Morinda officinalis (MO) has long been used as a traditional herbal medicine for the treatment of bone fractures and joint diseases in China. Monotropein (Mon) and rubiadin-1-methyl ether (Rub) are major bioactive components in MO. Ample evidence shows that MO and its chemical constituents can prevent osteoporosis induced by estrogen-deficiency and ageing.

is an important coastal and medicinal plant, and is recorded in the List of the Important Wild Plants for Conservation in China and Japan. However, an effective conservation strategy is lacking. In the present study, the genetic diversity and population structure were analyzed using phylogeographical methods based on the and intergenic spacers of the chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) sequences from 157 individuals from 25 sampling sites for and plus the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) of the nuclear ribosomal DNA (nrDNA) sequences of 177 individuals from 27 sampling sites.

Previous studies have shown that toxic metal exposure can have adverse effects on the nervous system of children, but the toxicology of metal co-exposure on neurodevelopment remains to be clarified. Brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) plays an important role in nervous system development, but the possible effects of metal co-exposure on the serum BDNF concentrations of children remain unknown. A total of 561 children living in Taizhou City, China were recruited to participate in our cross-sectional multicenter survey.

Rubiadin-1-methyl ether (RBM) is a natural anthraquinone compound isolated from the root of Morinda officinalis How. In our previous study, RBM was found to have inhibitory effects on the TRAP activity of osteoclasts, which means that RBM may be a candidate for therapy of bone diseases characterized by enhanced bone resorption. However, the further effect of RBM on osteoclasts and the underlying mechanism remain unclear.

Cationic liposomes (CLs) are novel nonviral vectors widely used for delivering drugs or genes. However, applications of CLs are largely hampered by their cytotoxicity, partly because the potential mechanism underlying the cytotoxicity of CLs remains unclear. The aim of the present study was to explore the underlying mechanism of cytotoxicity induced by CLs on HepG2 cells.

Background: Nasal delivery of 20 (R) -ginsenoside Rg3 (Rg3) has a short-lived anti-fatigue effect owing to rapid clearance by nasal cilia. Thus, in order to extend the residence time of Rg3 in the nasal cavity, a new drug delivery system is needed.
Methods: Chitosan microspheres loaded with Rg3 were prepared using a multi-step emulsification method and were characterized in vitro and in vivo.

Aconitine (AC), benzoylaconine (BAC), and aconine (ACN) are three representative alkaloids in Aconitum tubers. Knowing that the drug disposal process in vivo is closely related to the toxicity and efficacy of a drug, it is important to classify the disposal properties of these alkaloids. In this study, the pharmacokinetics of the three alkaloids was investigated.

A rapid ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray ionization quadrupole time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-ESI-Q-TOF/MS) method was developed for qualitative and quantitative determination of constituents in the rhizome of Curculigo orchioides. Qualitative analysis was performed on a Waters ACQUITY UHPLC @ HSS T3 column (1.8 μm 100 × 2.

Candida albicans, the most common fungal pathogen related to colonization and biofilm formation on the surfaces of indwelling medical devices, shows high resistance to the most commonly used antifungal drugs. In this study, an ion-pairing chromatography-porous graphitic carbon column coupled with a time-of-flight mass spectrometry (IP-PGC-TOF/MS) system was developed for targeted and untargeted profiling of metabolites involved in biofilm and planktonic growth of C. albicans.

A subcutaneous exenatide delivery system was developed and characterized in vitro and in vivo. The results clearly showed that the exenatide loaded PLGA microspheres prepared by using a non-aqueous processing medium had low burst release and high drug encapsulation efficiency. Exenatide loaded in the microspheres preserved its bioactivity.

Implantable and poly (d,l-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) microparticles were developed to deliver temozolomide (TM) continuously in interstitial chemotherapy for glioma. The therapeutic effect of temozolomide/PLGA was evaluated in a rat C6 glioma model. C6 cells were implanted orthotopically into 100 rat brains in 5 groups (n=20 each): sham operation group, control group, local delivery of blank PLGA microspheres group, oral TM group, and local delivery of TM/PLGA group.
