Purpose: The prognostic significance of the mean corpuscular volume (MCV) and red cell distribution width (RDW) in patients with malignancy have not been intensely investigated and are largely overlooked. We, therefore, investigated the clinical significance of MCV and RDW in non-metastatic obstructive colorectal cancer (OCRC) patients with a self-expandable metallic stent inserted as a bridge to curative surgery.

Methods: Eighty-five pathological stage II and III OCRC patients were retrospectively evaluated.

This study evaluated the dependence of the signal characteristics of time-spatial labeling inversion pulse (time-SLIP) on flow velocity and tag thickness to depict the pancreatic juice flow by analyzing signal profile using a tube phantom study. The tag edge property was evaluated by edge rise distance (ERD). For various slow flow velocities and tag thicknesses, the signal profile characteristics were evaluated using two indices: the tag center value (R) reduction rate and the total signal value along the tube (T).

Impact of Sarcopenia on Postoperative Complications in Obstructive Colorectal Cancer Patients Who Received Stenting as a Bridge to Curative Surgery.

Objectives: Understanding the relationship between sarcopenia and malignancy is increasingly important since they inevitably affect the aging population. We investigated the clinical significance of sarcopenia in nonmetastatic obstructive colorectal cancer (OCRC) patients who were inserted self-expandable metallic stent and underwent curative surgery.

Methods: Plain cross-sectional CT images obtained before stenting were retrospectively analyzed in 92 patients.

Objectives: It has been increasingly recognized that the progression of cancer is dependent not only on the tumor characteristics but also on the nutritious and inflammatory condition of the host. We investigated the relationship between the globulin-to-albumin ratio (GAR) and long-term outcomes in obstructive colorectal cancer (OCRC) patients who were inserted self-expandable metallic stent as a bridge to curative surgery.

Methods: A total of 75 pathological stage II and III OCRC patients between 2013 and 2020 were retrospectively evaluated.

Background & Aims: The efficacy of endoscopic sphincterotomy (ES) before endoscopic transpapillary biliary drainage in preventing post-endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography pancreatitis (PEP) has not been established. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of performing ES before biliary stent/tube placement on the occurrence of PEP.

Methods: Three hundred seventy patients with biliary stricture requiring endoscopic biliary stenting were enrolled and randomly allocated to the ES group (n = 185) or non-ES group (n = 185).

The recurrence rate of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in patients after first-time myocardial infarction (MI) is over ten times higher than in the general population. However, it is unclear whether patients with multiple-time MI have an even higher recurrence rate of MI. This study aimed to compare the recurrence rate in patients with multiple-time MI with the rate in patients after first-time MI.

[A Case of Gastric Cancer That Pathological Completely Responded to Neoadjuvant S-1 plus Cisplatin Therapy].

A 67-year-old man with complaints of upper abdominal pain visited a clinic and was diagnosed with type 3 gastric cancer. Contrasted-enhanced CT revealed gastric wall thickening and extensive metastatic lymph nodes particularly around the celiac artery and also invasion to pancreas. He was diagnosed with cT4b, cN2, cM0, cStage ⅢB and we treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NAC)consisting of 4 courses of S-1 and cisplatin regimen.

[Study of Laparoscopic Surgery for Elderly Patients with Colorectal Cancer].

The number of elderly patients and colorectal cancer patients is increasing, so laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer in elderly patients is suspected to increase. In 456 patients who underwent laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer, we investigated whether laparoscopic surgery for elderly patients with colon cancer patients could be performed equally compared to non-elderly patients. Preoperative ASA-PS was slightly poorer in elderly patients.

Quantitative evaluation of the effect of changes in effective energy on the image quality in X-ray computed tomography.

The X-ray effective energy differs for each computed tomography (CT) scanner even at the same tube voltage because of differences in the bow-tie filter and additional filter. Even when scanning with the same tube voltage and dose setting, these differences in effective energy result in different image noise levels. Although this qualitative change is known, the related quantitative changes have not been clarified.

The prognostic value of the prognostic nutritional index and inflammation-based markers in obstructive colorectal cancer.

Purpose: Inflammation-based markers predict long-term outcomes of various malignancies. We investigated the relationship between these markers and the long-term survival in obstructive colorectal cancer (OCRC) patients with self-expandable metallic colonic stents (SEMSs) who subsequently received curative surgery.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 72 consecutive pathological stage II and III OCRC patients between 2013 and 2019.
