With the increasing demand for data exchange between nearby devices in proximity-based services, enhancing the security of wireless mutual broadcast (WMB) networks is crucial. However, WMB networks are inherently vulnerable to eavesdropping due to the open broadcast nature of their communication. This paper investigates the improvement of secrecy performance in random-access-based WMB (RA-WMB) networks by integrating physical layer security (PLS) techniques with hybrid duplex (HBD) operations under a stochastic geometry framework.

This study introduces a T cell enrichment process, capitalizing on the size differences between activated and unactivated T cells to facilitate the isolation of activated, transducible T cells. By employing multidimensional double spiral (MDDS) inertial sorting, our approach aims to remove unactivated or not fully activated T cells post-activation, consequently enhancing the efficiency of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell manufacturing. Our findings reveal that incorporating a simple, label-free, and continuous MDDS sorting step yields a purer T cell population, exhibiting significantly enhanced viability and CAR-transducibility (with up to 85% removal of unactivated T cells and approximately 80% recovery of activated T cells); we found approximately 2-fold increase in CAR transduction efficiency for a specific sample, escalating from ∼10% to ∼20%, but this efficiency highly depends on the original T cell sample as MDDS sorting would be more effective for samples possessing a higher proportion of unactivated T cells.

Although laminate structures are widely used in electrostatic capacitors, unavoidable heterogeneous interfaces often deteriorate the dielectric properties by impeding film crystallization. In this study, a TiO/ZrO/TiO (TZT) laminate structure, where upper-TiO deposited on the heterogeneous interface was crystallized by plasma-assisted atomic layer annealing (ALA), was investigated. ALA effectively induced the phase transition of the upper-TiO from the amorphous or anatase phase to the rutile phase, leading to an increase in the dielectric constant, whereas the ZrO blocking interlayer maintained the amorphous phase owing to the extremely localized effect of ALA.

We present quad-layered reflective structural color filters generating vivid additive primary colors by controlling a mode number in a Fabry-Perot (FP) cavity and an anti-reflective (AR) coating layer, thus accomplishing high spectral contrast which is highly demanded in creating sharp colors. The reflection brightness of fabricated structural color filters is over 78% and a color gamut is comparable to the standard color gamut (sRGB). Higher-order resonant modes are exploited yielding a narrow passband with strong suppression of the reflection at shorter and longer wavelength ranges for a green color, while red and blue colors are produced by employing fundamental resonant modes.

We have developed a fluorescent probe DBT-Cl ((E)-2-(2-(4-(diphenylamino)benzylidene) hydrazinyl)-N,N,N-trimethyl-2-oxoethan-1-aminium chloride) for ClO with an aggregation-induced emission (AIE) strategy depending on solvent polarity. DBT-Cl possessed a prominent solvatochromic emission property with intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) from the TPA (triphenylamine) to the amide group, which was studied by spectroscopic analysis and DFT calculations. These unique AIE properties of DBT-Cl led to the recognition of ClO with high fluorescent selectivity.

Considerable attention has been drawn to the use of volatile two-terminal devices relying on the Mott transition for the stochastic generation of probabilistic bits (p-bits) in emerging probabilistic computing. To improve randomness and endurance of bit streams provided by these devices, delicate control of the transient evolution of switchable domains is required to enhance stochastic p-bit generation. Herein, it is demonstrated that the randomness of p-bit streams generated via the consecutive pulse inputs of pump-probe protocols can be increased by the deliberate incorporation of metal nanoparticles (NPs), which influence the transient dynamics of the nanoscale metallic phase in VO Mott switches.

To achieve the successful separation of emulsions containing fine dispersed droplets and low volume fractions, a membrane with pore sizes comparable to or smaller than the droplet size is typically required. Although this approach is effective, its utilization is limited to the separation of emulsions with relatively large droplets. To overcome this limitation, a secondary membrane can be formed on the primary membrane to reduce pore size, but this can also be time-consuming and costly.

Powdered activated carbon (PAC) has been extensively used as an effective adsorbent. Despite its excellent adsorption ability, PAC has drawbacks, including difficulty in filtration and reactivation after use, limitations of mass transfer in deeper areas because of its aggregated powder form, and limited applicability in high-flow systems. To overcome these limitations, we used a three-dimensional (3D) printing system to fabricate PAC into a 3D structure.

Polyhexamethylene guanidine (PHMG) is a guanidine-based chemical that has long been used as an antimicrobial agent. However, recently raised concerns regarding the pulmonary toxicity of PHMG in humans and aquatic organisms have led to research in this area. Along with PHMG, there are concerns about the safety of non-guanidine 5-chloro-2-methylisothiazol-3(2H)-one/2-methylisothiazol-3(2H)-one (CMIT/MIT) in human lungs; however, the safety of such chemicals can be affected by many factors, and it is difficult to rationalize their toxicity.

Studies on the comparison of developmental (neuro) toxicity of parabens are currently limited, and unharmonized concentrations between phenotypic observations and transcriptome analysis hamper the understanding of their differential molecular mechanisms. Thus, developmental toxicity testing was conducted herein using the commonly used methyl- (MtP), ethyl- (EtP), and propyl-parabens (PrP) in zebrafish embryos. With a benchmark dose of 5%, embryonic-mortality-based point-of-departure (M-POD) values of the three parabens were determined, and changes in locomotor behavior were evaluated at concentrations of 0, M-POD/50, M-POD/10, and M-POD, where transcriptome analysis was conducted to explore the underlying neurotoxicity mechanism.
