  • Chronic Rhinosinusitis (CRS) affects 5%-12% of people worldwide and is classified into type 2 and non-type 2 diseases, with type 2 inflammation marked by specific cytokines and immune cell activity.
  • A retrospective study in Saudi Arabia assessed the prevalence of type 2 inflammation in patients with nasal polyps who underwent Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (ESS) from 2015 to 2020, focusing on factors like blood eosinophils and IgE levels.
  • Results showed a striking 99.7% prevalence of type 2-CRS among the 381 studied patients, with significant rates of olfactory dysfunction and common co-morbidities like allergic rhinitis and asthma.

The present study aimed to clarify the prognostic role of the pre-treatment neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) for the response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in locally advanced breast cancer (LABC). Due to conflicting results in currently available data, the specific focus of the present study was on evaluating the associations between the pre-treatment NLR and the rate of achieving a pathological complete response (pCR) and survival outcomes. For the present study, data from a cohort of 465 consecutive patients with LABC who underwent NAC at King Feisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia) between 2005 and 2014 were obtained from a prospective BC database and analyzed.

Article Synopsis
  • Unstable phalangeal fractures are challenging in hand surgery, and the choice between K-wire fixation and titanium plating often relies on surgeon preference due to insufficient comparative data.
  • A systematic review and meta-analysis of literature identified 6 studies with 414 patients and found that K-wire fixation resulted in significantly shorter surgical times and quicker radiographic union compared to titanium plating.
  • Despite these advantages, overall complications, including infection and need for reoperation, showed no significant differences between the two fixation methods, highlighting the importance of tailored treatment approaches based on individual cases.

Introduction: Patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) have a high incidence of Left ventricle diastolic dysfunction (DD). Latest algorithms for the assessment of DD lay on 2D parameters and describe a grading to quantify its severity. However, there persists a "gray zone" of values in which DD remains indeterminate.

Low-grade serous ovarian cancer (LGSOC) is a very rare histological subtype of serous ovarian cancer, representing ~2% of all epithelial ovarian cancer cases. LGSOC has a better prognosis but a lower response rate to chemotherapy in comparison to high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC). The present study is a retrospective review of the medical records of all patients with histologically proven LGSOC diagnosed and treated in a single institute between January 2003 and December 2019.

The Varicella-zoster virus (VZV), classified as a neurotropic member of the Herpesviridae family, exhibits a characteristic pathogenicity, predominantly inducing varicella, commonly known as chickenpox, during the initial infectious phase, and triggering the reactivation of herpes zoster, more commonly recognized as shingles, following its emergence from a latent state. The pathogenesis of VZV-associated neuroinflammation involves a complex interplay between viral replication within sensory ganglia and immune-mediated responses that contribute to tissue damage and dysfunction. Upon primary infection, VZV gains access to sensory ganglia, establishing latent infection within neurons.
