Purpose: Surface-guided radiotherapy is useful for the pre-positioning and monitoring of radiotherapy. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of surface guidance on the repeatability of patient localization and to estimate the specific point at which high positional errors occur.
Materials And Methods: Ten patients without the VOXELAN system (non-VXLN group) and 10 patients with the VOXELAN as the pre-positioning procedure (VXLN group) were included in this analysis.

Purpose: To determine the relationship between the ocular biometrics and axial length (AL) elongation and its rate in elementary school children.
Methods: This is a prospective observational study of 102 right eyes of third-grade elementary school students who were 8 to 9 years old. All participants underwent measurements of the AL, anterior chamber depth (ACD), and lens thickness (LT) annually for 3 years.

Objective: This post hoc analysis evaluated whether continued treatment with perampanel monotherapy beyond initial titration may be appropriate for patients with focal-onset seizures (FOS) with currently untreated epilepsy to achieve seizure freedom with an effective dose.
Methods: Study 342 (NCT03201900; FREEDOM) is a single-arm, open-label, Phase III study of perampanel monotherapy. Patients aged ≥12 years with untreated FOS received perampanel 4 mg/d in a 32-week Treatment Phase (6-week Titration and 26-week Maintenance Periods); in case of seizure(s) during Maintenance Period, patients could enter a 30-week Treatment Phase (4-week Titration and 26-week Maintenance Periods) to be up-titrated to perampanel 8 mg/d.

Background: Fissureless lobectomies are beneficial for preventing prolonged air leaks (PALs). Despite the widespread use of this technique in lobectomy cases, there have been no reports on fissureless bilobectomies to date.
Case Presentation: A 73-year-old man with an 80-pack per year smoking history was diagnosed with a stage 1 primary squamous cell carcinoma in the right lower lobe.

This study investigated the number of epilepsy surgeries performed over time in Japan, and conducted a questionnaire survey of the Japan Neurosurgical Society (JNS) training program core hospitals to determine the current status and future objectives of surgical therapies and epilepsy training programs for physicians in Japan. This article presents part of a presentation delivered as a presidential address at the 44th Annual Meeting of the Epilepsy Surgery Society of Japan held in January 2021. The number of epilepsy surgeries performed per year has increased in Japan since 2011 to around 1,200 annually between 2015 and 2018.

Purpose: To analyze the vessel density around the optic nerve head (ONH) by optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) in patients with retinitis pigmentosa (RP), and to evaluate its correlation with visual functions.
Methods: Thirty-eight eyes with RP with visual field constriction within the central 10° were enrolled. The mean (± SD) age of the patients was 43.

Background: Intracranial dermoid cyst is a rare, benign, nonneoplastic tumor-like lesion that could cause seizures, headache, and hydrocephalus. We hypothesized that the temporal lobe dermoid cyst in combination with other factors were causing the epileptic seizure.
Methods: We encountered a 17-year-old girl with anti-seizure medication-resistant epilepsy secondary to dermoid cyst located in the temporal region depicted on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Background: Several guidelines have recommended that the use of the lowest effective dose of antithyroid drugs (ATDs) that maintains maternal serum free thyroxine (FT4) levels at or moderately above the upper limit of the reference range is appropriate for fetal euthyroid status. However, little is known about whether ATD dosage affects the difference in serum FT4 levels between the mother and neonate. We conducted a retrospective study at a tertiary hospital in Japan to investigate the dose-dependent influence of ATDs on both maternal and fetal thyroid hormone status.

Antifibrotic therapy (AFT) slows disease progression in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). The Gender-Age-Physiology (GAP) index, was developed based on data at IPF diagnosis before the introduction of AFT and has not been evaluated in the AFT context. Further, recent advances have revealed the importance of body-composition factors in prognosis of IPF treated with AFT.

Recently, treatment for rheumatoid arthritis has dramatically improved but increases the risk of bacterial and opportunistic infections. Herein, we report a fatal case of concurrent disseminated tuberculosis, pneumocystis pneumonia, and septic shock due to pyelonephritis caused by extended-spectrum -lactamase-producing in a patient with rheumatoid arthritis who received methotrexate, glucocorticoid, and tocilizumab. Despite undergoing intensive treatment, the patient developed respiratory failure and died after 7 days of admission.

Purpose: This study investigated the relationship between retinal artery angle and visual function in eyes with idiopathic epiretinal membrane (ERM).
Methods: Ultra-wide field fundus imaging was conducted to analyze ERM and normal contralateral eyes. In addition to the logMAR visual acuity (VA) measurement, the average of the vertical and horizontal metamorphopsia scores (Mave) was measured using m-Charts for each eye.

BACKGROUND Pfeiffer syndrome (PS) is a fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR)-associated craniosynostosis syndrome, characterized by abnormally broad and medially deviated thumbs and great toes. Tracheal cartilage sleeve (TCS) is associated with several FGFR-associated craniosynostosis syndromes, including PS. TCS is an airway malformation in which the tracheal cartilage rings fuse with each other to form a sleeve of cartilage.

Perampanel is a once-daily, first-in-class AMPA receptor antagonist approved for the treatment of epilepsy and exhibits broad-spectrum efficacy in a range of seizure types when used as both monotherapy and adjunctive therapy. Clinical studies and real-world evidence have demonstrated the advantages of initiating perampanel at low doses and utilizing a slow titration strategy. Initiating perampanel at an early stage has also been shown to be associated with better patient outcomes.

Background/aims: To validate a deep learning algorithm to diagnose glaucoma from fundus photography obtained with a smartphone.
Methods: A training dataset consisting of 1364 colour fundus photographs with glaucomatous indications and 1768 colour fundus photographs without glaucomatous features was obtained using an ordinary fundus camera. The testing dataset consisted of 73 eyes of 73 patients with glaucoma and 89 eyes of 89 normative subjects.
