Background: The need for pre- or peri-procedural imaging to rule out the presence of left atrial thrombus in patients undergoing catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF) is unclear in the era of uninterrupted direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) regimen. We sought to examine the safety of catheter ablation in appropriately selected patients with paroxysmal AF without performing screening for left atrial thrombus.

Patients And Methods: Consecutive patients planned for radiofrequency AF catheter ablation between January 2016 and June 2020 were enrolled, and prospectively studied.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how using nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF) can enhance risk stratification in Brugada syndrome compared to traditional logistic regression methods.
  • A cohort of 149 patients from Hong Kong presented with Brugada electrocardiographic patterns was analyzed, focusing on spontaneous ventricular tachycardia/ventricular fibrillation as the primary outcome.
  • Results show that incorporating latent variables through NMF increased predictive accuracy significantly, indicated by an improvement in the area under the curve metrics for both the primary cohort and an external validation cohort.

The emergence of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has become a major global public health concern. Although SARS-CoV-2 causes primarily respiratory problems, concurrent cardiac injury cannot be ignored since it may be an independent predictor for adverse outcomes. Cardiac arrhythmias are often observed in patients with COVID-19, especially in severe cases, and more likely contribute to the high risk of adverse outcomes.

Hsa_circ_0057481 promotes laryngeal cancer proliferation and migration by modulating the miR-200c/ZEB1 axis.

Int J Clin Exp Pathol

November 2019

Department of Thyroid and Neck Tumor, Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital, National Clinical Research Center for Cancer Tianjin, China.

As a new type of non-coding RNA, circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been reported to be important regulators of tumor initiation and progression. By using the high-throughput microarray, a recent study demonstrated that the expression of hsa_circ_0057481 is upregulated in human laryngeal cancer. In the present study, we aimed to elucidate the role of hsa_circ_0057481 in laryngeal cancer.

Long noncoding RNA GAS5 impairs the proliferation and invasion of endometrial carcinoma induced by high glucose via targeting miR-222-3p/p27.

Am J Transl Res

April 2019

Department of Diabetic Nephropathy Hemodialysis, The Metabolic Disease Hospital of Tianjin Medical University, Key Laboratory of Hormone and Development (Ministry of Health), Tianjin Key Laboratory of Metabolic Disease Tianjin 300070, China.

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been identified to be critical functional regulator in the human tumors, while the deepgoing mechanism by which lncRNAs modulates the endometrial carcinoma is still elusive. In this work, we found that lncRNA GAS5 was under-expressed in the endometrial carcinoma tissue specimens, especially these samples with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Besides, the aberrant under-expression of GAS5 was correlated with the advanced tumor stage as well as poor prognosis outcome.

Background: Brugada syndrome is an ion channelopathy that predisposes affected subjects to ventricular tachycardia/fibrillation (VT/VF), potentially leading to sudden cardiac death (SCD). T-T intervals, (T-T)/QT ratio and T-T dispersion have been proposed for risk stratification, but their predictive values in Brugada syndrome have been challenged recently.

Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to examine their values in predicting arrhythmic and mortality outcomes in Brugada Syndrome.
