Izuforant is a selective, and potent histamine H4 receptor (H4R) antagonist developed to treat atopic dermatitis (AD). There is an unmet medical need for therapeutic agents to control inflammation and pruritus. Izuforant is a strong candidate for this task based on the findings of non-clinical studies showing that inhibition of the histamine-mediated signaling pathway via H4R by izuforant results in decreased pruritus and inflammation.

Precise individual muscle segmentation in whole thigh CT scans for sarcopenia assessment using U-net transformer.

The study aims to develop a deep learning based automatic segmentation approach using the UNETR(U-net Transformer) architecture to quantify the volume of individual thigh muscles(27 muscles in 5 groups) for Sarcopenia assessment. By automating the segmentation process, this approach improves the efficiency and accuracy of muscle volume calculation, facilitating a comprehensive understanding of muscle composition and its relationship to Sarcopenia. The study utilized a dataset of 72 whole thigh CT scans from hip fracture patients, annotated by two radiologists.

Position Statement: Postmenopausal Osteoporosis Treatment Strategies in Korea.

Classifying patients with osteoporosis according to fracture risk and establishing adequate treatment strategies is crucial to effectively treat osteoporosis. The Korean Society for Bone and Mineral Research has issued a position statement regarding appropriate treatment strategies for postmenopausal osteoporosis. According to previous fragility fracture history, bone mineral density (BMD) test results, fracture risk assessment tool, and several clinical risk factors, fracture risk groups are classified into low, moderate, high, and very-high-risk groups.

Arthroscopic Reduction and Internal Fixation in Patients with Acetabular Posterior Wall Fractures.

Background: This study aimed to access the radiologic and clinical outcomes after arthroscopic reduction and internal fixation with screws in patients with posterior wall fractures of the acetabulum.

Methods: From May 2013 to December 2019, 13 patients (11 men and 2 women) with posterior wall fractures of the acetabulum were treated with arthroscopic reduction and internal fixation with screws at two medical centers. The mean age at the index operation was 39 years (range, 22-58 years).

As the aging population increases, the number of patients with osteoporosis is gradually rising. Osteoporosis is a metabolic bone disease characterized by low bone mass and the microarchitectural deterioration of bone tissue, resulting in reduced bone strength and an increased risk of low-energy or fragility fractures. Thus, the use of anti-resorptive agents, such as bisphosphonates (BPs), to prevent osteoporotic fractures is growing annually.

Effects of Abdominal Massage for Preventing Acute Postoperative Constipation in Hip Fractures: A Prospective Interventional Study.

Background: This prospective randomized controlled study aimed to determine the effects of abdominal massage on constipation management in elderly patients with hip fractures.

Methods: From August 2017 to December 2018, patients aged above 65 years with hip fractures (n = 88) were randomly assigned to a massage group that received a bowel massage (n = 48) or a control group that did not receive a bowel massage (n = 40). Patients in the bowel massage group received a bowel massage from a trained caregiver after breakfast at approximately 9:00 AM for an hour.

Effects of Bazedoxifene/Vitamin D Combination Therapy on Serum Vitamin D Levels and Bone Turnover Markers in Postmenopausal Women with Osteopenia: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of bazedoxifene/vitamin D combination therapy in preventing osteoporosis in postmenopausal women with osteopenia.

Methods: This was an open-label, multicenter randomized-controlled, phase 4 clinical trial. Women between ages of 55 and 70 years in 9 medical tertiary centers in Korea were enrolled and assigned into 2 groups: an experiment group and a control group.

Position Statement: Exercise Guidelines for Osteoporosis Management and Fall Prevention in Osteoporosis Patients.

Background: The effectiveness of exercise for improving osteoporosis and fall prevention in patients diagnosed with osteoporosis or osteopenia has not been fully summarized. The Korean Society for Bone and Mineral Research and the Korean Society of Exercise Physiology has developed exercise guidelines for patients with osteoporosis or osteopenia and provide evidence-based recommendations.

Methods: A systematic review identified randomized controlled trials (RCT) assessing the effect of resistance, impact, balance, aerobic training, and physical activity in osteoporosis and osteopenia on bone quality, physical performance, quality of life, and fall prevention.

Methods: This study included patients admitted for fragility hip fractures between 2012 and 2021.

Ten to 13-Year Results of Delta Ceramic-on-Ceramic Total Hip Arthroplasty in Patients Less Than 30 Years Old.

Background: We previously reported mid-term results of total hip arthroplasty (THA) using Delta ceramic-on-ceramic (CoC) bearings in 72 patients (86 hips) who were <30 years old. Noise was noted in 8 (9.3%) of the hips, no osteolysis or loosening was detected, and no patient required reoperation.

A 10- to 12-year follow-up study of delta ceramic-on-ceramic total hip arthroplasty.

Background: We previously reported five-to-seven-year results of total hip arthroplasty (THA) with the use of delta ceramic-on-ceramic (CoC) bearing. We conducted an extension study with a CT scan at a minimum of 10 years after surgery.

Methods: From March 2009 to March 2011, 273 patients (310 hips) received cementless THA with delta CoC bearing, porous-coated cup and hydroxyapatite-coated stem.
