Introduction: Oxidative and antioxidant pathways play essential roles in the development of alcohol-induced brain injury. The Nrf2 pathway is an endogenous antioxidant response pathway, but there has been little research on the role of Nrf2 in alcohol-related diseases. Thus, we examined the effects of alcohol and an Nrf2 agonist (TBHQ) on astrocyte function, mRNA expression, and metabolite content to further explore the protective mechanisms of Nrf2 agonists in astrocytes following alcohol exposure.

Astrocytes are an important regulator of alcohol dependence. Furthermore, the downregulation of Rho-associated coiled coil-containing protein kinase 2 (ROCK2) attenuates alcohol-induced inflammation and oxidative stress in astrocytes. On the basis of these findings, we examined the effects of alcohol and a Rho/RACK kinases inhibitor on astrocyte function and investigated their effects on mRNA expression to further explore the protective mechanisms of a Rho/RACK kinases inhibitor in astrocytes after alcohol exposure.

Alcohol dependence is a chronic, relapsing encephalopathy characterized by compulsive craving for alcohol, loss of control over alcohol use, and the presence of negative emotions and physical discomfort when alcohol is unavailable. Harmful use of alcohol is one of the greatest risk factors for death, illness, and disability. Rho kinase inhibitors have neuroprotective effects.

This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of colistin both alone and in combination with either meropenem or levofloxacin against CRAB clinical isolates. The OXA carbapenemase genes and multilocus sequence typing were detected after 35 CRAB isolates biochemical identification. Then, the minimum inhibitory concentrations, minimum bactericidal concentrations, antibiotic interactions of the test antibiotics, and synergistic effects were determined by the checkerboard method and time-kill assays.

Background: Oral cancer (OC) is the most common malignant tumor in the oral cavity, and is mainly seen in middle-aged and elderly men. At present, OC is mainly treated clinically by surgery or combined with radiotherapy and chemotherapy; but recently, more and more studies have shown that the stress trauma caused by surgery and the side effects of radiotherapy and chemotherapy seriously affect the prognosis of patients.
Aim: To determine the significance of I radioactive seed implantation on growth differentiation factor 11 (GDF11) and programmed death receptor-1 (PD-1) during treatment of OC.

Our study aimed to detect whether 450 nm blue laser can be applied effectively and safely in endosocopic submucosal dissection (ESD) system for surgery in colonic tissue. Semiconductor blue laser has been applied in surgery due to its excellent cutting property, however, whether blue laser can be applied in colonic surgery has not been reported. Porcine colon tissues were vaporized by 450 nm blue semiconductor laser at 10-25 W and at working distances from 0.

Bladder cancer remains a very challenging disease to treat with the high rates of recurrence and progression associated with current therapies. Although the association between bladder cancer pathology and circRNAs remains undetermined, circRNAs signatures may be useful as prognostic and predictive factors and clinical tools for assessing disease state, treatment response and outcome. This study investigates if these circRNAs can be used as biomarkers for bladder cancer diagnosis and predicting treatment response.

Low-power blue laser allows clean cutting with little bleeding and no undesired coagulations in adjacent tissues; however, studies on high-power blue laser soft tissue ablation properties, including vaporization and coagulation, have not been reported yet. The purpose of this study is to evaluate and analyze the ablation efficacy and coagulation properties of bladder epithelium tissues with a 30-W 450-nm wavelength blue laser. Well-designed ex vivo experiments compared blue laser and 532-nm LBO green laser, both with laser power up to 30 W, for porcine bladder tissue vaporization and coagulation at different experimental parameter settings.
