Soil carbon in the world's tidal marshes.

Tidal marshes are threatened coastal ecosystems known for their capacity to store large amounts of carbon in their water-logged soils. Accurate quantification and mapping of global tidal marshes soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks is of considerable value to conservation efforts. Here, we used training data from 3710 unique locations, landscape-level environmental drivers and a global tidal marsh extent map to produce a global, spatially explicit map of SOC storage in tidal marshes at 30 m resolution.

Sex differences in myocardial infarction care and outcomes: a longitudinal Scottish National Data-Linkage Study.

Aims: We investigate sex disparities in management and outcomes of myocardial infarction (MI) in contemporary practice in Scotland.

Methods And Results: This was a longitudinal cohort study including all MI admissions aged 45-80 years across Scotland between 2010-2016 and 2:1 age, sex, and general practice-matched general population controls. Participants were followed up until the end of 2021.

Capacity and incapacity: An appropriate border for non-consensual interventions?

Those who support decision-making capacity as a criterion for non-consensual interventions for persons with mental disabilities (mental illness, learning disability, neurodivergence, acquired brain injury and dementia) argue that it creates parity between physical and mental health approaches to care, support and treatment. It is also argued that such an approach aligns with European Court of Human Rights direction relating to restrictions of a person with a mental disability's rights under Articles 5 and 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights. Indeed, the presence or absence of decision-making capacity has been adopted as a criterion for non-consensual intervention under mental capacity legislation across all UK jurisdictions.

Routine measurement of cardiometabolic disease risk factors in primary care in England before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic: A population-based cohort study.

Background: This study estimated to what extent the number of measurements of cardiometabolic risk factors (e.g., blood pressure, cholesterol, glycated haemoglobin) were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and whether these have recovered to expected levels.

Clinical Performance of OncoPredict HPV Screening Assay on Self-Collected Vaginal and Urine Specimens Within the VALHUDES Framework.

The introduction of self-sampling in cervical cancer screening has raised the importance of HPV test validation on self-collected samples. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical accuracy of the OncoPredict HPV Screening (SCR) assay on self-collected vaginal and first-void urine (FVU) samples, relative to cervical specimens, using the VALHUDES Framework. FVU and vaginal self-samples followed by a clinician-collected cervical brushing were collected from 500 women referred to colposcopy and tested using OncoPredict HPV SCR assay.

Computerized decision support to optimally funnel patients through the diagnostic pathway for dementia.

Background: The increasing prevalence of dementia and the introduction of disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) highlight the need for efficient diagnostic pathways in memory clinics. We present a data-driven approach to efficiently guide stepwise diagnostic testing for three clinical scenarios: 1) syndrome diagnosis, 2) etiological diagnosis, and 3) eligibility for DMT.

Methods: We used data from two memory clinic cohorts (ADC, PredictND), including 504 patients with dementia (302 Alzheimer's disease, 107 frontotemporal dementia, 35 vascular dementia, 60 dementia with Lewy bodies), 191 patients with mild cognitive impairment, and 188 cognitively normal controls (CN).

A Narrative Review of Softball Pitching Workload and Pitch Counts in Relationship to Injury.

Context: Fastpitch softball is a popular women's sport in the United States, and participation rates are increasing. There is growing concern about the prevalence of overuse injuries in softball pitchers at all competitive levels. Pitching workload in softball may be a modifiable risk factor and will be discussed in this narrative review.

Background: Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) of the knee is a focal idiopathic alteration of subchondral bone and/or its precursor with risk for instability and disruption of adjacent cartilage. Treatment options focused on preventing premature osteoarthritis vary depending on multiple patient and lesion characteristics, including lesion mobility.

Purpose: To differentiate lesion mobility before arthroscopy using a multivariable model that includes patient demographic characteristics and physical examination findings.

There is increasing evidence that commercial determinants impact mental health. Addressing the commercial determinants may therefore be a way of improving population-level mental health. This umbrella review aimed to provide an overview of evidence in this field and identify knowledge gaps.

Public health actors have expressed concerns over the entry of the tobacco industry into the UK e-cigarette market. It is important to be aware of the tobacco industry's involvement and stated aims for e-cigarettes in the UK, given their historical attempts to divert attention from and escape responsibility for the harms caused by combustible cigarettes. The use of e-cigarettes amongst young people in the UK has remained constant, despite the law prohibiting sales to adolescents and claims by manufacturers and others that they are designed solely as a tool to quit smoking.

Centiloid recommendations for clinical context-of-use from the AMYPAD consortium.

Amyloid-PET quantification through the tracer-independent Centiloid (CL) scale has emerged as an essential tool for the accurate measurement of amyloid-β (Aβ) pathology in Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients. The AMYPAD consortium set out to integrate existing literature and recent work from the consortium to provide clinical context-of-use recommendations for the CL scale. Compared to histopathology, visual reads, and cerebrospinal fluid, CL quantification accurately reflects the amount of AD pathology.

Diverse Self-Assembled Molecular Architectures Promoted by C-H···O and C-H···Cl Hydrogen Bonds in a Triad of α-Diketone, α-Ketoimine, and an Imidorhenium Complex: A Unified Analysis Based on XRD, NEDA, SAPT, QTAIM, and IBSI Studies.

X-ray structural elucidation, supramolecular self-assembly, and energetics of existential noncovalent interactions for a triad comprising α-diketone, α-ketoimine, and an imidorhenium complex are highlighted in this report. Molecular packing reveals a self-assembled 2D network stabilized by the C-H···O H-bonds for the α-diketone (benzil), and the first structural report of Brown and Sadanaga stressing on the prevalence of seems to be an oversimplified conjecture. In the α-ketoimine, the imine nitrogen atom undergoes intramolecular N···H interaction to render itself inert toward intermolecular C-H···N interaction and exhibits two types of C-H···O H-bonds in consequence to generate a self-assembled 2D molecular architecture.

Multicentre analysis of severe perioperative adverse events in children undergoing surgery who were infected with SARS-CoV-2: a propensity score-adjusted analysis.

Background: The incidence of severe adverse events in children with SARS-CoV-2 undergoing anaesthesia has not been well established. We examined the relationship between SARS-CoV-2 infection and severe perioperative adverse events in children.

Methods: This multicentre (21 North American institutions), retrospective cohort study included children <18 years old, with American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status (ASA PS) of 1-4 and non-severe SARS-CoV-2, who underwent general anaesthesia between April 1, 2020, and March 31, 2021.

A self-efficacy enhancement alcohol reduction intervention for men on-remand in prison: the APPRAISE feasibility pilot RCT.

Background: As many as 70% of remand prisoners have admitted to being under the influence of alcohol when committing the crime leading to their imprisonment. Providing support and advice regarding alcohol consumption can be effective in some groups of people. There is little evidence regarding this for men on remand in prison.
