MRI-based radiomics analysis for differentiating phyllodes tumors of the breast from fibroadenomas.

Objectives: To evaluate the diagnostic performance of MRI-based radiomics model for differentiating phyllodes tumors of the breast from fibroadenomas.

Methods: This retrospective study included 88 patients (32 with phyllodes tumors and 56 with fibroadenomas) who underwent MRI. Radiomic features were extracted from T2-weighted image, pre-contrast T1-weighted image, and the first-phase and late-phase dynamic contrast-enhanced MRIs.

Introduction And Importance: Solitary fibrous tumors of the pleura (SFTPs) present a diagnostic challenge. We herein report a successful case mimicking a soft tissue sarcoma of the chest wall by a meticulous evaluation of the conventional images.

Knowledge-based planning using pseudo-structures for volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) of postoperative uterine cervical cancer: a multi-institutional study.

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the performance of the RapidPlan (RP ) using models registered pseudostructures, and to determine how many structures are required for automatic optimization of volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) for postoperative uterine cervical cancer.

Materials And Methods: Pseudo-structures around the PTV were retrospectively contoured for patients who had completed treatment at five institutions. For 22 common patients, plans were generated with a single optimization for models with two (RP_2), four (RP_4), and five (RP_5) registered structures, and the dosimetric parameters of these models were compared with a clinical plan with several optimizations.

This case is a 62-year-old man diagnosed with metastatic renal cell carcinoma. He was referred to our department due to the left renal mass pointed with ultra sound examination. Radiographical examination showed left-side 42 mm renal tumor with multiple lung tumors, suggesting renal cell carcinoma, cT1bN0M1 (pul).

Influence of symptomatic periodontal disease on changes in skeletal bone density during medication therapy for osteoporosis in postmenopausal women: the Japanese Osteoporosis Intervention Trial (JOINT)-04 and JOINT-05.

Unlabelled: Japanese postmenopausal women with symptomatic periodontal disease had a significantly smaller increase in the T-score for total hip bone density than those without periodontal disease during medication therapy for osteoporosis. Intervention to treat symptomatic periodontal disease before and/or during osteoporosis therapy could maintain the effect of osteoporosis medications.

Purpose: Women with periodontal disease may be more likely to develop osteoporosis.

Solitary pulmonary nodule as the initial manifestation of isolated metastasis from prostate cancer without bone involvement: A case report.

Introduction: Isolated lung metastases from prostate cancer without any other organ involvement are rare. They are commonly in the form of diffuse or multiple lesions and rarely emerge as a solitary pulmonary nodule.

Presentation Of Case: A 61-year-old man who had undergone a laparoscopic-assisted radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer 16 months prior presented with a growing solitary pulmonary nodule.

Real-World Analysis of the Aging Effects on Visual Field Reliability Indices in Humans.

Relationships between age and visual field (VF) reliability indices were investigated using a large real-world dataset (42,421 VF data points from 11,525 eyes of 5930 subjects). All VFs tested and stored at Shimane University Hospital between 1988 and 2019 were exported. Correlations between age, mean deviation (MD), pattern standard deviation (PSD), and reliability indices including fixation losses (FLs), false negatives (FNs), and false positives (FPs) were analyzed.

The macular pigment consisting of lutein (L) and zeaxanthin (Z) protects photoreceptors via its antioxidative and barrier activities. This study aimed to determine L and Z distribution in the healthy macula and their association with various demographic factors. Macular pigment optical density (MPOD) was measured using fundus autofluorescence spectroscopy in 352 pseudophakic eyes with no fundus diseases.

In 1940, van Wagenen and Herren first proposed the corpus callosotomy (CC) as a surgical procedure for epilepsy. CC has been mainly used to treat drop attacks, which are classified as generalized tonic or atonic seizures. Epileptic spasms (ESs) are a type of epileptic seizure characterized as brief muscle contractions with ictal polyphasic slow waves on an electroencephalogram and a main feature of West syndrome.

Effectiveness of radiation therapy on brain invasion by human papillomavirus-related multiphenotypic sinonasal carcinoma: A case report.

Human papillomavirus (HPV)-related multiphenotypic sinonasal carcinoma (HMSC) is newly suggested and characterized by HPV-related tumors. HMSC has a relatively good prognosis. No cases of brain invasion have been reported to date.

A case of problems in supporting a patient after Y-chromosome long arm microdeletion testing at a Japanese general hospital.

There are only few reports on the problems faced post-Y-chromosome microdeletion tests that decide the use of micro testicular sperm extraction. We report a case wherein we faced issues in supporting a patient post-testing. One patient with azoospermia factor c () deletion gave birth to a baby boy, who could have inherited the deletion; however, we could not inform the young patient.

Relationship between IgA Nephropathy and ; Red Complex of Periodontopathic Bacterial Species.

IgA nephropathy (IgAN) has been considered to have a relationship with infection in the tonsil, because IgAN patients often manifest macro hematuria just after tonsillitis. In terms of oral-area infection, the red complex of periodontal bacteria ( (), and ) is important, but the relationship between these bacteria and IgAN remains unknown. In this study, the prevalence of the red complex of periodontal bacteria in tonsil was compared between IgAN and tonsillitis patients.

Effects of Vagus Nerve Stimulation following Corpus Callosotomy for Patients with Drug-Resistant Epilepsy.

Objective: The effectiveness of vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) for residual seizures after corpus callosotomy (CC) has not yet been fully investigated. We hypothesized that seizure control would be improved by VNS after CC. The purpose of this study was to compare seizure frequency between patients with implantation of a VNS generator (post-VNS group) or without VNS (non-post-VNS group) following CC.

Using ultra-widefield red channel images to improve the detection of ischemic central retinal vein occlusion.

Purpose: To examine the usefulness of red channel fundus imaging to detect the ischemic status in eyes with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO).

Methods: Ultra-widefield (UWF) fundus images were obtained from 42 eyes with CRVO. Twenty-one eyes were ischemic, and 21 eyes were non-ischemic.

Predicting 10-2 Visual Field From Optical Coherence Tomography in Glaucoma Using Deep Learning Corrected With 24-2/30-2 Visual Field.

Purpose: To investigate whether a correction based on a Humphrey field analyzer (HFA) 24-2/30-2 visual field (VF) can improve the prediction performance of a deep learning model to predict the HFA 10-2 VF test from macular optical coherence tomography (OCT) measurements.

Methods: This is a multicenter, cross-sectional study. The training dataset comprised 493 eyes of 285 subjects (407, open-angle glaucoma [OAG]; 86, normative) who underwent HFA 10-2 testing and macular OCT.

Recently, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, has spread worldwide. Although nearly all patients incur mild-to-moderate disease from this viral infection, some develop severe manifestations with a poor prognosis. COVID-19 can also induce autoimmune disease; several cases of arthritis following COVID-19 have been documented in the literature, such as reactive arthritis and chronic arthritis.

Foveal microstructure and visual function in patients with lamellar macular hole, epiretinal membrane foveoschisis or macular pseudohole.

Purpose: To compare the foveal microstructures, such as the prevalence of epiretinal proliferation (EP) and residual ellipsoid zone (EZ), in eyes with lamellar macular hole (LMH), epiretinal retinal membrane (ERM) foveoschisis and macular pseudohole (MPH), and to investigate the association of the foveal microstructure with visual functions.

Method: In addition to the prevalence of EP, we calculated the residual EZ index within 1mm and 3 mm (rEZ1 and rEZ3) in all examined eyes. Comparisons were conducted to baseline characteristics (logMAR visual acuity [logMAR VA], metamorphopsia score [Mave], central retinal thickness [CRT], the prevalence of EP, rEZ1 and rEZ3) between MPH, ERM foveoschisis and LMH subgroups.

Considerations for continuing diet therapy in patients with epilepsy during the COVID-19 pandemic: A scoping review.

Diet therapy is an option for managing patients with drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE). Diet therapies used for patients with epilepsy include the classic ketogenic diet, the modified Atkins diet, the medium chain triglyceride diet, and the low glycemic index diet. The effectiveness of diet therapy is highly dependent on dietary adherence.

Risk factors for psychological distress in electroencephalography technicians during the COVID-19 pandemic: A national-level cross-sectional survey in Japan.

Objective: To identify the risk factors for psychological distress in electroencephalography (EEG) technicians during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Method: In this national-level cross-sectional survey initiated by Japan Young Epilepsy Section (YES-Japan), which is a national chapter of The Young Epilepsy Section of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE-YES), a questionnaire was administered to 173 technicians engaged in EEG at four clinics specializing in epilepsy care and 20 hospitals accredited as (quasi-) epilepsy centers or epilepsy training facilities in Japan from March 1 to April 30, 2021. We collected data on participants' profiles, information about work, and psychological distress outcome measurements, such as the K-6 and Tokyo Metropolitan Distress Scale for Pandemic (TMDP).

Detecting Progression of Retinitis Pigmentosa Using the Binomial Pointwise Linear Regression Method.

Purpose: A method of evaluating central visual field (VF) progression in eyes with retinitis pigmentosa (RP) has still to be established. We previously reported the potential merit of applying a binomial test to pointwise linear regression (binomial PLR) in glaucoma progression. In the current study, we investigated the usefulness of binomial PLR in eyes with RP.

Improvement of patient localization repeatability using a light-section based optical surface guidance system in a pre-positioning procedure.

Purpose: Surface-guided radiotherapy is useful for the pre-positioning and monitoring of radiotherapy. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of surface guidance on the repeatability of patient localization and to estimate the specific point at which high positional errors occur.

Materials And Methods: Ten patients without the VOXELAN system (non-VXLN group) and 10 patients with the VOXELAN as the pre-positioning procedure (VXLN group) were included in this analysis.
