Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the biological properties and chemical profiles of chickweed extracts using various solvents and advanced techniques like UHPLC/MS/MS.
  • Twelve phenolic compounds, primarily flavonoids, were identified, with the water extract showing the best antioxidant capabilities and the ethyl acetate extract showing strong enzyme-inhibiting effects.
  • The findings suggest chickweed could be a valuable resource for developing products in the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and cosmeceutical sectors due to its significant cytotoxic effects and potential mechanisms of action against cancer-related targets.

The aims of this research were to investigate the usability of black grape pomace in the production of shalgam juice, which is a traditional fermented Turkish beverage, to transform the pomace into the high value-added product and to enrich the shalgam juice with phenolic compounds. Black grape pomace and black carrot were used as the sources of polyphenols and five different formulations were obtained according to the amounts of black carrot and black grape pomace. During the fermentation, the samples were taken at different periods and analyzed for anthocyanins, phenolic compounds, antioxidant activity, and tannin content.

The primary objective of this study was to examine the isolation of succinic acid (SA) from aqueous-based solutions through the utilization of adsorption and ion exchange methods. Four kinds of anion exchange resins were employed, two of which were strong basic (Lewatit M-500 and Lewatit M-600), and the other two were weak basic (Lewatit MP-64 and Lewatit MP-62). The impacts of various variables on the efficiency of the process were examined.

The effects of blueberry (BB) and jujube fruit (JF) on the quality parameters, functional, probiotic ( DSM 20079) viability, and sensorial properties of probiotic ice cream were investigated. No statistical differences were discovered regarding titratable acidity and DSM 20079 counts between all samples. However, the ice creams preserved the survivability of probiotic bacteria during the storage period.

roots are consumed as natural flavor components and raw or cooked as food, and their extracts are rich in sesquiterpene lactones such as alantolactone (AL) and isoalantolactone (IAL), which have recently attracted great attention due to their pharmacological properties. The industrial utilization of these compounds requires the development of green, efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable extraction protocols. Therefore, this study focused on the optimization of microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) process variables using Face-Centered Central Composite Design (FC-CCD).

Prediction of lymph node metastasis based on tumor size in stage 1A endometrioid endometrium cancer.

Eur Rev Med Pharmacol Sci

January 2024

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Faculty of Medicine, Selcuk University Konya, Turkey.

Objective: Endometrium cancer (EC) is the most prevalent cancer affecting women in developed countries. There is debate about the need to perform lymphadenectomy in cases with a tumor diameter >2 cm. The aim of our study is to research the prediction of lymph node metastasis using tumor size in stage 1A endometrioid endometrium cancer (EEC).

fruit is widely used in traditional and complementary medicine in Turkey for the treatment of different diseases in various forms such as molasses and tar. This study was carried out to evaluate the phenolic compounds, organic acid, sugar, and macro- and micromineral distributions of methanol and water extracts of fruit, as well as their antioxidant and antimicrobial potential. For this purpose, total phenolic content by spectrophotometer, phenolics, organic acids, and sugars distributions by HPLC in extracts of fruits, and macro- and micromineral element content by ICP-AES in fruit were determined.

This study was designed to investigate the effects of vinegar-based marinades on pH, technological properties, color, microstructure, texture, and sensory characteristics of 9-year-old Holstein meat which had tough texture. To marinate the steaks, three different marinades were prepared depending on the different additions of vinegar: black chokeberry (BV), grape (GV), and hawthorn vinegars (HV). The group with water (without vinegar) was prepared as a control sample (C).

Objectives: Cochlear implant (CI) infection is the most common complication after CI surgery. We investigated whether the preoperative neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) values could predict the CI infection and the NLR and PLR values obtained at the first admission to the hospital with an CI infection could help the clinician in the diagnosis.

Methods: This retrospective case-controlled study included 26 patients with postsurgical CI infection.

September 2021

Vocational School of Technical Sciences, Department of Chemistry and Chemical Processing Technologies, Konya Technical University, Turkey.

Tocopherols and tocotrienols in the combined form are known as tocols. Changes of total and individual tocols and sterols concentration of canola oil and deodorizer distillate (DD) during different processing stages were evaluated with the application of gas chromatography (GC) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). For sterols analysis, GC coupled with flame ionization detector (FID) was used while tocols in canola oil samples and DD, normal phase (NP) HPLC was applied.

Covalent-organic polymer networks (COPNs) have been used as catalyst supports due to their stable and favorable structure. Herein, a simple synthetic route was applied to generate Au@COPN-1 hybrids reduction of gold ions with no additional reducing agent. Synthesized novel COPN-1 was mixed with different concentrations of HAuCl which resulted in Au@COPN-1 with varying sizes of Au nanoparticles in a controlled manner.
