Background: Several guidelines have recommended that the use of the lowest effective dose of antithyroid drugs (ATDs) that maintains maternal serum free thyroxine (FT4) levels at or moderately above the upper limit of the reference range is appropriate for fetal euthyroid status. However, little is known about whether ATD dosage affects the difference in serum FT4 levels between the mother and neonate. We conducted a retrospective study at a tertiary hospital in Japan to investigate the dose-dependent influence of ATDs on both maternal and fetal thyroid hormone status.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore how the positions of the optic disc and major retinal arteries affect the progression of visual field loss in patients with primary open angle glaucoma (POAG).
  • Researchers measured visual fields in 116 eyes of 73 patients, looking at various retinal structural parameters and their relationships to the rates of visual field deterioration.
  • Results indicated that a narrower angle of the superior retinal artery was linked to faster progression in specific sectors of the inferior visual field, but the tilt of the papillomacular bundle did not show any significant relationship to progression rates.

Perampanel is a once-daily, first-in-class AMPA receptor antagonist approved for the treatment of epilepsy and exhibits broad-spectrum efficacy in a range of seizure types when used as both monotherapy and adjunctive therapy. Clinical studies and real-world evidence have demonstrated the advantages of initiating perampanel at low doses and utilizing a slow titration strategy. Initiating perampanel at an early stage has also been shown to be associated with better patient outcomes.
