The present study aimed to clarify the prognostic role of the pre-treatment neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) for the response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in locally advanced breast cancer (LABC). Due to conflicting results in currently available data, the specific focus of the present study was on evaluating the associations between the pre-treatment NLR and the rate of achieving a pathological complete response (pCR) and survival outcomes. For the present study, data from a cohort of 465 consecutive patients with LABC who underwent NAC at King Feisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia) between 2005 and 2014 were obtained from a prospective BC database and analyzed.

The singular leaflet mitral valve is a rare and complex entity that has been described in only a few case reports. It is commonly observed in infancy and combined with symptomatic mitral regurgitation (MR). In most asymptomatic individuals, this complication is attributed mainly to a hypoplastic posterior mitral leaflet and is usually revealed in adulthood.

Background: Prostate cancer, a significant contributor to male cancer mortality globally, demands improved diagnostic strategies. In Saudi Arabia, where the incidence is expected to double, this study assessed the compliance of multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) practices with Prostate Imaging-Reporting and Data System version 2 (PI-RADS v2) guidelines across diverse healthcare institutions.
Methods: A survey was distributed to the radiology departments of all tertiary referral hospitals in Saudi Arabia (n=60) to assess their compliance with the technical specifications outlined in PI-RADS v2.

Key Clinical Message: Molybdenum cofactor deficiency is a rare and fatal genetic disorder. Due to recurrence in the family, the etiological diagnosis could have impacted family planning and alertness to future offspring.
Abstract: Molybdenum cofactor deficiency (MoCD) is a rare and fatal genetic disorder that impairs molybdenum-dependent enzymes, resulting in conspicuous elevated urine sulfite levels and lowered serum uric acid levels.

Introduction: Patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) have a high incidence of Left ventricle diastolic dysfunction (DD). Latest algorithms for the assessment of DD lay on 2D parameters and describe a grading to quantify its severity. However, there persists a "gray zone" of values in which DD remains indeterminate.

Background: Dementia is a common neurogenerative disease among older adults. Therefore, they are more prone to potentially inappropriate medication (PIM), which is medication that causes more harm rather than protecting the health of an individual. Hence, the American Geriatrics Society (AGS) has recognized the risk of certain medication classes on this population and released PIM according to Beers criteria, which is a helpful guide for clinicians to ensure the safety of medication before it is prescribed.

Low-grade serous ovarian cancer (LGSOC) is a very rare histological subtype of serous ovarian cancer, representing ~2% of all epithelial ovarian cancer cases. LGSOC has a better prognosis but a lower response rate to chemotherapy in comparison to high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC). The present study is a retrospective review of the medical records of all patients with histologically proven LGSOC diagnosed and treated in a single institute between January 2003 and December 2019.

The Varicella-zoster virus (VZV), classified as a neurotropic member of the Herpesviridae family, exhibits a characteristic pathogenicity, predominantly inducing varicella, commonly known as chickenpox, during the initial infectious phase, and triggering the reactivation of herpes zoster, more commonly recognized as shingles, following its emergence from a latent state. The pathogenesis of VZV-associated neuroinflammation involves a complex interplay between viral replication within sensory ganglia and immune-mediated responses that contribute to tissue damage and dysfunction. Upon primary infection, VZV gains access to sensory ganglia, establishing latent infection within neurons.
