Objective: Tinnitus may be associated with various brain changes. However, the degenerative changes in patients with tinnitus have not been extensively investigated. We aimed to evaluate degenerative, structural, and functional brain changes in patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) who also suffer from tinnitus.

Unlike necrosis by thermal ablation, irreversible electroporation (IRE) is known to induce apoptosis by disrupting plasma membrane integrity with electric pulses while preserving the structure of blood vessels and bile ducts in liver tissue without a heat sink effect. This study aimed to investigate thermal damage and histopathological effects in the porcine liver by high-frequency electric pulses (5 kHz) which is much higher than the widely used 1 Hz. The electric field and thermal distributions of 5 kHz electric pulses were compared with those of 1 Hz in numerical simulations.

Reactivation of bone lining cells (BLCs) is a crucial mechanism governing the anabolic action of anti-sclerostin antibody (Scl-Ab) via modeling-based bone formation; however, it remains unclear whether this reactivation can be attenuated after persistent administration of Scl-Ab. Here, we aimed to investigate the reproducibility of persistent Scl-Ab administration for the reactivation of BLCs, and to elucidate the relationship between the activity of BLCs and serum levels of N-terminal procollagen type I (P1NP) during chronic Scl-Ab administration. We conducted an osteoblast lineage tracing study.

Anoctamin 5 (Ano5) mutations are responsible for gnathodiaphyseal dysplasia, a rare skeletal syndrome. Despite the close linkage of Ano5 to bone remodeling, the molecular mechanisms underlying the role of Ano5 in bone remodeling remain unknown. In this study, we investigated whether Ano5 regulates osteoblast or osteoclast differentiation to maintain normal bone remodeling.

More-permissive preclinical models may be useful in evaluating antituberculosis regimens for their propensity to select drug-resistant mutants. To evaluate whether acquired rifamycin monoresistance could be recapitulated in mice and, if so, to evaluate the effects of immunodeficiency, intermittent dosing, and drug exposures, athymic nude and BALB/c mice were infected. Controls received daily rifapentine alone or 2 months of rifampin, isoniazid, pyrazinamide, and ethambutol, followed by 4 months of rifampin/isoniazid, either daily or twice weekly with one of two isoniazid doses.

Background And Purpose: Elevated serum uric acid (UA) is known to be associated with stroke. However, there is little information on the association between serum UA levels and cerebral microbleed (CMB), a precursor of stroke. Therefore, we investigated the association between UA and CMB in a general population taking into consideration sex-related differences.

Sclerostin antibody (Scl-Ab) increases osteoblast activity, in part through increasing modeling-based bone formation on previously quiescent surfaces. Histomorphometric studies have suggested that this might occur through conversion of bone lining cells into active osteoblasts. However, direct data demonstrating Scl-Ab-induced conversion of lining cells into active osteoblasts are lacking.
