HDL-c and qualitative alterations in LDL particles.

Introduction: Although there has been an improved management of Invasive Candidiasis in the last decade, controversial issues still remain, especially in the diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.

Objectives: We sought to identify the core clinical knowledge and to achieve high level agreement recommendations required to care for critically ill adult patients with Invasive Candidiasis.

Methods: Prospective Spanish survey reaching consensus by the Delphi technique, anonymously conducted by electronic e-mail in a first term to 25 national multidisciplinary experts in invasive fungal infections from five national scientific societies, including Intensivists, Anesthesiologists, Microbiologists, Pharmacologists and Infectious Disease Specialists, responding to 47 questions prepared by a coordination group after a strict review of the literature in the last five years.

The tough [correction of turf] battles with other specialties that tend to take control of the radiological practice and some of our areas of interest are one of the most important problems that Radiology must face at the present time. Interventional Radiology is the last one and the more recent example of this phenomenon that spreads world-wide. Far from defeatist attitudes, we must learn from our past mistakes to turn this scenario into an opportunity to evolve towards a more competitive and updated specialty according to our time.

Objective: The aim of this work is to determine the calibration factor for Sm-153 and evaluate the influence of the geometry in the activity measurements in order to administer accurately the activity to the patient.

Methods: The calibration factor for Sm-153 was determinated using the Sm-153 sources commonly used in clinical practice and the calibrator response in a known calibration setting. The geometry correction factor for the vial and the plastic syringe was calculated using the real activity indicated by the manufacturer and the activity measured in the vial and in the plastic syringe.

Genomic- and proteomic-based imaging will enable the selection of populations and individuals "at risk"of suffering a certain disease before the clinical symptoms appear, identifying the existence, location, and extension of the bases of the disease, stratifying the risk, and making it possible to carry out and control treatments designed for each patient. In order to be efficacious, these molecular imaging techniques must generate both functional and structural information. The use of imaging probes together with advanced equipment allows numerous molecular complexes and cellular structures to be seen.

Different studies have shown that some clinical events, particularly cardiovascular and thrombotic events, show a regularity in its appearance. The aim of our study was to analyse the possible existence of seasonal periodicity in the incidence of the vascular access thrombosis in patients on chronic haemodialysis. Prospectively, we collected information of 164 patients with 250 episodes of vascular access thrombosis referred to our hospital from january 1995 to december 1999.

Context: Pulmonary tuberculosis with negative sputum bacilloscopy involves diagnostic difficulties when there are not available liquid culture media due to the slow growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in the traditional culture media, and also due to the need for carrying out invasive examinations.

Objective: Evaluate the high resolution computerized tomography findings (HRCT) in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis and negative bacilloscopy of sputum.

Method: Prospectively 28 patients (12 with active tuberculosis and 16 with inactive tuberculosis) were evaluated through HRCT, assessing the following findings: centrolobular nodules, multiple branched linear structures, macronodules, cavitation, consolidation, enlargement of interlobular septums, ground-glass change, bronchiectases, emphysema, broncovascular distortion, fibrotic changes, calcified mediastinal adenopathies, parenchymous calcification, pleural enlargement, and pleural effusion.
