Dendritic cells are the most potent antigen-presenting cells in immune therapeutic approaches for chronic hepatitis B (CHB) infection. Here, we developed a clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of autologous HBV vaccine-pulsed DCs and their induced T cells (HPDCT) in CHB patients. This was a randomised, prospective, open-label, multicentre, superiority study and 309 treatment-naive CHB patients were divided into HPDCT plus nucleos(t)ide analogues (NAs) group (n = 84), NAs mono-therapy group (n = 82), HPDCT plus Peg-interferon (Peg-IFN) group (n = 69), Peg-IFN mono-therapy group (n = 74).

Purpose: To explore possible pathogenic genes for concomitant exotropia using whole-exome sequencing.
Methods: In this study, 47 individuals from 10 concomitant exotropia (including intermittent exotropia and constant exotropia) pedigrees were enrolled. Whole-exome sequencing was used to screen mutational profiles in 25 affected individuals and 10 unaffected individuals.

Background: Pterygium is a complex ocular surface disease characterized by the abnormal proliferation and growth of conjunctival and fibrovascular tissues at the corneal-scleral margin. Understanding the underlying molecular mechanisms of pterygium is crucial for developing effective diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
Methods: To elucidate the molecular mechanisms of pterygium, we conducted a differential gene expression analysis between pterygium and normal conjunctival tissues using high-throughput RNA sequencing.

Objectives: To analyze the influence of daily activity-related factors associated with COVID-19 infection on the occurrence of acute angle closure (AAC).
Methods: A multicenter hospital-based study was conducted at 23 ophthalmic centers in 17 provincial-level regions across China to recruit patients with confirmed AAC during the post-lockdown time of COVID-19 (P-TOC) from Dec 7, 2022, to Jan 17, 2023, and three lockdown time of COVID-19 (TOC) periods, which included the TOC-2022 (Sep 7, 2022 - Dec 6, 2022), TOC-2021(Sep 7, 2021 - Jan 6, 2022) and TOC-2020 (Sep 7, 2020 - Jan 6, 2021). Patient information, including demographic, a questionnaire on daily activity changes during the AAC period, COVID-19 history, and eye examination results, was collected.

Extensive evidence suggests a correlation between environmental pollutants, specifically perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). This study aims to investigate the association and underlying mechanisms of PFAS-induced NAFLD in adolescents by employing a comprehensive approach of population-based studies, toxicogenomics, and animal models. A total of 2014 freshmen from Dali University were recruited for this study, with 1694 participants undergoing serum testing for PFAS exposure.

Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the long-term outcomes between laparoscopic anatomical liver resection (LAR) and laparoscopic non-anatomical liver resection (LNAR) in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
Methods: In this single-center retrospective cohort study, 1773 patients, from January 2009 to December 2017, were assessed for inclusion. After exclusions, 661 patients were included: 304 patients received LAR and 357 patients received LNAR.

Objective: To explore the mechanism by which diazepam alleviates lipopolysaccharide (LPS) -induced pyroptosis and inflammation to delay the progression of pulmonary fibrosis.
Methods: MRC-5 cells challenged with LPS were treated with diazepam and transfected with a let-7a-5p mimic alone or co-transfected with pc-DNA-MYD88. The changes in cellular expressions of inflammatory factors were analyzed with ELISA, and the expressions of fibrosis- and pyroptosis-related proteins were detected using Western blotting.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) has become a serious threat to human health, which exhibited an increasing prevalence globally. Recently, the farnesoid X receptor (FXR) has been identified as a promising strategy for the treatment of MASH by regulating multiple pathogenesis. In this study, a new series of FXR agonists bearing piperidine scaffold was designed to reduce the high lipophilicity of the existing FXR agonists.

Cardiovascular disease refers to a group of conditions that affect the heart and blood vessels, including coronary artery disease, heart failure, and stroke, among others. Edaravone (ED) inhibits oxidative stress and free radical damage, which are thought to contribute to the progression of various diseases. Thus, the purpose of the study is to examine the cardioprotective effect of ED against vitamin D and high fat-induced atherosclerosis in rats.

Propionate metabolism is important in the development of diabetes, and fibrosis plays an important role in diabetic nephropathy (DN). However, there are no studies on biomarkers related to fibrosis and propionate metabolism in DN. Hence, the current research is aimed at evaluating biomarkers associated with fibrosis and propionate metabolism and to explore their effect on DN progression.

Type 2 diabetes (T2DM) is characterised by insulin resistance and a relative shortage of insulin secretion. Tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) plays an important role in insulin resistance by impairing insulin signal transduction. The variants of the TNF-α promoter region are considered to influence its transcription and are associated with the TNF-α level.

The clinical risk factors and risk of developing pulmonary embolism (PE) in patients with acute isolated distal deep venous thrombosis (IDDVT) were assessed using single complete-duplex ultrasound (CDUS) imaging to reduce over-testing and over-treatment. This observational study was conducted from January 2020 to December 2022. Retrospective analysis was performed on CT pulmonary angiography (CTPA), blood coagulation markers, myocardial injury markers, blood gas analysis, and CDUS imaging of the lower extremity blood vessels of 146 patients with newly diagnosed IDDVT.

Sepsis is a life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to infection, with increasing mortality as septic shock and organ failure progress. Mechanisms such as vascular endothelial dysfunction, microcirculatory disorders, coagulation abnormalities, immune suppression, mitochondrial damage, cell pyroptosis, ferroptosis, endoplasmic reticulum stress, and autophagy play crucial roles in organ dysfunction and death caused by sepsis. Concurrently, the imbalance of the gut microbiota also plays an undeniable role in the development of sepsis, with recent studies demonstrating a close connection between the gut microbiome and sepsis.

Tubulointerstitial lesions could also be prominent in lupus nephritis, and the pathogenesis of tubulointerstitial lesions may be different from glomerular lesions. Previous studies have showed that plasma antibodies against modified /monomeric C-reactive protein (mCRP) are associated with renal tubulointerstitial lesions in patients with lupus nephritis, and amino acid (aa) 199-206 was one of the major epitopes of mCRP. However, the role of anti-mCRP antibodies in the pathogenesis of tubulointerstitial lesions in lupus nephritis is unknown.
