Pure laparoscopic and robot-assisted laparoscopic reconstructive surgery in congenital megaureter: a single institution experience.

To report our experience of pure laparoscopic and robot-assisted laparoscopic reconstructive surgery in congenital megaureter, seven patients (one bilateral) with symptomatic congenital megaureter underwent pure laparoscopic or robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery. The megaureter was exposed at the level of the blood vessel and was isolated to the bladder narrow area. Extreme ureter trim and submucosal tunnel encapsulation or papillary implantations and anti-reflux ureter bladder anastomosis were performed intraperitoneally by pure laparoscopic or robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery.

Role of the embryonic protein SOX2 in cholangiocarcinoma.

Mammalian sterile-20-like kinase 4 (MST4) has been implicated in cell proliferation and differentiation. In a previous study, we found MST4 to be an important candidate gene for metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC); however, the molecular mechanism of the promoting role of MST4 in HCC metastasis is poorly understood. In this study, we show that high expression of MST4 was detected in highly invasive HCC cells and in human HCC specimens with vascular invasion.

[First domestic case of intracranial aneurysm parent artery remodeling hybrid surgery].

Objective: To explore new treatment modalities for complex intracranial aneurysms.

Methods: Under general anesthesia, intracranial aneurysm parent artery remodeling surgery was performed along with repeated immediate intraoperative cerebral angiogram to verify the effect of revascularization and therefore adjust the operation plan accordingly.

Results: Aneurysm was successfully clipped without injuries of vascular branches.

However, it is not known whether nebivolol administration plays a cardioprotective effect against myocardial infarction (MI) injury. Therefore, the present study was designed to clarify the effects of nebivolol on MI injury and to elucidate the underlying mechanism.

Gastroesophageal reflux in chronic cough and cough syncope and the effect of antireflux treatment: case report and literature review.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of antireflux treatment on gastroesophageal reflux (GER)-related cough syncope.

Methods: The method used was a retrospective review of the outcomes of antireflux treatment with proton pump inhibitor (PPI), Stretta radiofrequency (SRF), or laparoscopic fundoplication (LF) of 8 patients with chronic cough and cough syncope that was clinically evaluated to be GER related over a period of 2 to 5 years.

Results: In the 8 selected cases, the typical GER symptoms disappeared in 7 cases and were significantly eased in 1 case.

Early experience in high-resolution MRI for large vessel occlusions.

Background: Large vessel occlusions are an important cause of ischemic stroke. Imaging goals center on identifying the site of occlusion, the size of the ischemic core and the size of the ischemic penumbra. The etiology of the occlusion is typically inferred by history and demographics, or subacutely during investigation for shunt, hypercoagulable state or other causes.

A preliminary report on adjuvant analgesic efficacy of HANS in opioid tolerant patients with cancer pain.

Objective: To observe the adjuvant analgesic efficacy of Han's Acupoint Nerve Stimulator (HANS) in opioid tolerant patients with cancer pain.

Methods: A prospective non-controlled study was conducted. Opioid tolerant patients with cancer pain were enrolled and treated with both routinely analgesics and adjuvant HANS (2/100 Hz for 30 min/d, 5 d on and 2 d off for two weeks).

Diagnosis of recurrent uterine cervical cancer: PET versus PET/CT: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Objective: The aim of this work was to assess and compare the overall value of stand-alone FDG PET and PET/CT in diagnosing recurrent cervical cancer with a meta-analysis.

Methods: All the English published studies which addressed the use of PET whether interpreted with or without the use of CT for the diagnosis of recurrent cervical cancer were collected. Methodological quality of the included studies was evaluated.

Pulmonary immune responses to 2009 pandemic influenza A (H1N1) virus in mice.

Background: Well-characterized mice models will afford a cheaper, easy-handling opportunity for a more comprehensive understanding of 2009 influenza A (H1N1) virus's pathogenesis potential. We aimed to provide a robust description of pulmonary immune responses in the mice infected by the virus.

Methods: BALB/c mice were inoculated intranasally with A/Beijing/501/2009(H1N1) (BJ501) and A/PR/8/34(H1N1) (PR8) viruses and compared for survival rate, viral replication, and kinetics of pulmonary immune responses.

Dysregulation of histone acetyltransferases and deacetylases in cardiovascular diseases.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains a leading cause of mortality worldwide despite advances in its prevention and management. A comprehensive understanding of factors which contribute to CVD is required in order to develop more effective treatment options. Dysregulation of epigenetic posttranscriptional modifications of histones in chromatin is thought to be associated with the pathology of many disease models, including CVD.

Antenatal taurine supplementation increases taurine content in intrauterine growth restricted fetal rat brain tissue.

This study aimed to determine the influence of antenatal taurine supplementation on taurine content in the brains of fetal rats with intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR). Experiments were performed at the Central Laboratory of Bayi Children's Hospital Affiliated to Beijing Military General Hospital in China from January to June 2013. Fifteen pregnant rats were randomly divided into three groups: normal controls, an IUGR group and an IUGR + antenatal taurine supplement group (Taurine group) (n = 5).

Angioplasty for pediatric renovascular hypertension: a 13-year experience.

Purpose: We aimed to evaluate the long-term outcome and efficacy of percutaneous transluminal renal angioplasty (PTRA) for pediatric renal artery stenosis (RAS), which is an important cause of medication-refractory pediatric hypertension.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 22 hypertensive children (age range, 3-17 years) who underwent PTRA from February 2000 to July 2012. Sixteen patients had Takayasu arteritis and six fibromuscular dysplasia.

Optimal conditions of LDR to protect the kidney from diabetes: exposure to 12.5 mGy X-rays for 8 weeks efficiently protects the kidney from diabetes.

Aims: We reported the attenuation of diabetes-induced renal dysfunction by exposure to multiple low-dose radiation (LDR) at 25 mGy every other day by suppressing renal oxidative damage. We here explored the optimal conditions of LDR to protect the kidney from diabetes.

[Clinical study of autologous cytokine induced killer cells combined with chemotherapy for elderly patients with acute myeloid leukemia].

This study was purposed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of autologous cytokine induced killer (CIK) cells combined with chemotherapy in treatment of elderly patients with acute myeloid leukemia. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMNC) were isolated from 5 elderly patients with acute myeloid leukemia, and then augmented by priming with interferon gamma (IFN-γ) followed by IL-2 and monoclonal antibody (mAb) against CD3. The autologous CIK cells thus obtained were infused back to individual patients, 28 days as one cycle.

TECTA-related deafness can be inherited as autosomal-dominant nonsyndromic deafness (designated DFNA) or as the autosomal-recessive version. Objective: Diabetes is a risk factor for dementia and mild cognitive impairment. The aim of this study was to investigate whether some features of resting-state EEG (rsEEG) could be applied as a biomarker to distinguish the subjects with amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) from normal cognitive function in type 2 diabetes.

Management of bleeding gastric varices in patients with sinistral portal hypertension.

Background And Aim: Sinistral portal hypertension (SPH) is a rare cause of upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage. Besides splenectomy, there is no consensus on the role of sclerotherapy and splenic embolization for bleeding gastric varices (GVs). This retrospective study summarizes our experience in managing GV bleeding from SPH in patients with pancreatic diseases.

Treatment of multiple solitary plasmacytomas with cytokine-induced killer cells.

Background Aims: Currently available treatment methods for advanced plasmacytoma include surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunomodulatory agents, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and donor lymphocyte infusion. We report a case of advanced refractory multiple solitary plasmacytomas in a 68-year-old Asian man with multiple bone lesions, in whom autologous cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells were administered in an effort to eliminate residual tumor lesions.

Methods: CIK cells were infused monthly for 21 courses.

The purpose of this study was to explore the clinicopathological features, therapy and prognostic factors of elderly patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). The clinical data including general clinical characteristics, pathological features, chemotherapy selection and treatment response of 30 patients with NHL in our hospital from January 2003 to December 2012 were analyzed retrospectively. The survival was analyzed by using Kaplan-Meier methods, and the prognosis was evaluated by COX regression multivariate analysis model.
