This study aimed to investigate the correlation between serum miR-154-5p and urinary albumin to creatinine ratio (UACR) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and the association with biomarkers of inflammation and fibrosis in diabetic kidney disease (DKD). A total of 390 patients with T2DM were divided into three groups: normal albuminuria (UACR < 30 mg/g, n = 136, NA), microalbuminuria (UACR at 30-300 mg/g, n = 132, MA), and clinical albuminuria (UACR > 300 mg/g, n = 122, CA). Circulating miR-154-5p, inflammatory (C-reactive protein (CRP); erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR); and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and fibrotic markers (vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF); transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1); and fibronectin (FN)), and other biochemical indicators were assessed via real-time PCR, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and chemiluminescence assay in patients with T2DM and 138 control subjects (NC).

Objective: To evaluate the therapeutic effect of bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP-2) gene modified tissue engineering bone (GMB) combined with vascularized periosteum in the reconstruction of segmental bone defect.
Methods: Adenovirus carrying BMP-2 gene (Ad-BMP-2) was transfected into the isolated and cultured rabbit bone marrow stromal cells (MSCs). The transfected MSCs were seeded on bovine cancellous bone scaffolds (BCB) to construct gene modified tissue engineering bone (GMB).

To compare the effects between gene therapy and gradual release carrier for bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) in repairing bone defects, bone defects for 15 mm were created.on the bilateral radius in rabbits and treated with four kinds of implantations, ie, composite of transgeneic MSCs and PLA/PCL (Group A), composite of MSCs and gradual release carrier for BMP-2 (Group B), composite of MSCs and PLA/PCL (Group C), and PLA/PCL alone (Group D). After 4, 8, and 12 weeks of the operations, X-ray, histological examination, biomechanics analysis, and bone density measurement were conducted.

In vivo proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1HMRS) can substantially improve the non-invasive categorization of human brain tumors, especially for gliomas. It provides greater information concerning tumor activity and characterization of the tumor tissue than is possible with MRI techniques alone. Moreover, 1HMRS may ultimately prove to be a highly beneficial modality in the post-irradiation care of patients with brain gliomas.

Purpose: To study the expressions and clinical significance of PTEN protein in tongue squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC).
Methods: The expressions of PTEN at protein level was investigated in 74 cases of TSCC and 15 cases of normal peripheral tissues around cancer (as control) by strep avidin-biotin complex (SABC) immunohistochemical technique. Mann-Whitney U-test, Pearson's Chi-square test and Fisher exact test were used to analyze the data.

Background And Study Aims: Intraoperative interstitial brachytherapy has been found to be effective when used during laparotomy to improve local control in patients with locally advanced pancreatic cancer. In this study, we report the results of using endoscopic ultrasound- (EUS-)guided interstitial brachytherapy in patients with advanced pancreatic cancer, with respect to tumor response, clinical response, safety, and complications.
Patients And Methods: Fifteen patients (eight men, seven women; median age 61 years) with unresectable pancreatic adenocarcinoma were enrolled into the study, eight patients with stage III disease and seven patients with stage IV disease.

22 patients with non-enhancing supratentorial gliomas on contrast-enhanced MRI underwent both diffusion- and perfusion-weighted MRI (DWI/PWI) before surgical resection. 14 low-grade gliomas (WHO Grade I and II) and 8 anaplastic gliomas were verified histologically. Both apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values and relative cerebral blood volume (rCBV) ratios were calculated on the solid portion of the tumour, on peritumoural area, as well as on the contralateral normal white matter, respectively.

Rationale And Objectives: Diffusion/perfusion-weighted MRI (DWI/PWI) can provide additional useful information in the diagnosis of patients with brain gliomas in a noninvasive fashion. However, the exact role of these new techniques is still undergoing evaluation. Our hypothesis was that DWI and PWI could be useful for assessment of growth and vascularity of implanted C6 rat gliomas.

Objective: To further explore the pathogenesis of neonatal acute lung injury and neonatal pulmonary hemorrhage by establishing the animal model of neonatal acute lung injury (ALI) and by investigating the changes of platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1 (PECAM-1), tissue type plasminogen activator (t-PA) and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) in ALI.
Methods: Totally 88 neonatal rats which were divided into 8 groups randomly including one normal saline control group and 30 min, 1 h, 2 h, 4 h, 8 h, 16 h and 24 h post injection groups. The changes of lung pathology in newborn rats were observed at different time after LPS was injected intraperitoneally.
