Early Life Fructose Exposure and Its Implications for Long-Term Cardiometabolic Health in Offspring.

Nutrients

November 2016

Department of Endocrinology, Key Laboratory of Endocrinology, Ministry of Health, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Diabetes Research Center of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College, Beijing 100730, China.

It has become increasingly clear that maternal nutrition can strongly influence the susceptibility of adult offspring to cardiometabolic disease. For decades, it has been thought that excessive intake of fructose, such as sugar-sweetened beverages and foods, has been linked to increased risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease in various populations. These deleterious effects of excess fructose consumption in adults are well researched, but limited data are available on the long-term effects of high fructose exposure during gestation, lactation, and infancy.

Among 131 rice endosperm proteins previously identified by MS-based proteomics, most of the proteins showed low or almost no sequence similarity to known allergens in databases, whereas nine proteins did it significantly. The sequence of two proteins showed high overall identity with Hsp70-like hazel tree pollen allergen (Cor a 10) and barley α-amylase (Hor v 16), respectively, whereas the others showed low identity (28-58%) with lemon germin-like protein (Cit l 1), corn zein (Zea m 50 K), wheat chitinase-like xylanase inhibitor (Tri a XI), and kinase-like pollen allergen of Russian thistle (Sal k 1). Immuno-dot blot analysis showed that recombinant proteins for these rice seed homologs were positive in the IgE-binding, but not necessarily similarity dependent, from some allergic patients.

Cytokeratin Expression at Different Stages in Sweat Gland Development of C57BL/6J Mice.

Int J Low Extrem Wounds

December 2015

First Hospital Affiliated to General Hospital of PLA, Beijing, People's Republic of China General Hospital of PLA, Beijing, People's Republic of China.

Sweat glands exhibit a documented role in epidermal reepithelialization after wounding. However, the regenerative potential of sweat glands has remained underappreciated due to the absence of useful markers for the analysis of determination and differentiation processes in the developing eccrine sweat gland from epithelium. Although the current knowledge of keratin expression in most of the different origins has been described, it remains widely shared and not unified in eccrine sweat glands of C57BL/6J mice that are commonly used as animal models for sweat gland and wound healing studies, both at the molecular and cellular levels.
