Immunological/inflammatory factors are implicated in the development of psychosis. Complement is a key driver of inflammation; however, it remains unknown which factor is better at predicting the onset of psychosis. This study aimed to compare the alteration and predictive performance of inflammation and complement in individuals at clinical high risk (CHR).

The importance of microscopic details in the description of the behavior of polymeric nanostructured systems, such as hairy nanoparticles, has been lately discussed via experimental and theoretical approaches. Here we focus on star polymers, which represent well-defined soft nano-objects. By means of atomistic molecular dynamics simulations, we provide a quantitative study about the effect of chemistry on the penetrability of star polymers in a melt, which cannot be considered by generic coarse-grained models.

Introduction: Family factors, such as parental mediation on Internet use and parent-child relationships, have been shown to play a crucial role in preventing adolescents' internet addiction. Previous studies have shown a change in characteristics of online risk during adolescents' development. However, it is still of great interest whether such differences applied in the relationships among parent-child relationships, different types of parental mediation and adolescents' internet addiction level.

Anthocyanins are a class of antioxidants that scavenge free radicals in cells and play an important role in promoting human health and preventing many diseases. Here, we characterized a maize gene () from the purple colored W22 introgression line, which encodes an anthocyanin 3-O-glucosyltransferase, a key enzyme in the anthocyanin synthesis pathway. Mutation of showed bronze-colored seeds and reduced anthocyanins in seeds aleurone layer, seedlings coleoptile, and stem of mature plants by comparison with purple colored W22 (WT).

Subcortical brain regions play essential roles in the pathology of social anxiety disorder (SAD). While adolescence is the peak period of SAD, the relationships between altered development of the subcortical regions during this period and SAD are still unclear. This study investigated the age-dependent alterations in structural co-variance among subcortical regions and between subcortical and cortical regions, aiming to reflect aberrant coordination during development in the adolescent with SAD.

In recent decades, an emerging concern of widespread antimicrobial resistance has been raised due to the existence of pharmaceutical samples such as antibiotics in an aqueous medium. Herein, antibiotic ceftriaxone (CTX) removal from hospital wastewater employing a hybrid process of electrocoagulation (EC) and adsorption (AD) was investigated. The response surface methodology (RSM) was employed to study the influences of main operating variables, including initial CTX concentration, pH, current density, reaction time, and chitosan dosage, on the removal efficiency of the treatment process.

Evidence of comparing neural network differences between anxiety disorder subtypes is limited, while it is crucial to reveal the pathogenesis of anxiety disorders. The present study aimed to investigate specific and common resting-state functional connectivity (FC) networks in generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder (PD), and healthy controls (HC). We employed the gRAICAR algorithm to decompose the resting-state fMRI into independent components and align the components across 61 subjects (22 GAD, 18 PD and 21 HC).

We propose a methodology for calculating the distribution of the mechanical properties in model atomistic polymer-based nanostructured systems. The use of atomistic simulations is key in unravelling the fundamental mechanical behavior of composite materials. Most simulations involving the mechanical properties of polymer nanocomposites (PNCs) concern their global (average) properties, which are typically extracted by applying macroscopic strain on the boundaries of the simulation box and calculating the total (global) stress by invoking the Virial formalism over all atoms within the simulation box; thus, extracting the pertinent mechanical properties from the corresponding stress-strain relation.

Background: The banana-growing rhizosphere soil ecosystem is very complex and consists of an entangled network of interactions between banana plants, microbes and soil, so identifying key components in banana production is difficult. Most of the previous studies on these interactions ignore the role of the banana plant. At present, there is no research on the the micro-ecological environment of the banana planting growth cycle.

In this work, modified Bi-PbO electrode was fabricated and employed for simultaneous degradation of fenitrothion (FT), trifluralin (TF), and chlorothalonil (CT) from synthetic and pesticide wastewater through the anodic oxidation process. A novel high-performance liquid chromatography method was developed and optimized to identify the pesticides simultaneously. Quadratic models were developed to investigate the effects of main operating parameters and predict the degradation efficiencies of the treatment processes.

The heat-sink effect and thermal damage of conventional thermal ablative technologies can be minimized by irreversible electroporation (IRE), which results in clear ablative boundaries and conservation of blood vessels, facilitating maximal safe surgical resection for glioblastoma. Although much comparative data about the death forms in IRE have been published, the comprehensive genetic regulatory mechanism for apoptosis, among other forms of regulatory cell death (RCD), remains elusive. We investigated the electric field intensity threshold for apoptosis/necrosis (YO-PRO-1/PI co-staining) of the U251 human malignant glioma cell line with stepwise increased uniform field intensity.

Urinary benzene metabolites trans, trans-muconic acid (-MA), and S-phenyl mercapturic acid (S-PMA) are often used as biomarkers of internal exposure to benzene. However, there are few reports on using urinary benzene metabolites to estimate airborne benzene concentrations in individuals exposed to benzene. In this study, -MA, and S-PMA were analyzed by UPLC-MS/MS, and a simple pharmacokinetic model was used to calculate the daily intake (DI) of benzene based on the levels of urinary -MA, and S-PMA in occupational individuals.

The brain is susceptible to perturbations of redox balance, affecting neurogenesis and increasing the risks of psychiatric disorders. Thioredoxin-interacting protein (TXNIP) is an endogenous inhibitor of the thioredoxin antioxidant system. Its deletion or inhibition suggests protection for a brain with ischemic stroke or Alzheimer's disease.

Psychiatric disorders are a class of complex disorders characterized by brain dysfunction with varying degrees of impairment in cognition, emotion, consciousness and behavior, which has become a serious public health issue. The gene encodes the p75 neurotrophin receptor, which regulates neuronal growth, survival and plasticity, and was reported to be associated with depression, schizophrenia and antidepressant efficacy in human patient and animal studies. In this study, we investigated its association with schizophrenia and major depression and its role in the behavioral phenotype of adult mice.
