Ectopic pregnancy (EP) is associated with significant morbidity and mortality, but the molecular mechanism of this condition is still unclear. miR-196b, a hot research direction for the past few years, participates in the occurrence of various diseases but whether it plays a regulatory role in EP is still unclear. This research was set to investigate the expression and potential value of miR-196b in EP.

Article Synopsis
  • Several studies show inconsistent results about miR-328-3p levels in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF), leading to the need for further investigation.
  • A meta-analysis of 12 studies revealed that miR-328-3p levels were significantly higher in AF patients compared to controls, indicating a potential association with AF risk.
  • The findings suggest that miR-328-3p could be an important biomarker for diagnosing AF, highlighting its role in understanding the condition better.

LncRNA GAS5 rs145204276 Polymorphism Reduces Renal Cell Carcinoma Susceptibility in Southern Chinese Population.

J Inflamm Res

February 2022

Guangdong Key Laboratory of Age-Related Cardiac and Cerebral Diseases, Affiliated Hospital of Guangdong Medical University, Zhanjiang, 524001, People's Republic of China.

Objective: Recent studies have demonstrated that the long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) GAS5 is closely associated with the onset and progression of several tumor types, including renal cell carcinoma (RCC). This study sought to evaluate the relationship between two functional GAS5 polymorphisms (rs145204276 and rs55829688) and the risk for RCC in the Han Chinese population.

Methods: The rs145204276 and rs55829688 polymorphisms in the GAS5 promoter region were genotyped in 624 RCC patients and 655 age/sex-matched healthy participants.

Article Synopsis
  • Bladder cancer (BCa) progression is linked to the expression of circular RNAs (circRNAs), specifically circSHPRH, which is found to be significantly decreased in BCa tissues compared to normal tissues.
  • Low levels of circSHPRH correlate with higher cancer grades, advanced stages, lymphatic metastasis, and poorer patient prognosis.
  • CircSHPRH is suggested to function by sponging miR-942, which targets the BARX2 gene, ultimately inhibiting the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway and repressing tumor growth and aggression in BCa.

State Key Laboratory of Respiratory Disease, National Clinical Research Center for Respiratory Disease, Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Health, The First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, Guangzhou Medical University, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China.

Obstructive sleep apnea is the most common type of sleep breathing disorder. Therefore, the purpose of our research is to construct and verify an objective and easy-to-use nomogram that can accurately predict a patient's risk of obstructive sleep apnea. In this study, we retrospectively collected the data of patients undergoing polysomnography at the Sleep Medicine Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University.

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by abnormal bone metabolism, with few effective treatments available. Danshensu [3-(3,4-dihydroxy-phenyl) lactic acid) is a bioactive compound from traditional Chinese medicine with a variety of pharmacologic effects. In the present study, we investigated the pharmacologic effect and molecular mechanism of Danshensu in AS.

Background: We have reported that heparin-binding epidermal growth factor (HB-EGF) is increased in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and associated with collagen deposition, but the mechanisms remain unclear. In the present study, we aimed to investigated the inflammatory cytokines secreted by bronchial epithelial cells following exposure to HB-EGF that promoted proliferation and migration of human lung fibroblast.

Methods: HB-EGF-induced inflammatory cytokines were assayed in two airway epithelial cells (primary human bronchial epithelial cells [HBECs] and BEAS-2B cells).

Aim: Immature necrotic teeth are frequent findings in adolescents that may lead to thin root walls and open apexes. The absence of an apical stop becomes a challenge for endodontic treatment because it is difficult or impossible to seal the immature root canal with conventional endodontic techniques. Revascularisation therapy (RET) may be more suitable for the treatment of immature necrotic teeth.

Electronic address:

Sepsis, an inflammation-related clinical syndrome, is characterized by disrupted immune homeostasis accompanied by infection and multiple organ dysfunction as determined by the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA). Substantial evidence has recently suggested that lncRNAs orchestrate various biological processes in diseases, and lncRNAs play special roles in the diagnosis and management of sepsis. To date, very few reviews have provided clear and comprehensive clues to demonstrate the roles of lncRNAs in the pathogenesis of sepsis.
