Our objective in this study was to determine some indices of the synthesis of nitric oxide during the early periods of diethylnitrosamine-induced hepatocarcinogenesis in mature male rats and to gain insights into their relationship to lipid peroxidation. The basis for the study was the intragastric administration of 10 mg/kg diethylnitrosamine 5 times a week for two months to 28 male rats; 12 additional rats served as untreated controls. During the time-related course of hepatocarcinogenesis, the blood serum level of L-arginine was found to decrease significantly while that of malondialdehyde tended to increase.

Electron microscopy of cardiomyocytes was performed on days 1, 3, and 7 after ligation of the coronary artery in rats previously divided according to liver metabolizing capacities into slowly and rapidly metabolizing animals. In rapidly metabolizing rats cardiomyocyte sarcoplasm contained large number of hyperplastic ribosomes and polysomes at the late stages of experiment, which attested to high activity of protein and RNA synthesis compared to slowly metabolizing rats. In slowly metabolizing animals edema of cardiomyocyte sarcoplasm and mitochondria was usually seen.

Changes in lungs ventilation is mainly studied in the research on the features of respiratory system in ageing process. The condition of alveolar--capillary oxygen diffusion expressing the presence of central acinar lung emphysema is much less investigated. The purpose of the research was to study particularities of lung diffusion ability, which is considered to be one of the important mechanisms determining blood oxygenation in elderly.

We studied morphological changes in the myocardium during experimental myocardial infarction in rats with different resistance to hypoxia. Microscopic examination showed that morphological changes in the ischemic zone and adjacent tissues are different in rats with high and low resistance to acute ischemia. In highly resistant rats, necrotic changes in cardiomyocytes included focal contracture and loosening.

Thioacetamide administration to rats (20 mg/100 g) caused the development of toxic hepatitis which was accompanied by the increase of hepatic ALA-synthase and D-ALA that led to accumulating free porphyrines in the liver. At the same time an increase in activity of heme oxigenase was also found. A decrease in heme synthesis correlated with a decrease in content of cytochrome P450 and b5 in microsomal hepatic fraction of experimental animals.

It was experimentally established that papain from papaya cultivated in Uzbekistan possesses a pronounced proteolytic activity: 0.1, 0.5, and 1% papain solutions decreased the weight of burn crust in vitro and accelerated experimental burn healing in vivo.

In rats with experimental acute pancreatitis, activity of the antioxidant defense enzyme in pancreatic and liver tissues increases, while that in the blood erythrocytes decreases. Preliminary administration of SH-compounds, especially unithiol, favored an increase in the activity of superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidaze.

Noticeable decrease in microsomal protein level MOS terminal component--cytochrome P-450 and MOS median link--cytochrome b5 contents in microsomal fraction implicated in renal pathologic process was established in development of acute unilateral pyelonephritis. These findings reduction expression directly depended on severity and pathologic process development degree. One of the main causes led to reduction in cytochromes P-450 and b5 level and inhibition proteins biosynthesis may be influence of toxic products which are generated in substance exchange involved in prevalence of catabolic processes in injured kidney and intensification in endogenous intoxication syndrome on renal structures.

Morphometry of the bulbar conjunctiva vessels in 50 patients with gout was carried out by television capillaroscopy with videorecording. The findings indicate that microcirculatory disorders start with dilatation of the venules, after which arterioles and capillaries are involved. This results in alteration of the arteriovenular coefficient and of the bloodflow velocity in the capillaries.
