Monitoring of lamotrigine levels is recommended in epilepsy. However, in bipolar disorders (BD), no study has described the therapeutic range in daily practice and factors being associated to it. We used retrospective data of individuals with BD, treated with lamotrigine, and included in the FondaMental Advanced Centers of Expertise for Bipolar Disorders cohort.

April 2024

Santé publique France, French National Public Health Agency, Non Communicable Diseases and Trauma Division, F-94415 Saint-Maurice, France.

Introduction: Although hospitalisation for COVID-19 is associated with a higher post-discharge risk of mood disorders, including major depressive disorder (MDD) and bipolar disorder (BD), this risk has not been compared to that following hospitalisation for a reason other than COVID-19.

Methods: Using data from France's National Health Data System (SNDS) database, we compared patients hospitalised for mood disorders in the 12 months following COVID-19/another reason hospitalisation.

Results: 96,313 adult individuals were hospitalised for COVID-19, and 2,979,775 were hospitalised for another reason.

Auditory verbal hallucinations (AVH) are experienced by approximately 70 % of patients with schizophrenia and are frequently associated with high levels of distress. Therefore, alleviating hallucinations is an important therapeutic challenge. However, for prescribing a personalized treatment adapted to the patient, an accurate and detailed assessment of AVH is necessary.

Introduction: Increased salience of drug-related cues over non-drug reinforcers can drive drug use and contribute to tobacco use disorder (TUD). An important scientific and clinical goal is to effectively measure this elevated drug-seeking behavior in TUD. However, most TUD assessments rely on self-reported cravings and cigarette consumption, not providing an objective measure of the impact of drug-cues on biasing behavior towards drugs.

An effective way to quantify metacognitive performance is to ask participants to estimate their confidence in the accuracy of their response during a cognitive task. A recent meta-analysis raised the issue that most assessments of metacognitive performance in schizophrenia spectrum disorders may be confounded with cognitive deficits, which are known to be present in this population. Therefore, it remains unclear whether the reported metacognitive deficits are metacognitive in nature or rather inherited from cognitive deficits.

Article Synopsis
  • Previous research indicates that individuals with treatment-resistant depression (TRD) experience significant cognitive impairments, but the progression of these impairments based on treatment response has been understudied.
  • The study analyzed 131 TRD patients over a year to compare cognitive performance changes in those who responded to treatment versus those who did not.
  • Findings showed persistent cognitive impairments in both groups, but responders exhibited more significant improvements, suggesting the need for cognitive remediation to enhance their daily functioning post-treatment.
