Background: Patients with idiopathic interstitial pneumonia (IIP) have a favourable prognosis when they have interstitial pneumonia with autoimmune features (IPAF). However, precise IPAF-related findings from high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) and lung histopathological specimens and the treatment response have not been fully determined. Therefore, this study was conducted to evaluate the relationship between findings on HRCT or lung histopathological specimens and the progression of interstitial pneumonia in patients with IPAF.

There is little evidence regarding the long-term prognosis of patients with aspiration pneumonia. This study aimed to investigate post-discharge survival time and prognostic factors in older patients hospitalized for aspiration pneumonia. This retrospective cohort study included patients aged ≥ 65 years hospitalized for aspiration pneumonia and discharged alive from a tertiary care hospital in Japan between April 2009 and September 2014.

Background: Bone metastases are frequently observed in advanced cancer, and bone modifying agents are used to prevent or treat skeletal-related events. Zoledronic acid is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment (Ccr < 30 mL/min), but it is not completely known whether denosumab can be used in them. We aimed to determine the association between renal function and hypocalcemia development during denosumab treatment.

Introduction: Boerhaave Syndrome (BS) is rare but life-threatening condition caused by a sudden increase in the intraluminal pressure due to vomiting. We present a case of BS manifesting as a posterior mediastinal hematoma, indicative of a potentially fatal condition.
Presentation Of Case: A 51-year-old man presented with acute chest pain after vomiting.

Purpose: Measurements of macular pigment optical density (MPOD) using the autofluorescence spectroscopy yield underestimations of actual values in eyes with cataracts. Previously, we proposed a correction method for this error using deep learning (DL); however, the correction performance was validated through internal cross-validation. This cross-sectional study aimed to validate this approach using an external validation dataset.

Background: Antifibrotic therapy is widely used for patients with progressive fibrotic interstitial lung disease (ILD), regardless of etiology. There is an urgent need for a simple, inexpensive, and repeatable biomarker to evaluate disease severity and mortality risk.
Methods: This retrospective multicohort study assessed the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratios (NLRs) of 416 patients with ILD who received antifibrotic therapy (Hamamatsu cohort, n = 217; Seirei cohort, n = 199).

Background: Traditional brain activity monitoring via scalp electroencephalography (EEG) offers limited resolution and is susceptible to artifacts. Endovascular electroencephalography (eEEG) emerged in the 1990s. Despite early successes and potential for detecting epileptiform activity, eEEG has remained clinically unutilized.

Background: Hernioplasty is one of the most commonly performed surgeries. However, the optimal procedure for young adults has not been defined yet. Our study compared the outcomes of laparoscopic percutaneous extraperitoneal closure (LPEC) in young adults with outcomes in children.

Purpose: To predict Humphrey Field Analyzer 24-2 test (HFA 24-2) results using 10-2 results.
Methods: A total of 175 advanced glaucoma eyes (175 patients) with HFA 24-2 mean deviation (MD24-2) of < -20 dB were prospectively followed up for five years using HFA 10-2 and 24-2 (twice and once in a year, respectively). Using all the HFA 24-2 and 10-2 test result pairs measured within three months (350 pairs from 85 eyes, training dataset), a formula to predict HFA 24-2 result using HFA 10-2 results was constructed using least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression (LASSO).

Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) is a rare congenital disorder associated with systemic vascular malformations characterized by port-wine stains, epilepsy, and glaucoma. Patients with SWS can develop stroke-like symptoms such as hemiparesis. We report a case of a 63-year old woman with SWS who developed left-sided hemiparesis and was finally diagnosed with myelin-oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) antibody-positive encephalitis.

Purpose: To compared the vessel density (VD) around the optic nerve head (ONH) in eyes with cone-rod dystrophy (CORD) and healthy control eyes in a sector-wise manner and to investigate the relationship between VD around the ONH and visual function in CORD eyes.
Methods: Twenty-six eyes in 14 CORD patients and 25 eyes in 25 healthy control subjects were examined. Using OCT angiography images, the VDs in the superficial and deep capillary plexus at the macula (sVDm and dVDm) and those around the ONH in the superior, temporal, inferior and nasal region (VDnh_s, VDnh_t, VDnh_i, and VDnh_n, respectively) were measured for each eye.

The full-field stimulus test (FST) is a psychophysical technique designed for the measurement of visual function in low vision. The method involves the use of a ganzfeld stimulator, as used in routine full-field electroretinography, to deliver full-field flashes of light. This guideline was developed jointly by the International Society for Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision (ISCEV) and Imaging and Perimetry Society (IPS) in order to provide technical information, promote consistency of testing and reporting, and encourage convergence of methods for FST.

Introduction: Streptococcus mutans (SM) with the collagen-binding protein Cnm is a unique member of the oral resident flora because it causes hemorrhagic vascular disorders. In the multicenter study, we examined the relationship between Cnm-positive SM (CP-SM) and intracranial aneurysm (IA) rupture, which remains unknown.
Methods: Between May 2013 and June 2018, we collected whole saliva samples from 431 patients with ruptured IAs (RIAs) and 470 patients with unruptured IAs (UIAs).

Objective: This study investigates temporal muscle atrophy in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients post-resuscitation, seeking associations with neurological outcomes and factors associated with atrophy.
Methods: Using data from six Japanese intensive care units, adult patients' post-resuscitation who underwent head computed tomography scans on admission and two to five days post-admission were assessed. Temporal muscle area, thickness, and density were quantified from a single cross-sectional image.
