Background And Aims: Nerve capping treatment using bioabsorbable nerve conduits has recently been introduced for painful amputation neuroma. However, no clinical or experimental data are available for comparing nerve conduits with open distal ends and closed distal ends. Here, we investigated the nerve conduit with open or closed distal ends as the superior capping device, using a commercially available polyglycolic acid (PGA) nerve conduit in a rat sciatic nerve amputation model.

Risk factors for postoperative bleeding and early death in percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy: A multicenter retrospective study.

Background And Aim: Comprehensive reports on the risk factors for bleeding and early death after percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) are limited. In this multicenter study, we retrospectively investigated the risk factors for bleeding and early death after PEG.

Methods: Patients (n = 1234) who underwent PEG between 2015 and 2020 at Osaka Medical and Pharmaceutical University and its affiliated hospitals (11 institutions in total) were evaluated for postoperative bleeding and early death (within 60 days) after PEG according to patient characteristics, construction method, medical history, medications, preoperative hematological findings, and perioperative adverse events.

Intra-articular fibromembranous septum after intra-articular distal radial fracture: Arthroscopic excision and factors associated with formation of the septum.

Background: Intra-articular fibromembranous septum in the radiocarpal joint can cause wrist contracture after distal radial fracture, but the mechanism underlying the formation of the septum is unknown. This study examined the clinical outcomes in patients treated with arthroscopic excision of the septum and the factors associated with formation of the septum in patients with and without a septum.

Methods: Fifty-three patients (22 with septum and 31 without septum) treated for intra-articular distal radial fracture with arthroscopy using a volar locking plate and secondary removal of the plate were included.

Reconstruction of a Composite Defect of the Distal Index Finger Using a Chimeric Reverse Flow Second Dorsal Metacarpal Artery Flap: A Case Report.

The reconstruction for mild tissue loss at the distal part of a finger is challenging. We report about a 29-year-old man presenting with traumatic tissue loss at the distal interphalangeal (DIP) joint of the index finger, including skin, bone, and nerve. Reconstruction using two types of flaps was performed.

Risk factors of the poor long-term prognosis of osteoporotic vertebral fractures: A multicenter cohort study.

Introduction: The presence of existing osteoporotic vertebral fracture (OVF) increases the mortality risk. However, the influence of the characteristics of OVF is unclear. This study aimed to investigate the influence of new OVF on patients' long-term prognosis using our past cohort study.

A nation-wide survey of Japanese pediatric MOG antibody-associated diseases.

Objective: To elucidate the clinical characteristics of Japanese pediatric patients with acquired demyelinating diseases (ADS), positive for myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody (MOG-IgG), we conducted a nation-wide survey.

Methods: Information about pediatric patients under 18 years old with ADS was solicited with surveys sent to 323 facilities. In an initial survey, we asked whether the center had any patients with ADS, and the MOG-IgG serostatus of the patients.

Relationship between number of radiological risk factors for delayed union after osteoporotic vertebral fracture and clinical outcomes.

Unlabelled: This study demonstrated that number of three specific radiological risk factors (MR T2WI confined high-intensity pattern and diffuse low-intensity pattern, thoracolumbar vertebrae involvement, middle column injury) added prognostic information for delayed union, kyphotic deformity, and prolonged pain.

Purpose: Delayed union after osteoporotic vertebral fracture (OVF) causes prolonged pain, QOL impairment, progression of collapse, kyphotic deformity, and neurologic impairment. Some specific radiological findings can be useful for predicting delayed union.

Posttraumatic triggering of the extensor pollicis brevis tendon in de Quervain's disease successfully diagnosed with ultrasonography: A case report.

Triggering due to de Quervain's disease is exceedingly rare. This is the first successfully diagnosed case of the snapping phenomenon of the extensor pollicis brevis (EPB) tendon in de Quervain's disease evaluated with preoperative dynamic ultrasonography, clearly demonstrated in an intraoperative video, and treated with decompression of EPB subcompartment only under a wide-awake surgery. Dynamic ultrasonographic images identified snapping caused by unsmooth excursion of an enlarged EPB tendon in a separate subcompartment.

Replantation for multiple digit amputations: A retrospective analysis of the clinical results.

Purpose: Replantation of multidigit amputations is difficult to perform due to severe damage to the digits, prolonged operative time, and ischemia. This study aimed to report the clinical results of multidigit replantation.

Methods: A retrospective case series of 34 digits belonging to 12 consecutive patients who underwent multidigit replantation was conducted.

Clinical results of splinting versus observation for pediatric trigger thumb.

Patients with pediatric trigger thumb present with fixed contracture of the interphalangeal joint (IPJ) or snapping of the thumb. We applied a hand-based dynamic splint using coils at the IPJ. The aim of this study was to report the clinical outcomes of splint therapy versus observation.

Arthroscopic Excision for Intra-Articular Osteoid Osteoma of the Olecranon Fossa: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Intra-articular osteoid osteoma (OO) of the elbow is rare. We report a 26-year-old man who presented with pain, swelling, and limited elbow range of motion. Plain computed tomography (CT) showed a radiolucent round lesion at the distal humerus and reactive bone in the olecranon fossa.

Identification of Ulnar Artery Perforators Using Color Doppler Ultrasonography.

Background:  The ulnar artery perforator (UAP) flap, which is hairless, thin, and pliable, has been used for the reconstruction of soft tissues from the finger to the elbow. Preoperative planning is essential for a perforator flap surgery, and there are some tests to identify perforators. Color Doppler ultrasonography (US) with a high-frequency transducer helps in detecting decreased flow in smaller vessels, such as perforators.

Ulnar-sided wrist pain due to radial bifurcation of the extensor digiti minimi tendon: A case report and literature review.

Stenosing tenosynovitis of the extensor digiti minimi (EDM) without trauma is very rare. We report a 21-year-old woman who presented with dorsoulnar wrist pain during palmar wrist flexion and soft tissue mass at the site of pain. Ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging showed a round mass radial to the EDM tendon.

Validity of the Wide-range Assessment of Vision-related Essential Skills in Japanese Children with Learning Problems.

Significance: Our study revealed that the validity of a new Japanese visual-perceptual test was acceptable. Visual-perceptual abilities are important to activities of daily living; thus, accurate assessment of visual perception is especially important for children with neurodevelopmental disorders and particularly so for those with learning problems.

Purpose: Visual perception refers to the process by which one receives visual information through sensory impulses and then translates those impulses into meaning based on a previously developed view of the environment.

The natural course of the paravertebral muscles after the onset of osteoporotic vertebral fracture.

Unlabelled: This study revealed the change in the paravertebral muscles in patients with osteoporotic vertebral fracture. Increased pain is likely to be the driver for reduced activity, reduced activities of daily living, and consequent increase in fat infiltration of the paravertebral muscles, assumed to be secondary to reduced activity level or, conversely, partial immobilization.

Introduction: To reveal the time courses and impact of the paravertebral muscles (PVMs) on the healing process of osteoporotic vertebral fractures and risk factors for PVM decrease.

Use of Distal Hypothenar Perforator Free Flaps for Pulp Defects.

A hypothenar perforator free flap, which is harvested from the palm, is suitable for reconstruction of a finger pulp skin defect, but this flap has rarely been reported, and most of these flaps in previous published reports were designed on the proximal zone of the hypothenar area. In the present report, hypothenar perforator free flaps on the distal zone, namely distal hypothenar perforator free flaps, including two sensate flaps, were used for four cases with pulp defects. Four distal hypothenar perforator free flaps were used for four patients with skin defects of the finger pulp, including one thumb, two index fingers, and one little finger.

Radiotriquetral arthrodesis for rheumatoid wrist with flexor tendon rupture: A case report.

Flexor tendon rupture in the wrist of patients with rheumatoid arthritis is a rare complication, and there is no standard treatment for the wrist joint. Here, we present the case of a rupture of the flexor digitorum profundus of the left index finger owing to a rheumatoid wrist. Plain radiography and computed tomography showed carpal collapse, especially lunate, and arthrosis between the capitate and lunate.

Size and stabilization of the dorsoulnar fragment in AO C3-type distal radius fractures.

Introduction: Volar locking plate (VLP) fixation has become the gold-standard treatment for distal radius fractures (DRFs). Especially, internal fixation of the volar lunate facet fragment is essential for the treatment of AO C3-type DRFs. On the other hand, the necessity of the fixation of the dorsal lunate facet fragment (dorsoulnar fragment) remains unclear.

Arthroscopic reduction of an irreducible distal radioulnar joint in Galeazzi fracture-dislocation due to a fragment of the ulnar styloid: a case report.

Background: There are only a few published case reports of irreducible Galeazzi fracture-dislocation, and patients in these studies had undergone reduction by open surgical methods.
