Background: Bioinformatics was used to analyze the skin cutaneous melanoma (SKCM) gene expression profile to provide a theoretical basis for further studying the mechanism underlying metastatic SKCM and the clinical prognosis.

Methods: We downloaded the gene expression profiles of 358 metastatic and 102 primary (nonmetastatic) CM samples from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database as a training dataset and the GSE65904 dataset from the National Center for Biotechnology Information database as a validation dataset. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were screened using the limma package of R3.

Introduction: Osteosarcoma is a high-morbidity bone cancer with an unsatisfactory prognosis. The aim of this study is to develop novel potential prognostic biomarkers and construct a prognostic risk prediction model for recurrence in osteosarcoma.

Methods: By analyzing microarray data, univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed to screen prognostic RNA signatures and to build a prognostic model.

This study aimed to identify prognostic epigenetic biomarkers for colon cancer (CC). Methylation and mRNA expression in CC samples with clinical characteristics that corresponded to those in The Cancer Genome Atlas were analyzed. Differentially methylated genes (DMGs) and differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were screened between matched tumor and nontumor tissues.

Genome regions that do not for code for proteins are generally transcribed into long non-coding RNAs. Growing evidence reveals that lncRNAs, defined as transcripts longer than 200 nucleotides, are commonly deregulated in cervical malignancies. New sequencing technologies have revealed a complete picture of the composition of the human transcriptome.

CpG methylation signature predicts prognosis in breast cancer.

Breast Cancer Res Treat

December 2019

Department of Gastrointestinal and Colorectal Surgery, China-Japan Union Hospital of Jilin University, No.126 Xiantai St, Changchun, Jilin, 130033, China.

Purpose: DNA methylation can be used as prognostic biomarkers in various types of cancers. We aimed to identify a CpG methylation pattern for breast cancer.

Methods: In this study, using the microarray data from the cancer genome atlas (TCGA) and gene expression omnibus (GEO), we profiled DNA methylation between 97 healthy control samples and 786 breast cancer samples in a training cohort (from TCGA, n = 883) to build a gene classifier using a penalized regression model.

Alpha-naphthylthiourea (ANTU), a rodenticide induces lung toxicity. Chrysin a flavonoid possesses antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antihypertensive potential. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of chrysin against ANTU-induced pulmonary edema (PE) and pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) in laboratory rats.

Eyelid conditioning, including delay eyelid conditioning and trace eyelid conditioning, has been used extensively to study neural structures and mechanisms of learning and memory as a form of associative learning. In the present study, microcurrent electrical stimulation was used to stimulate the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) to induce delay eyelid conditioning in guinea pigs. The acquisition rate and relative latency of the conditioned eyelid response (CR) and the startle eyelid response (SR) were analyzed.

Regulatory effect of Bcl-2 in ultraviolet radiation-induced apoptosis of the mouse crystalline lens.

Exp Ther Med

March 2016

Department of Ophthalmology, Eye Hospital of The Second Clinical Hospital of Jilin University, Jilin University, Changchun, Jilin 130051, P.R. China.

The aim of the present study was to analyze the role of Bcl-2 during the process of apoptosis in the mouse crystalline lens. In total, 12 normal mice served as the control group and 12 Bcl-2 knockout (K.O) mice served as the experimental group.

Bioactivity-guided fractionation for an EtOAc-soluble fraction of methanolic extract of Arthraxon hispidus, using primary cell assay with bone marrow-derived mast cells (BMMC), led to an isolation of six new flavones and nine known compounds. The structures of the new compounds were established by one dimensional (1D)- and 2D-NMR spectroscopic data, as luteolin 8-C-β-kerriopyranoside (1), luteolin 8-acetic acid methyl ester (2), 7-methyl-luteolin 8-C-β-(6-deoxyxylo-3-uloside) (3), apigenin 8-C-α-fucopyranoside (4), apigenin 8-C-β-fucopyranoside (5) and luteolin 8-C-β-fucopyranoside (6). All the isolates were evaluated for inhibitory activities on interleukin-6 release in the primary cultures using BMMC.

Bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells (BMSCs) are the common precursors for both osteoblasts and adipocytes. With aging, BMSC osteoblast differentiation decreases whereas BMSC differentiation into adipocytes increases, resulting in increased adipogenesis and bone loss. In the present study, we investigated the effect of asiatic acid (AA) on adipocytic differentiation of BMSCs.

In this study, rat models of Parkinson's disease induced by substantia nigra injection of 6-hydroxy-dopamine were intragastrically administered Zhichan powder daily for 50 days. Reverse transcription PCR results showed that tyrosine hydroxylase mRNA expression in the rat substantia nigra was significantly increased, while monoamine oxidase B mRNA expression was significantly decreased in the Zhichan powder group, compared with the model group. In addition, the levels of striatal dopamine and homovanillic acid, the ratio of dopamine to homovanillic acid, and the activity of blood superoxide dismutase were all higher in the Zhichan powder group than in the model group, but the content of malondialdehyde in blood was lower.

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the anti-inflammatory effects of Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis strain BB12 in stimulated Caco-2 cells and to characterize the factors responsible for these anti-inflammatory effects. Characterization and purification studies indicate that BB12's anti-inflammatory factors might include a 50-kDa proteinaceous compound that is stable under a variety of heat and pH conditions.

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of Lactobacillus acidophilus 4356 on cholesterol metabolism in vivo. Rats were fed a cholesterol-enriched experimental diet with or without L. acidophilus 4356 supplementation at a dose of 10(9) colony-forming units per d.

Elevated blood cholesterol is an important risk factor associated with atherosclerosis and CHD. The search for mediators that fine tune cholesterol homeostasis has recognised probiotics as being potentially beneficial. Here, we present data describing bacterial regulation of Niemann-Pick C1-like 1 (NPC1L1), which, when weakly expressed, results in a marked reduction in intestinal absorption of cholesterol.

Purpose: In order to clarify the vasodilatory mechanism of betaxolol and timolol, we studied the effects of these drugs in isolated rabbit ciliary arteries.

Methods: Rabbit ciliary artery specimens were mounted in a double myograph system, and betaxolol, timolol, or another agent was introduced into the organ chamber. The mechanical response of the arteries was studied using an isometric tension recording method.
