Cysteine Leukotriene Receptor Antagonist-Montelukast-Treatment Improves Experimental Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms in Mice.

Cysteinyl leukotrienes (LTs) and their receptors are involved in the pathogenesis of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs). However, whether CysLT1 receptor antagonists such as montelukast can influence experimental nondissecting AAA remains unclear. Nondissecting AAAs were induced in C57BL/6J mice by transient aortic luminal infusion of porcine pancreatic elastase (PPE).

NRP1 instructs IL-17-producing ILC3s to drive colitis progression.

Group 3 innate lymphoid cells (ILC3s) control tissue homeostasis and orchestrate mucosal inflammation; however, the precise mechanisms governing ILC3 activity are fully understood. Here, we identified the transmembrane protein neuropilin-1 (NRP1) as a positive regulator of interleukin (IL)-17-producing ILC3s in the intestine. NRP1 was markedly upregulated in intestinal mucosal biopsies from patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) compared with healthy controls.

Endovascular Treatment of Mirror Aneurysms in Subarachnoid Hemorrhage Patients: Single Stage or Multiple Stage?

Objective: The study evaluated the effectiveness and safety of single-stage versus multistage endovascular treatment in subarachnoid hemorrhage patients with Mirror Aneurysms.

Materials And Methods: Our research team performed a prospective study, focusing on the radiographic and clinical data of patients diagnosed with subarachnoid hemorrhage, specifically those who presented with Mirror Aneurysms upon admission to our institutions. According to the different endovascular treatment stages, these patients were grouped into the multistage cohort and the single-stage cohort.

The immune mechanisms of acute exacerbations of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

Acute exacerbations of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (AE-IPF) are the leading cause of mortality among patients with IPF. There is still a lack of effective treatments for AE-IPF, resulting in a hospitalization mortality rate as high as 70%-80%. To reveal the complicated mechanism of AE-IPF, more attention has been paid to its disturbed immune environment, as patients with IPF exhibit deficiencies in pathogen defense due to local immune dysregulation.

Traditional Chinese medicine has unique advantages in preventing and treating COVID-19, and Fuzheng Jiedu decoction (FZJDD) was reported to be effective against COVID-19 in clinical trials. To investigate the potential mechanisms and material basis of FZJDD against SARS-CoV-2, we performed SARS-CoV-2 target protein inhibition analyses and a metabolite full spectrum analysis of FZJDD. Interestingly, FZJDD was found to block the binding of SARS-CoV-2 Spike protein with the receptor ACE2 and inhibit the activity of SARS-CoV-2 3CLpro.

Development of a urine-based metabolomics approach for multi-cancer screening and tumor origin prediction.

Background: Cancer remains a leading cause of mortality worldwide. A non-invasive screening solution was required for early diagnosis of cancer. Multi-cancer early detection (MCED) tests have been considered to address the challenge by simultaneously identifying multiple types of cancer within a single test using minimally invasive blood samples.

Advanced atherosclerosis is the pathological basis for acute cardiovascular events, with significant residual risk of recurrent clinical events despite contemporary treatment. The death of foamy macrophages is a main contributor to plaque progression, but the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing demonstrated that massive iron accumulation in advanced atherosclerosis promoted foamy macrophage ferroptosis, particularly in low expression of triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (TREM2) foamy macrophages.

Familial hypercholesterolemia in Chinese children and adolescents: a multicenter study.

Background: Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is an inherited disorder mainly marked by increased low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) concentrations and a heightened risk of early-onset arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). This study seeks to characterize the genetic spectrum and genotype‒phenotype correlations of FH in Chinese pediatric individuals.

Methods: Data were gathered from individuals diagnosed with FH either clinically or genetically at multiple hospitals across mainland China from January 2016 to June 2024.

Purpose: To investigate clinicopathologic characteristics and prognosis in secretory breast carcinoma (SBC) and to determine chemotherapy benefits stratified by different subgroups.

Methods: SBCs and triple-negative invasive ductal carcinoma patients (TN-IDCs) were enrolled from three cancer centers between January 2011 and December 2020. SBCs were further divided into two subgroups: those with triple negativity (TN-SBCs) and those without (non-TN-SBCs).

Spectral CT-based nomogram for evaluation of neoadjuvant chemotherapy response in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

Objectives: To establish a spectral CT-based nomogram for predicting the response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in patients with locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC).

Methods: This retrospective study included 172 patients with ESCC who underwent spectral CT scans before NAC followed by resection. Based on postoperative tumor regression grades (TRG), 34% (58) of patients were responsive (TRG1) and 66% (114) were non-responsive (TRG2-3).

Determining the Optimal Age for Extracranial-Intracranial Bypass Surgery: A Post Hoc Analysis of the CMOSS Randomized Trial.

Background: Previous trials have failed to demonstrate the benefits of extracranial-intracranial (EC-IC) bypass surgery for patients with carotid or middle cerebral artery occlusion. However, little evidence has focused on the effect of age on prognosis. This study aimed to explore whether EC-IC bypass surgery can provide greater benefits than medical therapy alone in specific age groups.

Background: The primary purpose of this study was to demonstrate the preventive effects of imatinib (IMA) on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation in a mouse model of acute lung injury (ALI) and human umbilical vascular endothelial cells.

Methods: LPS stimulation for 24 h induced ALI and cell inflammation. The pathological results of the lungs were evaluated using the wet/dry weight ratio, pulmonary vascular permeability measurements, and myeloperoxidase immunohistochemistry.

Introduction: Heparin-binding protein is an inflammatory factor with predictive value for sepsis and participates in the inflammatory response through antibacterial effects, chemotaxis, and increased vascular permeability. The role of heparin-binding protein in sepsis has been progressively demonstrated, but few studies have been conducted in the context of polytrauma combined with bacterial infections. This study aims to investigate the predictive value of heparin-binding protein for bacterial infections in patients with severe polytrauma.

Successful conversion surgery after comprehensive therapy in a patient with MSI-H but pMMR metastatic gastric mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinoma: a case report and literature review.

Gastric mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinoma (MANEC) is a rare and highly aggressive malignancy characterized by both exocrine and neuroendocrine components. Treatment options for metastatic cases are limited, with typical therapeutic approaches involving a combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy. A 68-year-old male with metastatic gastric MANEC was treated with targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and chemotherapy, including S-1, apatinib, cadonilimab, and paclitaxel.
