A synthesis of new enantiomerically enriched derivatives of (S)-α-aminopropionic acid, containing in the β-position 1,2,3-triazole groups coupled with a o-, m- and p-substituted phenyl residue, was developed based on Cu(I) catalyzed [3 + 2] cycloaddition of azides with alkynes. As the starting materials was used the square-planar Ni(II)complex of the Schiff base of propargylglycine with the chiral auxiliary BPB (Benzylprolylbenzophenone) and 1,4-substituted phenyl azides. The assignment of the (S)-absolute configuration of the α-carbon atom of the amino acid residue of the main diastereomeric complexes of the cycloaddition products was carried out on the basis of positive Cotton effects in the region of 480-580 nm of the circular dichroism spectra.

Data on microbial fouling of various synthetic polymer materials, including those used in space technology, are summarized. It has been established that the dominant groups of microbiota of polymer fouling are the genera of mitosporous fungi Aspergillus, Penicillium, Alternaria, Trichoderma. The enzymatic properties of fungal strains from the collection of microbial cultures of the Microbial Depository Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia were studied.

N-carbamoyl-β-alanine amidohydrolase (CβAA) constitutes one of the most important groups of industrially relevant enzymes used in the production of optically pure amino acids and derivatives. In this study, a CβAA-encoding gene from Rhizobium radiobacter strain MDC 8606 was cloned and overexpressed in Escherichia coli. The purified recombinant enzyme (RrCβAA) showed a specific activity of 14 U·mg using N-carbamoyl-β-alanine as a substrate with an optimum activity at 55 °C and pH 8.

A new family of Cu(II) and Ni(II) salen complexes was synthesized and fully characterized through various physicochemical methods. Their catalytic activity was evaluated in the phase transfer C-alkylation reaction of the Schiff bases of D,L-alanine ester and benzaldehyde derivatives. It was found that the introduction of a chlorine atom into the - and -positions of the phenyl ring of the substrate resulted in an increase in both the chemical yield and the asymmetric induction ( 66-98%).

Tailor-made amino acids are indispensable structural components of modern medicinal chemistry and drug design. Consequently, stereo-controlled preparation of amino acids is the area of high research activity. Over last decade, application of Ni(II) complexes of Schiff bases derived from glycine and chiral tridentate ligands has emerged as a leading methodology for the synthesis of various structural types of amino acids.

Herein, we described the synthesis of two L-phenylalanines α-derivatized with a terminal alkyne moiety whose structures differed by phenyl ring halogen substitution (two o-Cl in 1 vs. one p-Br in 2) and investigated their effect on biological macromolecules and living cells. We explored their interaction with quadruplex DNA (G4 DNA), using tel and c-myc as models, and bovine serum albumin (BSA).

Herein, we present a spectroscopic (CD and UV) and SEM study of a phenylalanine derivative carrying a terminal alkyne moiety and indicated by us CF3IIIPhe, with particular attention to its interaction with Cu(II) cation and some biological macromolecules, as well as a preliminary evaluation of its effect on cancerous cells. CD spectroscopy evidenced the ability of CF3IIIPhe to interact with tel and c-myc, two quadruplex DNA (G4 DNA) models explored in this study. Other CD and UV studies revealed the ability of the unnatural amino acid to form aggregates in aqueous solution, to bind Cu(II) cation, and to interact with bovine serum albumin (BSA).
