Background: Malnutrition adversely affects prognosis in various medical conditions, but its implications in older adults with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in the ICU are underexplored. The geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) is a novel tool for assessing malnutrition risk. This study investigates the association between GNRI and 90-day mortality in this population.

This study aims to analyze the reversal of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced cardiomyocyte apoptosis via α7nAChR by dexmedetomidine (Dex), so as to provide references for clinical treatment of myocardial disorders in the future. First, the research team divided cardiomyocytes (H9C2) were divided into a control group (normal culture), an LPS group (LPS-induced injury model), and an experimental group (pretreated with Dex before LPS induction). Subsequently, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and cell activity were detected, and the research team found that the LDH content of the control, experimental and LPS groups were in ascending order (P<0.

Background: Carotid atherosclerosis (CAS) is a complication of atherosclerosis (AS). PAN-optosome is an inflammatory programmed cell death pathway event regulated by the PAN-optosome complex. CAS's PAN-optosome-related genes (PORGs) have yet to be studied.

Carotid atherosclerotic plaques are the manifestation of atherosclerosis in the carotid arteries and can significantly increase the incidence of cerebrovascular disease. Macrophages and smooth muscle cells are crucial for their development. To reveal the mechanism of carotid atherosclerotic plaque formation, we performed single-nucleus RNA sequencing of the carotid plaque tissue and identified 11 cell types, and the macrophages were divided into 5 different macrophage subpopulations.

Noncoding RNAs and RNA modifiers are implicated in cancer radiotherapy. Here, we aimed to investigate the role of sperm antigen with calponin homology and coiled-coil domains 1 (SPECC1)-derived circular RNA (circSPECC1; hsa_circ_0000745) in breast cancer (BC) cells under radiation treatment. Based on quantitative real-time PCR, circSPECC1 was highly upregulated in BC patients' tumors and cells, and circSPECC1 expression was further increased with the dosage of radiation in BC cells.

The Progress of Poststroke Seizures.

Neurochem Res

April 2024

Department of Neurology, Liaocheng People's Hospital, Shandong University, No. 27 South Shanda Road, Jinan, Shandong, 250012, PR China.

A stroke is one of the most common fatal diseases of the nervous system, and the number of strokes per year has increased substantially in recent years. Epilepsy is a poststroke complication that greatly affects the prognosis of patients and reduces their quality of survival. Effective avoidance of causative factors can reduce the risk of a poststroke seizure.

Key Laboratory of Endocrine Glucose & Lipids Metabolism and Brain Aging, Ministry of Education; Department of Neurology, Shandong Provincial Hospital Affiliated to Shandong First Medical University, Jinan, Shandong, P.R. China

Background: Few studies have so far explored plaque characteristics on high-resolution magnetic resonance vessel wall imaging (HR-VWI) associated with intraprocedural stent thrombosis (IPST) during angioplasty for intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS). We aimed to investigate the plaque features on HR-VWI associated with IPST during stenting for ICAS.

Methods: This study recruited 77 patients with ICAS who underwent intracranial stenting using the Gateway-Wingspan system, and were performed with enhanced pre- and post-contrast T1-weighted HR-VWI on a 3.

Aim: This study aims to evaluate the association between dietary fatty acid intake and hypertension in children and adolescents.

Methods: This cross-sectional study used data of children and adolescents aged 8-17 years from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2005-2018. Dietary intake of total fat and fatty acid was evaluated via two 24-h dietary recall interviews.

Switching from high-fat diet to normal diet ameliorate BTB integrity and improve fertility potential in obese male mice.

Sci Rep

August 2023

Department of Endocrinology, Shandong Provincial Hospital Affiliated to Shandong First Medical University, Shandong Provincial Hospital, Shandong University, Jinan, 250021, Shandong, China.

Obesity is a prominent risk factor for male infertility, and a high-fat diet is an important cause of obesity. Therefore, diet control can reduce body weight and regulate blood glucose and lipids, but it remains unclear whether it can improve male fertility and its mechanism. This study explores the effects of switching from a high-fat diet (HFD) to a normal diet (ND) on the fertility potential of obese male mice and its related mechanisms.

Dolichyl-diphosphooligosaccharide protein glycosyltransferase (DDOST) plays a pivotal role in the glycosylation of asparagine residues on nascent polypeptides. However, the biological role of DDOST in glioma remains unclear. The mRNA expression of DDOST in glioma was identified using TCGA, CGGA, GEO and Rembrandt datasets.

Granulomatous slack skin (GSS) is an extremely rare subtype of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma accompanied by an abundant number of macrophages and is clinically characterized by the development of pendulous skin folds. However, the characteristics of these macrophages in GSS remain unclear. Here, we conducted a spatial transcriptomic study on one frozen GSS sample and drew transcriptomic maps of GSS for the first time.

Accumulating evidence indicates that microRNAs (miRNAs) have a vital effect on lung adenocarcinoma. However, the contributions and possible mechanisms of miR-181c-5p to lung adenocarcinoma remain largely unclear. Our objective is to clarify the potential mechanism by which miR-181c-5p regulates lung adenocarcinoma progression.

Circ-ABCC1 enhances radioresistance of breast cancer cells via miR-627-5p/ABCC1 axis.

Cell Mol Biol (Noisy-le-grand)

September 2022

Department of Oncology, Shandong Energy Zaozhuang Mining Group Central Hospital, Zaozhuang, 277011, Shandong Province, China.

Adjuvant radiotherapy represents the standard of care for breast cancer (BC) following breast-conserving surgery. Tumor recurrence after radiotherapy, attributed to acquired radioresistance, has been a haunting and intractable problem. Therefore, preventions from tumor recurrence are vital for improving survival.

Background: The best follow-up strategy for cancer survivors after treatment should balance the effectiveness and cost of disease detection while detecting recurrence as early as possible. Due to the low incidence of gastric neuroendocrine carcinoma and mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinoma [G-(MA)NEC], high-level evidence-based follow-up strategies is limited. Currently, there is a lack of consensus among clinical practice guidelines regarding the appropriate follow-up strategies for patients with resectable G-(MA)NEC.

Objective: Carotid artery stenting (CAS) has become an alternative strategy to carotid endarterectomy for carotid artery stenosis. Residual stenosis was an independent risk factor for restenosis, with the latter affecting the long-term outcomes of CAS. This multicenter study aimed to evaluate the echogenicity of plaques and hemodynamic alteration by color duplex ultrasound (CDU) examination and investigate their effects on the residual stenosis after CAS.
